  • Have an NA or NB Miata that you want the power steering removed from? This video is the complete guide on how to remove power steering from a Mazda MX5 Miata! I go over all the tools you need, tips and techniques, and everything else you'll need to know to remove your power steering belt, pump and pully, and lines from the car. This method of depowering a Miata Power Steering Rack uses the line looping technique, as it doesn't require the rack to be removed from the car. I'll have a followup video to this one that shows how to remove the rack and delete the internal seal, making it a completely depowered rack.

    Loads of peopl have done similar online but what I haven't seen anyone do is show the difference in steering force needed parking with power, looped, seal removed. That would be a good sequence to shoot. (or at least the last two :) )

    Wow, I did not expect this level of detail from such an "amateurish" looking video (I mean no offense). Dare I say this was on par for a ChrisFix video as far as information and detail goes and isn't that all that really matters?.

    Bob Hall was quite cross when Mazda decided to do "cut price" base models without PS in Europe from 1995/6. He objected to this because he said they'd designed and set up the car to have PS . These entry level cars came with steel wheels and wind up windows as the UK spec 1.8i (as opposed to alloys and electric windows on the 1.8iS) and they also reintroduced a 1.6i - with a 90hp lump.
    If I had AC I'd possibly consider removing it, but none of our cars got it - not even as an option. You had to get a "grey import" Eunos if you wanted AC.

    What is the main reason that a lot of people decided to remove the AC and power steering?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  Před 4 lety +2

      A lot of people do it for weight reduction and to clean up their engine bay / clear space. Removing power steering also adds road feel

      For a more visual representation... coast around at low speeds in neutral, like 5 or 10 mph or so, and turn the wheel, you'll watch your RPMs drop or almost stall if going slow enough. It ain't much, but power is power.
