She’s Gone
Love that song!
Sarah was free to go - and she got up and left - *_She's Gone!_*
Me and Mrs Jones is a banger.
She's Gone is an excellent song, quite beautiful and my favorite Hall and Oates.
Say it Ain't So fan.
"One on One" and "I Can't Go For That"
My daughter, Sarah, was born in '76. To this day I get a tear. Love this song.😎👍
IIRC, this song was my introduction to Hall and Oates, and was accompanied by their re-release of "She's Gone." That was followed by "Rich Girl," "Kiss Is On My List," "You Make My Dreams Come True," "Say It Isn't So," "Out of Touch," "Private Eyes."
This is on virtually every "get lucky" playlist ever made.
I consider this to be a perfect song. The vocals, the arrangements, the emotion conveyed. It is flawless.
For your own pleasure, watch the video of Smokey Robinson doing this with Daryl Hall in the Daryl's House broadcast - imagine Smokey's voice doing those 'Sara' parts the way only he can, and give yourself a treat.
I'm one of those old timers who heard this when it first came out. I think this is their best work (if I had to pick). Their hit, "She's Gone" would be another that's up there! It seems like we can just FEEL that this is more than "just another song" to them. Great reaction you two!!
Definitely She's Gone for their next H & O reaction!
Daryl Hall had a 30-year relationship with Sara Allen, and she collaborated with Hall & Oates on writing songs.
These guys were everywhere with their hits❣️ Love their vocals. They have so many great songs! "She's Gone," "I Can't Go For That," and many more.
Soo much Hall & Oates to listen too!!! YEESSSS
At this point you could put on a greatest hits and just react after every song. They were that good.
Plenty more to hear from these guys
Such a beautiful song. Daryl never overused his falsetto. It always hit at just the right time. Great reaction. Take care...
My favorite song by these guys!
Yeah Daryl Hall may be one of the most underrated vocalists ever.
John oats even moreso
Agreed
honestly for me these gentlemen have and still are killing it ! ♥
One on One! Another baby maker...
Ear-gasm. Daryl's soulful voice and John's great musicality at their best. So simple, just asking her to smile because it means so much to him.
"She's Gone"
“Say It Isn’t So” is my favorite song by them.
Daryl Hall and Sara Allen were together for 30 years. John Oates actually introduced them back in Philadelphia when he and John were roommates. Saw her on the Hall and Oates Behind the Music, and she just seems like the sweetest person. She and her late sister Jana Allen both wrote songs with Daryl and John. Janna was only in her thirties when she died of cancer. I think Sara was pretty heartbroken when she and Daryl broke up, but they remained friends. She was on an episode of Live From Daryl's with Wyclef Jean. And she seemed as sweet as ever.
This is one of my top three songs in no particular order. I love this song
Sarah Allan also wrote several songs with Daryl Hall. Many of them have been hits. “I can’t go for that” “private eyes” “Maneater” and “you make my dreams come true“
Thank you so much for this review. They were the ultimate “blue eyed soul”!! Keep digging into their catalog.
They were my go to concert during the 80’s! Have seen them more than any other band! Love them! ❤️❤️
Saw them also.
One of my earliest memories musically as a child. When I was 4, that was when I remember every song when it was out. This was one of those that brings me back to that time. So smooth!!!
Can't go wrong with Hall & Oates! Outstanding catalog!
Thanks for this reaction to a great song. One of my favorites by H&O. Right up there with this one is “Kiss On My List”, “You Make My Dreams”, “Rich Girl” and “She’s Gone”.
You want more soul? You should check out their version of "Me and Mrs. Jones"
@ernestsantana449 I could not agree more. He doesn't just sing, testifies!
Billy Paul's original is fantastic, but I think their version is great too!!
For decades this has been on my "favorites" list. Always hits the spot, and sounds so good.
ONE, if not MY FAVORITE, by Hall & Oates....SO ROMANTIC and SO SMOOOOOOOTH!!! :) Daryl Hall's VOCALS in this are AMAZING - and John Oates' accompaniment is JUST SO PERFECT!!! THANKS, YA'L!!!
This one and Shes Gone are my all time favorites from them.
“Rich Girl”’ “Kiss On My List “, “Private Eyes “, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”, and “Out Of Touch “ are the #1 singles from this duo. “Private Eyes” is my personal favorite.
the smiles are coming! less than a minute in! i would bet my life on it!
A Zep and rush lover ,Let me say I love their album Abandoned Luncheonette ❤❤Simply fantastic…
I Can’t Go for That, with CeeLo Greene, live at Daryl’s House.
This is so very beautiful! Love Hall & Oates, they are so very good. Love your reactions!
Next do "She's Gone" Another great one !
On the radio, in the car, going anywhere. 70s come back.
If you guys wanna see and hear some great stuff from Daryl, the Lead Singer, he had a late night show on in the 2010s called Live From Daryl's House.. He had some of the greatest bands and solo artists on this show and he would sing and play with them with a Live Band! Highly recommend these videos. A lot of the performances are on CZcams!
Y'all should check out you lost that loving feeling cover by them
adult educations is a great ass song that I feel like no one ever requests across any channel
She's Gone, Rich Girl, Cover of You've Lost that Loving Feeling, Private Eyes, You're making My dreams come true and Kiss on My List.
Sara Allen and her sister Janna are credited as co-writers on a few of Hall & Oates hits
There's an amazing live version of their cover of Me and Mrs. Jones (I think from an MTV awards show) that's a must hear!
How wonderfull to notice you both( and younger viewers) get to hear and appreciate the music I love and grew up with❤
They were really underrated yet produced dozens of hits.. Paul Young's hit cover of their tune "Everytime you go away" was written by them. They had some really great tunes.. A rabbit hole worth venturing down for sure.
Underrated? They are the top selling duo in rock history.
THEIR SIGNATURE SONG !!!
My great granddaughter is named Sarri. This is her song, I play it for her when she asks. 💯🔥
Nice reaction , they have another song about Sara called "Las Vegas Turn Around". You guys would love it.
They had
So many hits on the radio.
#11 song for the year 1976 according to the Billboard Hot 100 charts here in the states (#4 peak during its run on the Top 40). Definitely their "breakout hit"
I was born in 75 and grew up with heavy metal and early punk. I still listen to Pantera and White Zombie or Rancid and The Misfits. That said, my guilty pleasure is Hall and Oats. Daryll Hall is a talented dude. They had so many big hits that were unavoidable at the time. They were all over the radio and MTV. You couldnt help but hear them. Now, at 49, I wander back to them between punk songs.😆😆😆
Anything performed Live from Daryl's house is fire. Love this song ❤ Great reaction as usual guys and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
this is one of my favorites songs from hall and oates here.
I mostly listened to hard country and hard rock then, but I did have a Hall and Oates LP. I still like this pop music.
Excellent reaction. GREAT song. "She's Gone" should be next.
Philly soul 😊 smooth like butter ✌️
Highest level musicians.
Great song 🎵
Sam , smile ! Great reaction video . She’s gone is a classic
this is my favorite Hall & Oates song.
Depending on the day either this song or "She's Gone" are my two favorites from America's greatest blue eyed soul duo. Today it's "Sara Smile". Do "She's Gone" next and you'll hear why.
This may have been their first big hit !
She's Gone is one of the best songs ever written. My favorite though is their live version of "Me and Mrs. Jones".
I use this song as my daughter Sara's ring tone.
I met John Oates when he was still racing for Dole.
Really love these guys!!❤❤
Darrell went to Owen J in pottstown
John went to Twin Valley in Morgantown.
Your thumbnail comment--"So much soul, and so smooth, she BETTER smile!" 🤣 You're right, of course, though. This is arguably their most laid-back, old school Philly-soul sounding song, and definitely one of their most-beloved. Any of the song suggestions by the commenters below are keepers, and worthy of your consideration. Hall & Oates just knew how to produce music that captured the public at large.
Hall n oats are at war with eachother each got a restraining order on eachother
No, no. Not exactly. No.
Great song.
Gotta check out H&O's - She's Gone and Out of Touch. Also Daryl Hall's solo hit Dreamtime and the 1986 Parachute Club hit - Love Is Fire on which John Oates sings.
If you liked this, listen to John Denver's "Annie's Song". But these guys had some very big hits.
Nothing smoother than the Philly sound.
She's Gone and Rich Girl
See my name 😊 I was little little when this was popular and I remember hating it because people would always say, "Oh Sarah, you should smile" .. I bothered me alot for no good reason. Now that I'm older, through the years alot of friends have told me when they hear this they think of me ❤❤ So, after all these years I've come to like the song and appreciate the fact that there is something out in the universe that had zero to do with me but reminds some people of me 😊😊😊 .. just kinda cool 😎 😌
Reminded me of Flight of the Conchords songs, which I will now have to check out again.
Daryl Hall has a small role in Flight of the Conchords. Apparently, they were a little H & O obsessed.
Great reaction to a great song! You actually mentioned Boyz ll Men who did a cover of this song "Sarah Smile". I hope you react to their version. I can't wait to see it!
I believe this song was written about a friend of the band ....Hall and Oats an all time favorite...
I agree with Sam, it does have a R&B sound to it. Also try Rich girl.
It's called T.S.O.P, The sound of Philadelphia
After7 did an awesome version of this. 2 of Babyface's brothers were in that group.
Hall and Oates is considered a blue-eyed soul. It's a cool genre of music.
I don't remember if it was this or Rich Girl that first got me into H&O. They are so underrated, so many good choices from them.
This was so popular back then when I was 13 and first starting to date, girls loved this song.
Top shelf
"She's Gone" My favorite ❤
"Sara Smile" is a relaxing 70s soul.
A little too slow for me though.
Still my favorite song by them followed by the version of I Can't Go For That from Live From Daryl's House featuring Cee Lo Green.
❤️
Waitin for more Prince reaction - - but this'll work.
Catch an episode or two of Daryl's House.
Rich Girl !
For some more PHILLY SOUL, please react to the 1971 classic ballad, *"Betcha By Golly, Wow",* by The Stylistics. (Studio version.)
Pretty sure this song came out in 1982, the year I graduated high school.
1975
Daryl is the king of the word stretchers 😏😏😏
Do I can't go for that.
LOL Sam had the stank face going. 😂😂
