Donna Summer and Diana Ross, two of my favorite female artists of the 70's.
An incomparable voice
'The Queen of Disco.' This Song didn't Grow on Me of How Much Awesome this Song is Until a Couple of Years ago. It's One of My absolute Favorites.
🔥🔥
Donna was the truth for real. Everything she did gave me goosebumps. She was so underrated
MacArthur Park is an actual park located in downtown Los Angeles. You may have seen it on television without knowing it. It features a lake lined with palm trees. The "cake in the rain" bit confused me back when too, but apparently it was what the song writer saw in the park the day he wrote this song.
You can never ever go wrong with Donna Summer, live or on record.
Donna is the one and ONLY Disco queen.....Beauty, very beauty and very talented....
i love the 17 minute long version. people had the time back then.
Donna❤
One of my favorites Donna Summer songs. This is the shorter version. I love the longer one she did on VH-1 Live and More special❤❤❤
Gurl, check out her Night of the Proms version of this. Her voice has seasoned. It’s AMAZING!
DONNA DELIVERS ALL THE DISCO DRAMA,....AGAIN. and again. and again. #tensacrosstheboard 🔥
Consistent 🔥
that's my girl, Endless Summer
The gorgeous Donna Summer took her version of this song to #1 in 1978. This is an absolute classic song and another wonderful vocal performance by the legendary Donna! 🔥
🔥🔥🔥
There's better versions.
AMAZING Donna!!!!!! One of the HARDEST songs ever written - 4 timing changes - 3 key changes and those dreaded 1/32 notes!!!!!!!!! What truly set Donna apart from all other female pop singers, besides her incredible voice and beauty was that she could still sing every note the same 40 yrs later!!!!
This is my fav song from her. I was a tween, singing this at the top of my lungs every time I heard it. I was so dramatic with it too. Lol.
Only Donna could pull off taking this Jimmy Webb masterpiece and giving it her signature Queen of Disco vocals, so fortunate to have experienced her latest releases in my teens back in the day.
one of my all time favorites by the Queen...I still have the short and long versions of this masterpiece Donna and Giorgio Moroder were an unbeatable team
When you saw her perform live you would get goosebumbs in places you didn't know you could. Her voice was a primal force of nature and it vibrate through your whole body. It can't be described you had to experience it . I wish Empress that you could have but at least we have videos of the Queen working her magic. She had a lot more than 'disco moves!' She was the real deal and one of the kindest and most humble people ever. Her concerts were lovefests . I met her many times and she was so sweet and so beautiful. The air around her seemed to crackle with her power! Just amazing!
Yes so blessed to see these performances
There`s another great version of this song by Beggars Opera!
Very good in a different style.
Greetings from Germany,Rainer
One word….AMAZING!!! Love anything by this incredibly talented lady! Thank you to Empress and her Patreon!
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
Thank you so much!!
As someone who loves all things sweet, the idea that someone would leave a cake out in the rain harms my soul! Love this song!
I believe the actor Richard Harris sang 'MacArthur Park' originally in the late 60s. The lyrics are imagistic and metaphorical about a lost relationship, the central metaphor being a cake (i.e. relationship) which took a very long time to make but is now disintegrating (i.e. frosting melting) in the rain. It became a classic from that era. Donna, of course, made it into a magnificant disco hit! Richard Harris was a very good British actor who became well known in the U.S. for his role in the 1970s film "A Man Called Horse." It was a fantastic film and story.
This song was written by Jimmy Webb 1968 and famously first song by Richard Harris 1969. Then sung by Donna Summer 1978. Donna put a beautiful spin on it. I like Harris’s version too.
When I was 10 we lived in a duplex. Our neighbor was big into disco (esp Donna Summer) and because of his haircut, we called him the Disco Duck (kids). Every night he'd get off the late shift and we could tell what kind of night he had because he'd play either MacArthur Park or I Feel Love. My mother was pissed but honestly it helped me get over my fear of sleeping alone. Especially when he'd play "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. XD
Woo hoo!!!! LOVE IT!! I was going to say you should listen to the studio version too because, of course, it's fabulous! ;) If you do, try the MacArthur Park Suite. It's about 16 or so mins. long and covers the songs One of a Kind and Heaven Knows :)
nice reaction as usual Empress, gretings from Mexico City!!
Saw her live in 1996, every hit and never never missed a note. I’ve rarely seen a poor concert with vocals like that live. Gaga and Barbra both hit their notes as well. The chick from the Cranberries was phenomenal live too.
it was a popular song, many covers, she put the disco on it
‘Bernice has left her cake out in the rain!’ - Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Our future is disco.
I was at this concert! One if the best she ever did. She always had a full orchestra back then, and also several concerts in the 90s and 2000s. Sounded just like the album. This is an incredible cover of a song that was originally pretty horribly by Richard Harris. It's a masterpiece.
Donna started in musicals, very theatrical
Even though my favorite Donna Summer song changes constantly, this MAY BE my absolute favorite, though I do prefer the longer version that has that amazing bridge that gets cut from all the shorter versions. (I just get all the feels on the "there'll be another song for me, and I will sing it" etc through the end of the bridge with the "after all the loves of my life, you'd still be the one, and I'll ask myself WHY" - it's a long bridge so I understand cutting it for a short performance, but it brings the emotion out of the song for sure.)
If we're REALLY talking, the nearly-18-minute MacArthur Park Suite which also includes One Of A Kind and Heaven Knows would be my top top fave, but I do absolutely LOVE the vocals on this version that you watched, and this is the version I keep in video rotation at the bar I work at in NYC. Short and sweet, but those vocals slay and the gays that come to my bar are always loving her voice here!
18 minutes 😳
You have to listen to the actual song 😍
love me some Donna Summer !! This song is actually a remake !! Question ?? Who the hell bakes a green cake ??
Interesting ‼
😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣the icing was green! Not the cake...
Donna Summer was a Supreme Entertainer !z
Empress be posting too often.
I have a life; you know.
Got a solitaire game going that seems endless
I really like Donna's version of this song ....a male sung the original.
👍 I was a naughty jerk. Bow to empress. Thanks for this.
You are a sweetie
Thanks!
WHY THESE LIVE CLIPS!!!! 😩😩😩😩😩
This are ENORMOUS iconic singles, and the Giorgio Moroder production is part if it.
At least Donna is impecable live
That's why. I requested this because people today don't know what a real live performer who can SING is like anymore with a fully live orchestra. You have to hear
Donna live to know how she sounded live. As good as the record. NOW she can hear the whole 18 minute Suite, but it's too long for a reaction video.
@@lamusiclover2264 And it definetly is an incredible display of her excelence.
Donna was my first idol when i was a little kid, and i adore her to this day.
I guess i prefer reactors to hear recorded versions of classiscs first, and then check out live performances.
Anyway, long live the queen!!
@@eduardoalegriarampante639 Plus I was at this show!
@@lamusiclover2264 I never saw her. I miss her terribly.
@@eduardoalegriarampante639 Me too. Sorry you never got to see her. That's why I love watching live performances
There's a better version Empress!!
