"Heaven Knows" is a song by American singer and songwriter Donna Summer, with guest vocals from Brooklyn Dreams released at the height of her fame during the 1970s disco era. It is adapted from the Live and More album where it is a part of the MacArthur Park Suite. It became a number 4 hit for Summer in the US[1] the week of March 17, 1979, and held there for 3 weeks. The song features singing by the group Brooklyn Dreams with lead vocals by Joe "Bean" Esposito.
On the single version released by Summer (credited as Donna Summer with Brooklyn Dreams), singer Joe "Bean" Esposito sings second lead to Summer, while Summer and the group provide backing vocals. However, on the version that appears on Brooklyn Dreams's 1979 album, Sleepless Nights, it is Esposito who sings the lead vocal with Summer singing second lead, with Summer and the group provide backing vocals. On the group's album, this version is credited as Brooklyn Dreams with Donna Summer.
A 12" single version, at 6:45, was released, the first verse sung by Summer solo, the remainder with Summer and Esposito

This song is still fire. I believe the male vocalist is her husband. The man she was with until her death. I’m beginning to remember how her songs made me feel. She was a gift to music. Also somehow she was Kin to Bobby Brown

Great song! It was a No. 4 pop hit in 1978. Donna Summer's second husband, Bruce Sudano, is a member of the band Brooklyn Dreams, who is co-credited on this song. (The male singer you hear backing Donna up is BD lead singer Joe Esposito.) Bruce Sudano is a singer-songwriter-bass player-keyboardist, and he and Donna had two daughters together: Brooklyn and Amanda. Bruce is also the step-father of Donna's daughter Mimi from her first marriage. Amanda Sudano and her husband, Abner Ramirez, make up the folk-rock duo Johnnyswim. Bruce Sudano and Donna Summer co-wrote the song "Starting Over Again" (inspired by the divorce of his parents), which Dolly Parton had a No. 1 country hit with. Donna also recorded the song.

Empress in order to get an even greater appreciation for this song you must, at your leisure, listen to MacArthur Park Suite. It starts with MacArthur Park then segways into one-of-a-kind and then segways into heaven knows and then segways back to MacArthur Park. A complete and ultimate MASTERPIECE. 👏🏽🔥👏🏽🔥👏🏽🔥👏🏽

I have not checked if you've reacted to it yet...if you haven't, but sure to use the album version and not the 12"...they are just about the same length, but the album version is original, with the original mix of "Heaven Knows" that fits best within the piece.
This is the version you want:

Next, possibly? "Thinkin' 'Bout My Baby". It's a slow R&B jazzy song. Let's slow it down a little because Donna could bring a ballad as much as a dance groove.

Thank you as always for your great appreciation of Donna. Growing in the 70's we were so blessed to have song after song after song from Donna, her albums were such masterpieces that truly took all of us on a journey. And let's not forget Donna had number one singles until right before she died. Yes she was the queen of disco, but she continued to put out amazing work until 2012.

i was a kid in Middle School when Donna's Last Dance came out and I've loved her ever since!! By the way, if you weren't aware of it, Empress, Donna may have had a humongous hit with MacArthur Park but DIana Ross and The Supremes had a really cool version of that song in the late 60s beffore Donna released it as a disco song in the 70s.. You would also like Donna's hit "This Time I Know It's For Real" from the mid 80s. It was dance but not disco. It fit the Club Scene in the mid 80s perfectly.. Donna was not just a Disco Queen, she was a well rounded Song Writer and Singer who started out as an actress in the Theater Scene..

The guy singer is from the band named Brooklyn Dreams, and they actually had a hit with a song called "Music, Harmony, & Rhythm" I would definitely say give that one a listen

No better way to start a brand new year than with an Empress reaction to another of Donna's 🔥classics. You should have thrown up 10s as soon as you heard those opening strings. 😛 This is one of the rare times when I feel the 4-minute album version bests the extended mix since it becomes just a bit repetitive towards the end, but perfectly suitable for the disco dance floor. The group Brooklyn Dreams (male vocals) is credited on the 45's label as "Donna Summer with Brooklyn Dreams".
