The word "Imam"(امام) and its plural (ائمه)are used a total of twelve times in the Qur'an, seven times in the singular form and five times in the plural form.

I heavily researched a cult that had the corporate board depose who they treated as a prophet with a vote.
Even a Silent Ones vote can't decide who is spiritually gifted or who is going to be the next Modern Prophet.
Prophets had no authority to decide right and wrong, but their favorites within those principles and God Consciousness were part of their personality.
Much higher than the standard idea of a prophet were those who were divinely called to continue the direct interpretation and living of what came to Prophet Muhammad,

In *2:124 of Quran,* does translation mean Allah appoints?

Yes. Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) explicitly says 'I will make you'

Plus, ALLAH says "my alliance doesn't involve the unjust". Imamate is a pact between ALLAH and his Imam. Are humans the ones to choose the person ALLAH seals a pact with, or is it ALLAH who chooses whoever HE wants ?

Can i just get one Sunni source that says Imamate is appointed by Allah?

The Quran itself says Imamate is appointed by Allah. Allah made Prophet Ibrahim an Imam in the Quran and said that this covenant will not extend to the wrongdoers in his descendants

@@mxhsvn_b7866 Correct and The prophets progeny arent wrongdoers neither, (33:33). And Allah also made a convenant with the children of banu israel and appointed twelve leaders from amongst them, (5:12) and convenant means Imamate. Also there are many narrations says that the prophet said i am leaving amongst you two successors, quran and ahlulbayt (musnad ahmed for an example v35)

I agree because there is proof from the Qur'an that it is Allah that appoints leaders.
    I don't like Hadith!
    Yuk!
It's left a bad taste in my mouth, even though some Hadith get supported by the Qur'an.
Being a now ardent Qur'an alone advocate, I will put forth the case for divinely appointed leaders using only the Qur'an:
    * “O David: We have appointed thee a successor in the earth; so judge thou between men with justice;1 and follow thou not vain desire lest it cause thee to stray from the path of God.” Those who stray from the path of God will have a severe punishment because they forgot the Day of Reckoning. "
    - Qur'an 38:26
    * "˹Remember˺ when Abraham was tested by his Lord with ˹certain˺ commandments, which he fulfilled. Allah said, “I will certainly make you a leader (role model) for the people.” Abraham asked, “What about my offspring?” Allah replied, “My covenant is not extended to the wrongdoers.”
    - Qur'an 2:124
But the question is, how do we determine whom God has chosen?
Enough and more charlatans will come forward and say God told me to be king.
    Then, what happens?
The people at some point have to give their endorsement or disapproval, isn't it?
    Baiyyah oath of allegiance.
What if many step forward saying God told me to be king, president or caliph?
Don't we go full circle back to democratically elected leaders by choosing from the candidates who come forward saying vote for me?
Whoever gets elected is then by virtue of it coming to pass, therefore elected by God, correct?
This needs to be clarified. Because if this is the case, then Abu Bakr was rightfully appointed by God, simply because it happened.
    Sunni - 1 point
    Shia'a - 0 point
Never mind who's right and who's wrong. It's about what's right and wrong.
The leader comes from the people. Therefore shitty people get shitty leaders and good people get good leaders.
This is very fair dinkum, because the Qur'an supports it.
    Leaders of good people:
    * "But it was Our Will to favour those who were oppressed in the land, making them models ˹of faith˺ as well as successors."
    - Qur'an 28:5
    * "We raised from among them leaders, guiding by Our command, when they patiently endured and firmly believed in Our signs."
    - Qur'an 32:24
    * "We ˹also˺ made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and inspired them to do good deeds, establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. And they were devoted to Our worship."
    - Qur'an 21:73
    Leaders of bad people:
    * "We made them leaders inviting ˹others˺ to the Fire. And on the Day of Judgment they will not be helped."
    - Qur'an 28:41
And in the very likely event of disputes, the Qur'an has the answer once again:
    * "And their Prophet said to them: “Indeed Allah has sent forth Saul (Talut) as your king.”269 They said: “By what right shall he rule over us when we are more worthy than he to dominion, for he is not very wealthy?” He said: “Allah has chosen him over you and has endowed him abundantly with both intellectual and physical capacities. Allah indeed has the power to bestow dominion upon whomsoever He wills. Allah is All-Resourceful, All- Knowing.” (2:248) And their Prophet said to them: “The Sign of his dominion is that in his reign the Ark, wherein is inner peace for you, will be brought back to you, and the sacred relics left behind by the house of Moses and the house of Aaron borne by angels.270 Truly in that is a Sign for you, if indeed you are people of faith.”
    - Qur'an 2:247

      Selam Aleykum
The leader doesnt come fromthe people as you mentioned from the Quran:
      "
      Leaders of good people:
      * "But it was Our Will to favour those who were oppressed in the land, making them models ˹of faith˺ as well as successors."
      - Qur'an 28:5
      * "We raised from among them leaders, guiding by Our command, when they patiently endured and firmly believed in Our signs."
      - Qur'an 32:24
      * "We ˹also˺ made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and inspired them to do good deeds, establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. And they were devoted to Our worship."
      "
When you pay close attention than you see that Allah swt states "guiding by Our command". Guided by Allahs command are of course the prophets sent by Allah. In Quran 28:5 you also see that the prophets get sent to people oppressed and it has to be a prophet because first of all it says "making them models ˹of faith˺ as well as successors." and second there were 124.000 prophets of god so its most likely these were meant. As for the leaders of bad people it doesnt state that they are commanded by god or models of faith or anything related to prophets.
As for the statement: "What if many step forward saying God told me to be king, president or caliph?
Don't we go full circle back to democratically elected leaders by choosing from the candidates who come forward saying vote for me?
Whoever gets elected is then by virtue of it coming to pass, therefore elected by God, correct? "
Those people dont have anything to show that they are actually sent or guided from God. Also just because something happens, that doesnt mean that it is right in the laws of Allah. When Allah lets me drink Alcohol than this isnt what the laws of God are just because i was able to drink it. So therefore we only believe in divenly appointed successors like in for example Ghadir Khumm, where Rasulullah (sawa) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) as his rightful successor through Allah swt.
I hope i didnt misunderstand you and you get the points which i made.

      Wa alaikum salaam.
I understand what you're saying, thank you.
What I meant by leaders coming from the people can be qualified by the Qur'an ayat in which it says Allah doesn't change the situation of a people until they rectify themselves (Qur'an 13;11) So the leader is from among those people. Not from another land or community.
A very good example in today's era would be the first Ayatollah of Iran 🇮🇷
He was a rightly guided citizen of the community. The people supported him in his effort to bring about the necessary changes/rectification in Iran.
Please correct me if I am wrong. I am not saying he was flawless, nor am I elevating him to that of a prophet or messenger. Just taking him as a leader of people that were deserving of his leadership.
In contrast, look at USA and Biden! Qawm Lut people got a leader from the same qawm Lut garbage people to suit them. Same with the rest of the world.
As regards a leader for the entire ummah, please pardon me, but we don't see any reference for such a thing in the Qur'an. All the leaders/prophets/messengers were regional, including Muhammed, although the scripture he was given is international for the whole world. But he never led the whole world, neither did king Solomon.
It appears to me, the whole concept of international caliph for the whole ummah seems to be a bida'aa of the Sunnis namely started by Mu'awiya and those dynasties after him.
Please correct me if my understanding is erroneous. I am searching for the truth from the Qur'an.
