play Bridget if you enjoy being the most mobile character in the game, hitting like a kitten, rather short combos and losing half your health bar if you whiff one of your big buttons because you are so light. I main Bridget and am trying to learn A.B.A, I think I'm a masochist.

I like the sprite work more than their 3D stuff. It looks more fine to me. They look too bulky at times in 3d, such as Zato and Venom.

Having played xrd and wanting to try the rollback, I picked this up. I'm trying justice atm simply because I like her theme. Since you described order sol as a kof character, I might check him out too.
This video really helped me pick who to play, Erron black was my favorite MKX character because of his stand off and I didn't know about Johnny's mist finer before watching this.

Been playing a ton of baiken online, couple of things people who are interested in the char might want to know:
1. Tatami is super good, like the video says lol
2. Yousansen is an unreactable overhead if you tk it off of any of her jump cancelable normals
3. She has a ton of jump cancelable normals, notably including her huge sweep.
4. Her dust counter is her best one, but costs meter. It allows you to seal movement options and buttons. You can do things like seal their jumping and their dust button, forcing them to hold your unreactable mix-ups while being unable to burst.
You can also seal special moves with those buttons so for characters like Sol who gets a lot off of his K button like his Wild Throw command grab, big damage Bandit conversions, and his go to anti-air, you could greatly save Baiken's frail health and feel completely safe to block and Guard cancel.

Small thing, but Jam DOES have an EX special in 236S~D (EX Puffball) which is actually godlike with 11(!) strike invincible frames, wallstick on counter-hit for corner loops, is *plus on block*, can be combo'd into with counter-hit c.S on reaction (!!! important because the high-execution, high-reward wakeup option for Jam is parry > c.S for a guaranteed counter-hit and stagger if your opponent's meaty is a big move - allowing EX Puffball follow-ups or card summon, and insane corner carry), and is cancelable into any special move - most carded kicks combo from EX puffball, depending on spacing and some characters.
It's actually a core move in her arsenal - not only an excellent approach move, it's core in her high-low mixup game - 2D is special and jump cancelable, after conditioning to block 2D you can mix-up with IAD/Gekirin pressure resets from overhead or command-dash follow-ups - all of these can be beaten by mashing a low-profile fast normal or dp after 2D and then fuzzy guarding - EXCEPT EX Puffball, which is strike invincible and will lead to huge damage on the counter-hit. Teaching people to respect EX Puffball is core to unlocking Jam's suffocating pressure. You see this move spammed ALL the time - it's an amazing move.

Testament and Zappa could be added to newers games I think, obviously they would tone down their busted stuff (like the did for most other characters).

This game looks amazing. Is the multiplayer alive and well? If so im buying it.
I play it every day and can consistently find near-perfect matches online. I know for a fact that it's very alive in both the US and Japan.
Some fighting games aren't so lucky, and you need to ask for matches in a Discord server, but this game isn't there yet, despite its old age.

Toward the bottom of the move list, you'll see a few extra special moves in a different color that use the Dust button instead of one of the regular buttons. Those are "Force Break" attacks, and are stronger special moves that consume 25% Tension. Most of them are just powered up versions of regular special moves, so they can seem like "EX Specials" sometimes, but some of them are just completely new moves.
You can learn all about that and everything else as far as universal mechanics from my other videos.

You attack by pressing buttons, so "Buttons" is just a funny way of saying "attacks". So big buttons means a character has attacks that cover a large portion of the screen.
Rollback netcode is a complicated topic, but all you really need to know is that now the game is fun to play online. Before, it was always laggy like crazy and you could only play people that were near your location, but they've fixed that, so now you can play anybody in the world, assuming you both have good internet in general.
Elaborating on the rollback netcode question:
It takes time to send data over the Internet. The further the distance, the lower it takes.
For a genre as fast as fighting games, playing catch-up is going to result in a bad time - ever had those "I dodged that! Why am I dead!?" moments in a shooter? Now imagine that in a game where you're making decisions and reacting in fractions of a second. Bad idea.
The most common solution has been to artificially delay actions to visually line them up on both sides; this is known as delay-based netcode. It's fine for closer distances (ie within the same nation), but it feels notoriously sluggish over greater ranges, is very sensitive to any instabilities (which will freeze the game up), and has the habit of making netplay a series of predictions, rather than reactions like offline play. Most fighting games before the latest generation do this, and many still do like Smash Ultimate and GG Revelator Xrd.
Rollback netcode is the catch-up system I mentioned before, each player's screen skipping ahead or "rolling back" a few frames in constant little catch-ups with each other. When mixed with a little delay delay, this reduces the downsides of both and does a better job of making netplay feel stable and snappy. This is what GG AC+R is getting; other examples include Fantasy Strike, Killer Instinct 2013 and Mortal Kombat 11.
Code Mystics and various fighting game documentary channels do deeper delves into the technical aspects and the effect on the communities involved.

"baiken's game is not that good" i dunno, man, free guard cancels are broken as hell. her buttons are awkward to work with, but all she really needs to do is sit there blocking until you need to reset pressure, guard cancel, and then you're pretty much where she wants you
I made this video before I'd played a single online match. And now I have 3000 games. So yeah, I don't know why this is my most popular video. It's pretty bad. I guess it was the new patch hype.
ahh. i started getting into guilty gear as a result of strive's release, but i couldn't get it to run well on my computer so a friend told me to get +r, i think the first videos i saw were this and a clip of baiken being just not fun to play against lol. most of the information isn't too bad though, tbh, it was just a bit to early to make judgement calls i guess

Can someone explain to me what the phrase "playing Guilty Gear" means? I've seen a bunch of people throwing it around online & never really cared to ask until now.
Well what does it mean to play a fighting game?
I think the answer you're looking for can be explained like this. A character is a part of a fighting game is apart of fighting games. There are certain things that are true at differing levels of that hierarchy. For example, "hold back to block" is a fundamental truth for most fighting games. However, "Dudley's EX Short Swing Blow is -2 on block" is only applicable to one particular game, Street Fighter IV, and in fact is specific to one character in that game, Dudley.
So when learning to play a fighting game, you can learn different things about the game, but there's value in knowing which tier in the hierarchy that knowledge falls. Learning something that is unique to your character only matters when you play that character, whereas learning something that applies to every matchup in the game can help you in all matchups in that game, whereas learning something that applies to every or most fighting games will help you in all games where that knowledge applies.
When I say a player is "not playing Guilty Gear" I mean he is heavily relying on strategies that only apply to his character, and will completely fail him if he tries to use those strategies while playing a different character. If a particular character is "not a very Guilty Gear character" that means that the character is very good at utilizing things that other characters tend to not have. Ky is kind of good at a lot of things, but not especially oppressive in one area or another, and doesn't really have anything unique to him that other character's can't do. He's just built and balanced around doing things like basic movement, space control, hit confirms, and strike/throw mixups. All characters can DO those things, but Ky's entire gameplan revolves around it. Because all characters CAN do those things, you can say that Ky is a "Guilty Gear" character, since the things you learn while playing Ky will also apply as you learn more complex characters that break the rules in some way.

Although this also brings up the distinction between "Fighting Games," "Guilty Gear," "Guilty Gear Strive," and "Strive Ramlethal." While most Guilty Gear games are similar, they're each different, in one way or another.

Everything in this world is difficult to at least one person or another. Whether a game is difficult or not depends on what you compare it to, and is the player's opinion. I'll list off a few comparisons here, but the easiest way for you to know the answer to your question is to buy the game on steam (for like $2.50) and play it.
Compared to Street Fighter V? Every game is difficult, including Guilty Gear.
Compared to Street Fighter IV? It's a different kind of difficulty. There aren't many link combos in Guilty Gear like there are in Street Fighter games.
Compared to The King of Fighters XIII? It's very similar, although some characters are much harder (I-No).
Compared to Tekken 7? Tekken requires more knowledge than Guilty Gear to be good.
Compared to Smash Bros. Melee? Guilty Gear is easier to execute but requires more adaptation based on the situation.

As far as those games go, the answer is yes, Guilty Gear is more difficult. But, more than anything, it's just very, very different and free-form as far as how you attack.

I also have videos on Slayer, Anji, and ABA. I actually have two videos on ABA, and a third one in the works.
Who is a good beginner character depends on what you mean. Kliff is an example of a character that beginner players can learn quickly and win with easily, but I don't think he helps you learn the full game very well, so I wouldn't recommend him for beginners.
My actual recommendation is to play whoever looks the coolest to you. Maybe watch some high level Japanese footage of the character to see how they look. Pick a few, and try them out for a day, and, from those, pick your favorite. Every character in Guilty Gear is drastically different.
If you really don't care who you play, and you just want to learn the game as best as possible, then at least pick a particular playstyle and focus on those characters (a lot of characters have multiple categories):
Rushdown (non-stop attacking):
Order-Sol, ABA, Jam, Baiken, Zappa, Johnny, Ky, Venom
Mixups (highs/lows/throws/crossups):
Milia, Testament, I-No, Anji, Chipp, Eddie, Venom, Potemkin
Grappler (throws/throws/throws/throws):
Potemkin, Sol-Badguy
Mid-Range (big buttons, space-control):
Kliff, May, Faust, Anji, Dizzy, Robo-Ky, Venom, Baiken, Bridget
Long-Range (stay as far away as possible):
Axl, Justice, Venom, Testament

How do I enable +R on 360
@@Moqlnkn I know it's in the settings but it doesn't let me change it. I have the pc version and the ps3 version as well and it let's me change it but not the 360 version. Apparently there's a title update called v-up catalog 1 that let's me upgrade to +R but I can't find it.

@@michaeldot3s544 Based on interviews with Daisuke himself, Bridget would have identified as a male in the past, then would have identified as a female in the future. It's pretty ambiguous as to when the change happened. This version of the game is decades before that interview happened.
Also it's a fictional character. Bridget doesn't actually have feelings or identities. It's not a question of reality, but a question of the writers' internal canons, of which there may even be contradictions.
One fact about the canon is obvious, though: Bridget has a penis.
@@Moqlnkn Trans people exist irl so its not like its an unfound idea that makes no logical sense, also its not either confirmed she has a penis or not, the lore is set in a world of magic and people rose from the dead and can regrow limb's whos to say that a girl cant lose an appendage without surgery? I will say it was a good marketing move for them to do it in strive, after all it is a business we're talking about. But at the same time it is canon so it seems ignorant in my opinion to ignore that fact, though in plus R call her a dude cause its obviously canon she was during that time.
