  • I have recently got my hands on this MK7 Rhodes suitcase piano. I thought it would make an interesting series of videos looking at this piano and getting it looking and playing as it should be.
The first time I heard about this piano was in the rules of a forum stating not to mention this piano. Googling around at the time, there was almost no information about this piano at all. It is also interesting that some specialist websites do not mention this piano at all in the history of the electric piano even now.
The odd forum post I did find about this piano, seemed to be more speculation than fact or first hand experience. My goal here is to shine some light on this as a product and help reduce any speculation, maybe it will help other owners to get the most of the piano.
In this part I have a brief look at the overall piano and admire how the blocky fender influenced piano has transformed into this glossy curvy machine. My first impressions are this is not a cheap case, there would be lots of iterations required to get the mould tools right. But looks wise - I really like it, I will happily argue its the best looking electric piano ever made.

Dean, I certainly am envious of your E.P collection, I quite like the out-there design of the MK7!

Wow, thanks! Though I am thinking it is getting out of control!

That's an amazing find. I never even knew that these existed. I first checked the date to make sure that it wasn't an April 1st video. I can't wait to hear how this plays and sounds. If I could pick one person in the world who would best restore and take care of a rare Rhodes like this, you're the one. Glad that it wound up in your hands.

Thank you! I don't think this will require a huge amount of work, but lets see.
There are some interesting features to this piano, cant wait to share more :-).

I love it. I've encountered almost every variation of the Rhodes piano, for better or for worse, but not an Mk7 yet. This should be a fun learning process. If its like every other rhodes generation, it won't take too long to get it singing again.

I think you are right, it does seem similar to earlier pianos, though there are some nice features, you can see that were carried over to the mk8.

Nice model you have of the mk7: boughtthe first one being imported to sweden whenit was released. Its a really nice rhodes, and I agree. Its a beauty! I did a few changes to hammertips after discussion with Dan Goldman and Brandstetter which made it sound great. Made a couple of videos and used it mostly at rehearsals due to it being heavier tha bringing a nord stage. Actually, last time I used a rhodes live was 11 years ago, then I brought my mk1. This inspires to bring out this beauty out of the garage.

Dean- wow man where did you find this? I know every last detail about these pianos so can help you get it up to speed. We also have the specific parts to fix it up but please don’t attempt to do it without talking to me first… for reasons I will explain- and don’t use any other 3rd party parts for the mechanics- there are some important points specific to these which I can fill you in about and help make the restore go super smooth. Gimme a shout! PS- I own 2!

Hi Dan, I have a MK7 with a fried jack board. Can you help me? I’m looking for the schematics to get it going. Thank you

In the MK8 video that Dr. Mix did, one of the employees said the interior workings of the MK7 and MK8 are the same. So no doubt you've got yourself a bargain!

There does seem to be a lot of similarities between the two pianos. Hopefully this wont take too much to get working like a mk8 - I am sure itll be soon.

I struggle to decide between the MK1 and MK5 lol. Although if we count the MK8 I do think that is probably the most aesthetically appealing
