oboistas1 Listen if you bring it up the ESRB will take notice and ban MKX. Pls don't remind them of the violence in the series, especially in MK vs DC universe. I'am 17 yrs old and I still find the fatalities (including Kano's) to be quite gruesome. The way he rolls on top of you, hyper-extending every vertebrae to the point at which your lungs exhale and you scream even though no blood comes out? that is nightmare fuel bro. I shudder just thinking of it.

I still don't get why some people claim MK2 and MK3 are better than MK9. This game is a direct upgrade to the other ones.
Maybe not mk2 but UMK3 is so godlike when played at a high level...
+XxWOLFRxX but UMK3 is far more broken than MK9. I don't remember how it was at launch, but now MK9 has been patched a lot. In UMK3, several characters have infinites, especially on the SNES version with Rain and Noob Saibot, both of whom are top contenders for most broken. A good player can take your entire life bar after one of Noob's "fireball", the skull thing that makes you unable to block or attack. 1,1,3,2, d,u, jab if you want, then df3 puts them in the skull trap. All you have to do is know the timing for the skulls disappearing and throw a teleport slam in SOMEWHAT around that time to juggle them into the air and immediately toss another trap. It's easy to do this by just baiting jumps, which they must do a lot to avoid getting combo'd during the trap, and the tele-slam homes in on them. Also, you have plenty of time to hit that 11,3,2 combo and pop them up again. You can just zone with f,f,2 and even though it's a long animation, it's hard to punish full-screen without a teleporting character, and as long as you can bait and predict you can deal with them too. Maybe Jade would be a good counter, and probably Human Smoke, who along with Kabal, is in all versions and is OPAF. UMK3 has a big roster and a lot of those characters have great qualities in terms of playstyle, but some are just broken. Rain is just like Noob in some respects, and Human Smoke is basically Scorpion made faster which opens up new combo potential. You probably know most of this but my point is basically that UMK3 is really fun to play, and it's awesome seeing people who are crazy good at it, but MK9 exceeds it in so many ways. I'd give it a 9/10 for its time but comparing it to MK9 isn't really even fair imho. I'd rank them: MKX, MK9, UMK3/MKT, MK2, MK1 (and just for kicks) MK4, MKD, MKDA, MKA, MKvDC. And MKSM is amazing.

Cool to have open-minded people like you. In all honesty, this series caricaturizes Japanese culture the most. Who the hell is named "Kenshi" (swordsman), "Shujinko" (main character), Reiko (a woman's name), or has a sword named Kori (ice) blade?

General Steelflex The Shamanism and mysticism. Face paint, old tribal clothing from centuries ago, war/face paint, broken pidgin English (less so as time went on) and hell even his name. Most modern Native Americans don't have names like that anymore. The characterization boxes them in as one dimensional and gives no credence to the fact that the average Native is really no different than any inhabitant of their country. Most media representations of them make it seem like its still the 1600's.
Quick exercise as proof, type in "Native Americans" or "Indians" on google images and almost all of the photos will be black and white, paintings or modern artistic renderings with models wearing clothes from the colonial era. You'll find very few without ponytails, braids, bow and arrows etc. Our view of them is trapped in time and ancient history. The only modern ones you'll see will be those who work in casinos, another stereotype.
Only negative point of the game = Rain not being in the story/main roster.

I think we can agree that the animation in 9 was a huge step up from MK Vs DC in terms of animation and character modelling, and MKX is an even bigger leap in comparison. It's really encouraging to see Netherealm continuously evolving, putting ever more effort into their games.
This is still my favorite mortalkombat game even 8 years later
Quan Chi's leg fatality is my favorite in this whole game. He also has some crazy 60%+ type of combos that aren't even that hard to use with multiple uses of his mind control. Can't wait to try him in MKX
This series has really made me want to break out the games again.

I agree with the one guy, the past MK games while fun always did have a cheap feel to them. Again MK was before wasn't really know for it's combat minus fatalities, until this came out, and luckily this was so awesome that now we have MKX which really shows what they can do with Triple A resources. The past games are nowhere near bad but they haven't really aged well.
They did a damn good job with this installment. I'm excited for MKX as it's building on this. Looking forward to all your content, Max.

Hate to bring this up but jumping to the conclusion that just because a character happens to be Native American is offensive is a knee jerk reaction that just perpetuates the racial divide between cultures. Yeah, Nightwolf is an Apache and they historically fought with axes, wore war paint and had feathers on their head, those are things that happened, it's not offensive because its true, and it makes sense an Apache brave would bring that to the MK tournament. Furthermore, MK rocks! Good matches.

Modern aircraft and anti-aircraft missiles aren't built to handle something that could turn in the air as fast as a dragon. It comes down to how fast a dragon can move as to whether it could dodge surface-to-air missiles, but your best bet would be Artillery (which again, is limited in how fast it can turn, making it susceptible from attacks from the sides).

I don't understand why they complain about the animations in this game. It looks fine to me. And I don't understand complaining about the character designs. 85% of the cast looks freaking awesome. Which is more than I can say for Street Fighter 4.
I totally agree with Simmons, it's a bummer that the competitive MK9 scene faded away like that, it was so entertaining to watch!
I also agree that, while great games, old MKs didn't age as well as other series, to me, they feel a bit chunky compared to 9, which is obviously because MK9 had way more budget and people working on it.
I don't know if you played it when it first came out, but the online on XBL at least when MK9 first came out was pretty horrible. Random disconnects and timeouts everywhere. I haven't played since before they switched over from Gamespy, so I don't know if that improved things at all or not, but it did end up getting better after a few patches.

Kitana's X stance looks fine to me. I actually did something similar when I did Karate. Bending your keens to spread your weight. Give you balance.
I always stood up straight, though. I do believe her stance is authentic, though, and there are people who bend their backs in such a way.
My only gripe aesthetically was that the uppercut wasn't as beefy like in the classic games. MK vs. DC's uppercut was close.
The MKX uppercuts though... they do like 800% damage.

I think classic thunder wouldn't have been a problem if the design fit the context of his backstory. If he was a rogue native American banished from his tribe I could see his classic fitting the context better but as a character stated to "the hero of all native Americans" as stated in the original Killer Instinct that look failed to represent what he was supposed to be.
I remember them changing the Tomahawk class in Bravely Second. I was like, "You're replacing Indians with Cowboys? You don't see anything wrong with THAT!?"

I can't stress enough how much i hope that Cyrax, Smoke, and Sektor wills till appear in the current storyline. Mainly Cyrax and smoke since those tow were cool as hell. Sektor is awesome yeah, but if he were to nto eb around i'd be fine with it perosnally.

Thats what im still seeing an when Angry Joe interviewed Ed Boon he said they held on to the development work until their next gen game was ready than he passed on the info to High Voltage company to do the xbox 360 n ps3. Version....just give us one last game it would be total bullshit to have the mobile version but no xbox 360 or ps3 im not going to purchase. A nexr gen console for one hame when my 360 is still relevant to me!!!

They got all Huffington post on him and tried to shut him down while a 2 minute search online will show them that term wasn't always offensive and did originate with natives referring to themselves. This is just like the term 'colored people'. In the 50's and 60's referred to a black American as black they would most likely be offended, if you called them an African American they would probably look at you weird like if you called a white American a 'German American'. The preferred term of the day was colored. People should be careful to apply 2015 meaning to a term of a different age.
