I've been a Mechanic for 40 years. Honestly you think that the BEST H-D Mechanic is concerned about the paint on the Bottom of your Frame? I'd rate him an Honest "B" (A to F). He did nothing wrong that I noticed. The Solution is Do It Yourself. (That's Why he took the time to do this Video.)
I change my primary cover to a Willie G cover and decided to use my original gasket (only had 4k miles) and it would not fit. The gasket was about a half inch too big. Is this normal?
Transmission oil? I'm so lost. Just bout a 2018 Road Glide Ultra, has 3700 miles on it and I want to change the oil. Keep hearing you talk about transmission oil though, guess I need to read the book.
You mentioned in the video that you would include the part number for the gasket and the o-rings, but it's not in the description. Any chance you could share that information?
Yes, it’s an Allen plug. This is for the case itself and also will tell you if you have the dreaded sumping issue. 8oz max should come out of that hole.
I never did understand why harley designs their cycles to use 3 different oils. Seems more complex than It even needs to be.? How do other manufactures get away with long lasting bikes where they drain 1 plug, and fill with 1 oil ..
For openers, HD came out with Syn 3 so you can use the same fluid in all 3 holes. I don't, but that is because I don't feel gear SYN 3 does a good job in all 3. As far as why not just dump all your oil in a single hole, take a look at the crap on the 3 magnets. Unless you have a major problem, the engine oil will always be metal free, while the clutch and tranny will have either clutch material or gear snot in the oil. If you like the metric idea of running tranny and primary snot through your engine, have a ball. I don't. 3 different boxes with 3 different purposes. Best design for sure. Oh, and for those that want a tip, do not pull the oil fill plug at first. Check to see that the oil gulps out like it needs a vent. Then pull the oil fill and it will run fine. You just proved your rocker box breathers are working correctly.
Dude, WHAT A HACK-JOB!!! When you loosened the oil drain plug YOU LITERALLY WERE BANGING THE LOWER FRAME WITH YOUR RATCHET!!! YOU WOULD NEVER TOUCH MY BIKE THAT'S FOR SURE!!!
This is the best video for explaining all 3 holes for fluid change.
A very nice job with this video. Best one I have seen so far.
Best video on draining all three fluids!
Thanks for the video! I have to do the 5k service on my SGS and this was very helpful!

Very good video. Thank you
Love the video
Very helpful 💯👌🏽
Thx excellent video
Great help...saved me $$ thanks
Nice video, detailed, short, and no fluff. Did you use the same HD 20w-50 synthetic in all 3 holes?
Good video. Transmission oil to be checked "at ambient" not operating temp like the crank case.
It is cool that you do this vid with snap on tools.
I want this bike. I dream of this bike. Great vid! Thanks for posting!
Road Glider I have one for sale vivid black with 6200 miles
It's really easy once you've done it a few times.
cool video
I luv my m8 road king.
is this the same as a 2018 sport glide! as far as oil changes?
What’s the model number of that screw gun ? Been looking for the same size and brand or equal
I change my primary cover to a Willie G cover and decided to use my original gasket (only had 4k miles) and it would not fit. The gasket was about a half inch too big. Is this normal?
Awesome video man. Just one thing if you can mention the torque value of each of the bolt then it will be complete.
He did

Great video! What is the HD part number of the gasket kit for the o-rings and derby cover?
17369-06
Iex you cat som film over zij wheel contaakt me please me
I searched HD website for part # 17369-06 and it says it doesn't exist.
You mentioned in the video that you would include the part number for the gasket and the o-rings, but it's not in the description. Any chance you could share that information?
The gasket service kit is: 17396-06 and is like $4.95 retail.
@@jimclabaugh4999 Are you sure that service kit number is correct? I could only find 17369-06 (Not) 17396-06?
@@SuperDusty111 I stand corrected. Thanks for catching this.
@4:13 woke up my sleeping baby
so what happens if hex bolt is taken out? asking for A FRIEND?
Shouldn’t trans be checked cold...not hot?
So on the derby cover it’s 30 oz not 38 oz on my 2017 ultra m8 not like on my old bike that took 38 oz
I always knew it you had a oil at never knew why just do it
What type of thread sealant did you use?
Don’t use it. There’s a reason it has an oring
What is the torque spec for the derby cover?
18 to 20 inch pounds not foot pounds
Is there another oil drain underneath the engine sump at the front ??
Yes, it’s an Allen plug. This is for the case itself and also will tell you if you have the dreaded sumping issue. 8oz max should come out of that hole.
no link for gaskets and orings
what is drain plug torque???
bet 14-18
Is the bike on the kick stand?
its on a bike lift

I use SYN 3 in all 3 holes, no problems
Paul Louis I guess I mean why the need for the 3 different locations for oil in the first place, especially if you use the same oil in it anyways

How much does Harley charge for this DIY service.... $400.00?! WTF.
$250.00 at El Cajon Harley in Calif...
If it's the initial service, yes.
One more reason why I don't buy a HD why do you need to replace the o-ring every time you change the oil I think that all bs
Cesar Palma I've noticed. If torqued correctly the O ring doesn't get smashed to pieces.. Could go every other oil change but I know what you mean lol
LOL! The O ring is like 25 cents
Cesar Palma Well, there it is: the stupidest comment I’ve read today.
I've owned 5 different makes of motorcycles, every one of they recommend replacing the O-rings
Cesar Palma it’s a cheap o ring u don’t have to change it but it will work again but most hArley guys like to spend cash on your love ones !!
