      You might be surprised what the 6.3 W12 will do, even against an S8. Like the S8 it was underrated from factory and they have more like 535hp/500tq, the weight penalty is only 139lbs, the W12 is geared longer and holds a dead flat torque curve just off idle to redline. Especially with a tuned S8 where more lag is introduced the W12 is much more responsive around town/from a dig with no brake torque while the S8 is waiting for 3,200-3,500 to hit peak torque. Then once again deep into the triple digits the W12 shines again. Mine even moreso as I’m tuned as well. They take a tune pretty good for being NA and pick up around 6-8% on software alone
      I’ve built a handful of stage 3 S8s/RS 7s and tuned more 4.0Ts than I can remember. They can make big power and are really fun to tune
      If you ever come across one you should drive it, I think you’d enjoy the performance as well as the creature comforts :)

    • @fourings
      @fourings  Před 7 měsíci

      It’s a shame the Phaeton was dropped after only one generation and with only very light facelifting it’s a 2003 car underneath. A lot of beautiful details but also a lot of tech is missing like adaptive cruise, ambient lighting, wifi connectivity and google earth. The D3 A8 W12 had an MSRP about $30,000 more than the Phaeton in the US with many more standard features and they’re about the same price these days. Cannot go wrong with either but the A8 is the better value

      Talk to me. How are you feeling about it? It’s not a perfect car. I like it more than many other options out there but I’d love to hear your perspective

    • @highwaystar3780
      @highwaystar3780 Před 8 měsíci

      @fourings where do I begin? This is after 4 750il e38s in past 23yrs. Then a 09' Arnage which I kept for 9yrs, 2012 s63, 2013 s65, 2014 Flying spur, 2018 s65 which I sold recently. Most of them were new or hardly had much miles on them. All different in character and All with many design, build quality and engineering flaws. I've only put on 100 miles on the Audi. It's the Least sporty from all the sedans I've had. 1st 12cyl that iI can barely hear? yet the 20 inch wheels are unbearable on nyc roads. I can tell you as soon I sat in it that the interior design and materials are superior than anything I've ever sat in....IMHO. my younger son drove it other night and says it's not as insane as the Amg cars we've had but Overall it's more of a realistic luxury barge that does what it's intended for. By the way, I kept my 03 s600 because I've established that Overall it's the best mix of everything and possibly the best sedan ever made. Call me crazy! I'll keep you updated with the Audi...I don't get to drive much. The reason I didn't go for S8 is because I hate Puny v8. Hate puny eniges period. I really wanted a 2015-2018 but this came along and I got tired of looking. Dealer said these cars have so many things wrong with them when they come in for a trade that they're usually dumped at auctions but the woman who owned it barely drove it so they kept because its a good car. That's why I got it !

    • @fourings
      @fourings  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You’ve got a much better perspective than most everyone else that I’ve come in contact with so I appreciate hearing your thoughts. That’s a great lineup of cars. Absolutely agree with you on the build quality and design do best many of what’s been on the market. Having had a lot of time with a Bentley Turbo R, 1st, 2 and 3rd gen Continentals/Flying Spurs, 760s, S600/65, Mulsanne, Ghost/Wraith you really have to spend Rolls Royce and 3rd gen Conti money to best the D4 W12. I do wish I was a bit sportier like S65 for example and had an exhaust note like the S65 or Bentley W12, but look at the S8, even that isn’t very sporty. On that note, given your lineup of cars, you would be dissatisfied with the 4.0T in the S8. In the real world the W12 is faster more of the time despite being down on power a few ponies. The lag is real compared to a 12 cylinder and the engine needs to be revved to get a response- it lacks sophistication and it’s not a particularly charismatic engine. I had an 03 CL600 and also loved it a lot, but it felt heavy and cumbersome and, like the 07 S65 I had felt a bit too old man for me being in my mid-20s at the time.
      I hope you find that it scratches the itch you have. I’d love to know your VIN and options so I can add it to my database. There were only 327 D4 W12s sent to the US (ran from 2012 to 2016, facelifted in 2015 and there were only 28 in 2015 and EIGHT(!) in 2016 so it’s no surprise you weren’t able to find one. Your dealer is woefully mistaken to say that these have issues though, the D4 in general is decently reliable for a flagship, the W12 engine however is perhaps the most reliable engine Audi has ever made. They need to be carbon cleaned occasionally and there is a TSB for the thermostat which is mounted front top center and is painfully easy to replace, but that’s it!
      I could talk at length about it but I’ll wrap up this novel ha! Happy to have your comment and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Nice until it breaks. Tech is already starting to get stale too. If you get a good one, awesome! But if you don't, God help you.

    • @fourings
      @fourings  Před 6 měsíci +2

      This stuff simply doesn’t break though. Audi has a longstanding record of the types of things showcased in this video lasting without trouble for decades. There are a couple documented cases of the pano roof sunshade needing repair but it’s pretty simple to remove the glass panel and R&R the shade. Like everything the tech gets old, the rear screen resolution isn’t up to modern standards but it still has google earth and street view and google map search right there in the back seat which is still current with tech that is now nearly 15 years newer. Outside of the navigation, screen resolution and maybe the massage (which is dedicated and not lumbar based) the rest is mechanical that doesn’t really age, a table is a table, a reclining seat is a reclining seat and a refrigerator is a refrigerator

    • @fourings
      @fourings  Před 7 měsíci

      Possibly, but the generation of W12 before this one bottomed out around $15k for good condition and good miles. They’re already climbing up and are fetching mid to upper 20s for really clean ones. This one will continue to depreciate a bit but it’s the last naturally aspirated V12 sedan and there’s even fewer. The facelift ones are still well into $50k

    • @dexon555

      @@fourings You are very optimistic, based on what TOL Audi's have done in the past, I don't hold much hope that it will be a good investment. Repair frequency and cost plays a huge role in that.

    • @fourings
      @fourings  Před 6 měsíci

      @dexon555 I track the W12 market very closely. With about 300 D4 W12s on the road in total over all 5 years and the W12 being one of the most reliable engines Audi ever made it’s a recipe for holding value. A low mileage 2013 (20k miles) sold for over $75k not long ago. A 15k mile 2006 D3 sold for nearly $35,000 just this month. The enthusiast car market is nuts
