- Hello everybody! This has been a LONG time coming, but we're finally here! In todays video we will be showing you everything that goes into getting the H.K. Porter ready to operate under its own steam, and a brief overview of the inner workings of the locomotive. We have many plans for this amazing piece of railroading history this year, and we look forward to sharing them with you all as they develop! Thank you for watching and we will see you all next week 😎

Welcome to the two foot gage railroad community Logan!
Thanks for having me over
We will have to do it again someday.
This makes my heart happy! I'm so glad you had such a great young helper to share this special moment with!♥
Yes! Me too! That's the whole purpose of the railway, to share it with others.
I love that little goober, the amount of work done to convert it to a steam engine is amazing
Common practice when moving a cold steam engine is to keep it at walking speed. Yes, there may be oil in the bottom of the cylinders, but its not being atomized and evenly distributed throughout the cylinders, because there's no steam. Easy does it.
Glad to see her running again. She's a sweet little Loci. :)
The Steam Engine Key story had me good 😂 and them Cam's reaction 🤣 "...I'm pretty excited" 🥰😎👍 Was very satisfying to see you pull that throttle lever. Excellent job, Logan! Glad to hear those events are going well, too, Paul. That is just fantastic. Great video 👏👏
Thanks
Those little 8 ton Porters are gems. (It was nice to hear 1715 have to do a little work-she’s got a good little bark haha)
Your helper is one smart young man Paul.
Yes. It's was great having him out.
Very cool to see love it like seeing a real-life train set. Are you guys ever gonna allow people to put guest whistles onto 1715 would be cool to see her with a 6-chime or 3-chime. Best wishes to you guys and your work hope Neo is keeping you guys safe on the tracks. Cheers to you and best of luck always enjoy seeing your amazing progress on the railroad.
it is very good he is talking the time in this good to see in the uk
Great video! As a Porter fan I find the conversion to steam from air interesting. I had a hunch when she was for sale that she might have been a conversation. Explains the size of the boiler. Great stuff and great work! 🚂🛠
Nah that's not a lighter, that's a ✨Steam Engine Key✨
Looking great .I like the locomotive key .I'll remember that one ha ha ha . Have a great weekend
Great video!
Your young helper reminds me of my nephew and trains it runs in the blood. My grandpa maintains steam engines for the Union Pacific railroad. Some day, you need to find a little water 💧 tour to fill the tender. Great job on the video 📹 . I learned a little more about steam engines.
I'm hear for it!!!
Great Job Gina 😊 it looks Great
Thank you! 😊
Yaaawy
Most Enjoyable.Very Fortunate Young Man.
He had a great day.
Nice paint job Gina! The H.K. Porter is looking fine.
Yes good job Gina, looks great.
Its nice to watch things, that makes one 😃smile😃.
Very much so!
yay
😎
Just stumbled across this channel. I had no idea Porter made compressed air locomotives. Pretty cool someone converted it to steam though.
Hello! Glad to have you with us. Yes Porter made a few of these oddities back in the day. We have some builders photos in our "History Of" video from a few months ago. Definitely a strange but interesting machine!

You have to clean the smokebox tubes After every run Maybe not every time You run it , but you have to do it pretty often
Absolutely. We may not have shown that in this particular video but we do a lot of work off camera to take good care of our pride and joy ❤️
One of the best things about a steam locomotive working hard is to hear it. That background music should not be there on shots of the engine working! Just my 2 cents! :) Great little engine for sure. :)
Thank you for the input! We are a fairly new channel and are still figuring out a few things. Thanks again! We will definitely take this into consideration.
Are you thinking about making the line bigger I would like to see it go through the forest
Yes! Please check out some of our other videos. We have railway updates.
I wanna hang out with yall
Please add water level sight glasses there major safety device ( didn't notice there at the front of the cab as there normally on the backsheet)
Gauge glasses are up in front of both the engineer and fireman.
If so what are you going to do to get equal wear on the wheels
Quick question, are you ever planning to install an air compressor on the 1715?
I have been thinking about it. It would be quite the project some day.
Looks like your just taking water from the pond, have you had it tested to see how good/clean the water is
The locomotives I help with, we have treatment that we put in the tender whenever we fill it with water. Help minimize anything coming from the boiled water. (Like hard water buildup or other stuff)
No we did not have the water tested. Normally we run water from the garage (that is clean) down to the engine overnight on days we know we will be running it. In this particular case it happened so fast we decided to use pond water for the little we were running it and flush it out afterwords 👍
What are you guys using to fuel the locomotive? I didn't see much in the tender.
Wood 🪵
Which one is more easy to operate? The Diesel or steam locomotive?
The Plymouth is easier.
Do you run a descaler in the water ? And will you be building a water tank to fill the boiler from on track side ?
He may not yet have had a chance to have a water analysis done by a lab, which would then tell you what you needed for water treatment chemicals.
I can't speak to the de-scaler but we will be building a water tower on the main line once we finish the loop, and take all necessary precautions to have the cleanest source of water available.
@LibertyFarmsNeoWilsonRailway ok thank you
@LibertyFarmsNeoWilsonRailway I worked at a feed supply place that used a steam injection for making pellets that's why I asked about the descaler for the water .
@@tacticalrabbit308 That's awesome! And no that's a good question whenever steam equipment is involved.
I have one question
Are you going to run in the same direction all the time
I've been wondering too, once they finish with the track through the woods and rest of property, if they'll be taking it both ways. I think it might depend on how it needs to be stored once the final train barn is built? I'm sure we'll find out soon.
Hello! We will be adding a turntable and other switches at some point which will allow us more options on the main line once it's finished 👍 So no we will not be running one direction at all times :)
How does one go about getting one of these or having one of these made? Google has not been helpful
They are rare AF. But there are train/steam websites/forums for people who own them and may be selling. I think it's where Paul found the Porter. I think they explain that in some of their other vids.
We found this locomotive on Discover Live Steam 👍
