    I wanted to tell you: we bought a house! And when I toured the house, it was like I was channeling you: "we're gonna catch this gutter, this gutter, that gutter, and move the water to where it's not a problem anymore." You'd be proud.

      Awesome! Congrats! I'm glad you went into it with drainage in mind. I see new house purchases that have massive drainage issues that the buyer didn't know about.

    Concidering how badly the wheel barrels were rutting the ground I think it was a sound decision not to back all the way back to the house with the truck and trailer. Great job as usual from you and your crew.

    It needs ventilation from two sides for air to enter and exit using fans to push air and for it to exit from the other side. Using gravel for the floor to get rid of moisture.

    I have a house down in Raeford. Dreading getting under there.Basically have lay down to do anything. Maybe 3 ft high. Redoing the plumbing and electric so need to get under there for that. I did mold remediation at another home that has a dirt basement and ceiling varies from 2 ft to 5 ft. That was not to bad. I should probably put vapor barrier down at that home.

    It's interesting that the mold treatment you use is bleach based. I guess most of them are?
    Here in Aus I think more and more people are using cleaning vinegar and water solutions in a spray bottle to do spot treatment, and it's been working quite well for me.
    Less noxious as well. I imagine the bleach would clean up the surface a lot better though.

  • @chrisjohnson4666

    You ought to get yourself a spray foam rig... It's definitely a superior insulation and acts as its own vapor barrier on the sheathing so no mold... Well worth the money.... As far as the floors or dirt side best permanent solution Ive had experienced with was a 2 inch mud layer on top of 6mil... Do it once and done... In the end it's a better vslue because you never do it again and it ca t get holes in it...

  • @SlackerU

    I'm kinda surprised you weren't using a much larger sprayer or a fogger. I'm about to upgrade my larger sprayer to 2.4 GPM & a 50ft hose to battle these mosquitoes. I'd also suggest you have a high-pressure blower on a high MERV filter as an intake for jobs like that. Just blowing air around the property is not the same as pulling it out of the air with a filter, especially now that it's pollen season.

    This video is timely!! I have a crawl space that is not heated and my sump pump discharge runs the entire length in pvc pipe. I've noticed mold growing on it. The pipe is 2 1/2" PVC. Is there a split foam insulation for that size?

  • @StreaksSkunk

    Just curious Shawn, would it be advantageous in a crawlspace situation like this to seal your vapour barrier to the walls/pillars/and at the joints, like using a moisture proof VHB tape or adhesive like lexel or something to help create even more of a seal to help prevent even minimal penetration of moisture into the crawlspace?

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I don't this it's needed in a well ventilated crawlspace like this one. If the crawlspace was sealed, you would want to seal up the vapor barrier.

      @GCFD My dad had a home remodeling company until about two years ago when he retired. In the last few years of his business he did a few jobs encapsulating crawl spaces and blocking off the foundation vents. Supposedly the latest research is saying it is best to not allow crawl spaces or even attics to vent. I helped my dad on one of the jobs and we out in a dehumidifier to take care of any moisture. Of course I'm sure in 10 years new research will come out saying not to do it...but for now, that's the recommendation. He found many people were wanting to get it done. He turned down a couple toward the end because he didn't have the help to get it done.

      They molded up when the sewer right-of-way went in, destroying the drainage pipes. This flooded the crawl for a few months and we replaced all those pipes. This crawl is well ventilated so I don't foresee a problem but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the advice Chris!

    I would have used the spray foam...from a local company in your area. The spray foam has much higher insulation factor and it seals and adheres to the rafters 100%. Next time use the spray foam...but educate yourself in the mean time. Blue Sky's.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  Před 3 měsíci +2

      The crawl space is the least effective when it comes to insulation, so R 38 would be a gigantic waste of money. I like using it in the attic where it pays off the most

    You would be cheaper buying a 25 gallon tub of hydrochloride acid and water it down aka bleach than rm86, also after reading the ingredients of rm86 it has no biocide in it so if/when the crawl space gets damp problems again the mould will come back and feed on the residue of the mould that was just killed off. The use of a biocide spray would have left a residue and not allowed the mould to grow back as quick

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  Před 3 měsíci

      Great points! I like bleach because it doesn't leave a residue behind.

      Rm 86 should be used with RM 141. 141 is used first. It’s a fungicide. The 86 is just used for clean up and stain removal. i.e. grout and surface mold on wood.

  • @torchup
    @torchup Před 3 měsíci +6

    Respectfully, my belief is that trapping the ground moisture with 6mil plastic creates another mold issue and the plastic will eventually just disintegrate. The crawl space and ground moisture needs venting and the plastic moisture barrier would likely be more effective stapled to the floor joists after installing the cavity floor insulation. I would also make that sizable crawl space entry door mostly a vent-like critter proof steel screen for more natural air-flow and sunlight. Crawl spaces notoriously never have enough air venting or air movement to dry out the ground moisture that's contained and covering it in plastic seems temporary and has no where to go or no way to really dry out.

    • @maddierosemusic
      @maddierosemusic Před 3 měsíci +1

      If you've ever lived in a house with a crawlspace or even an older house with no access and dirt floor - but with no plastic on the ground - you might change your tune. The moisture would come up and into the insulation, the joists, subfloor, and the wood floor in no time at all. Rather have the moisture under the plastic than in the joists. Don't forget, the put plastic under concrete floors for a vapor barrier as well. Of course, a completely closed and conditioned space would be best!

    • @torchup
      @torchup Před 3 měsíci

      I live in a house with a crawlspacce surrounded by other thousands of homes with crawlspaces. I'm a residential contractor. Crawlspaces need airflow. Plastic on the ground disintegrates. Vapor barriers need to be attached to floor joists after insulation and simply not effective on dirt in crawlspaces unless they are rated as such. Shawn will tell you in his multiple videos that wet ground under homes need to be diverted rain gutters,/concrete/hard pack earth and NOT simply covered up. Thx @@maddierosemusic
