We want all the content that we can get from your channel...please keep it coming! Blue Sky's.
Thank you Larry!
@@GCFD 100% Need all the content you can provide! If I ever decide to leave IT work, I would 100% start a business here (Australia) doing this kind of work. We don't so much need to worry about basements because they are practically non-existent, but the drainage side would be great work.
I agree with Larry!
@@MistahHeffo Yes... I have already gladly offered my actual employment to Shawn in the past...Given im currently in Texas and have lower lumbar back issues However is the deal breaker for me to enjoy this kind of work.
Yes, I like the "smaller job" video as much as your more complex ones. I love the pride you and your team show in your work and the follow-up videos.
Had something similar happen years at my business. A building collapsed 2 doors away. The city did the clean up and left a big hole. During the rains it would fill up and flood the basement next door to my place. That building was also owned by the city. They installed sump pumps, but they were connected to a light switch outlet. If those light were turned off the basement would flood, which in turn would migrate thru the wall and flood my basement. Several times the F.D. had to come down and force entry into that building and pump out that basement. Our attorney was in the loop the whole time and finally had to file papers to get them to correct the problem. In the end the city installed 2 fairly deep sump wells where the 1st building caved in and then they back filled the hole and built a concrete pathway. They also had the build a new footing to the building next to me. No damage occurred to my building, but it cost them 10's of thousands of dollars to fix something that should have been corrected the first time.
That's a very interesting story, Elliot. Thanks for sharing!
The hard jobs seem to find you Shawn. I had the electric company damage my property when they replaced and underground line. They ran their excavator through my drainage ditch and messed up the drainage and they didn't fill the hole back in correctly where they had dug that began to cave into the drainage ditch. They came out twice and did a crappy job of fixing things. I fixed it by using proper fill dirt and compacting it and then put top soil on top of it, seeded and strawed it and the grass grew back. I also dug out the drainage ditch by hand over a few days and put new rip rap in. I kept the receipts made copies, took pictures of before and after my work and sent them an invoice. After about a month they reimbursed me much to my surprise. Some contractors are just not capable or are unwilling of doing the right thing. I think the electric company understands that too.
Keep it up! You are one of the first youtube channels I started watching regularly. Showing the drainage solution working after a rain addressing a challenging situation is what caught me.
Thank you Eric! I'm glad you're enjoying my stuff! - Shawn
Always great to see Gate City's quality work. On these jobs where you're fixing somebody else's mess it just makes the difference in quality all the more easy to see.
Every drainage pipe that goes in the ground should be using your system. Nice to see discrepancies get resolved.
Thank you Dave!
" the homeowners are trying to decide what to do with the rock...."
Man that is Greensboro. We all know what they do with rocks in Greensboro. It usually involves a glass pipe. 😂
👍
The little things are fun to watch also. Amazing that there was water coming out even before it rained from that older pipe.
My line of work being a locator for a gas company. I seen all kinds of stuff stuff. You wouldn't believe that other people did. They wouldn't take responsibility. Had nothing to do with me. I was just there marking the gas but I did witness a lot of things which weren't right so did a good job on this. Turned out all right. Owners are happy. The other people well that's their problem but no good job. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
In Australia post war they used to dig in phone lines for 2 houses along one side of the fence. Speed up to the modern era left house does say a water pipe repairs or a drive way, whatever , and they damage cut/ both theirs and right hand house. New underground lines are required for both sides now and left side is sued by Telstra for both damages
Great job on this one. I guess the one good thing about the corrugated pipe is that it works really well as a sediment control device. 🤣
It sure does Steve! It collects most anything that enters in.
Hello Shawn, I like she short videos and the longer ones so whatever you do I will watch it, Thanks, Scott
Thanks for watching Scott! I'm trying to get caught up on videos. I got some good rain footage today and am trying to do more shorts (new to me). 👍
Thanks for sharing.
This is very interesting how you also get asked to resolve these lawyer disputes.
What a great luxury to have that much fall on your property - gravity is your friend when it comes to drainage.
For sure! Fall wasn't a problem here. 👍
Nice metalworks house numbers at 26:49. The scroll grates on the basement window was unusual, too
Your fans know how well you run your business .And how you work it speaks for itself.Time after time job well done.
Keep it up Shawn! You are one of my favorite YT creators. Upload as much as you can. Thanks for taking the time to document your work for us.
I like your simple projects and I like your complex projects, I like them all, thank you.
Really like simple jobs for the DIYers like me :D
Nice one Shawn. Neat and tidy job to correct someone else's muck up. All the best.
Thank you!
Good one, A Big mess looked like a fairly easy fix the Mini made short work of it other than the shovel work...Minus All the Junk they had to go though before...Yeah i think i mentioned it before at my old house, the neighbor had an irrigation system put in and the contractor disturbed the soil to the ajoining junction main box, weeks later started getting a leak, ended up having to re-work the whole pipe & fittings to the water main.
As always, you made excellent job. ❤
Thank you Christos!
Great job. Simple but important to the client.
Thank you! 👍
Thanks for posting this video, please keep ‘em coming. I have found them really useful and am putting what I have learned from you to good use at the moment on a barn conversion project. 😀👋🇬🇧
That's another good job done by Gate City Foundation Drainage well done Shawn 👍👍
interesting to see the more urban situations vs the ones with an acre of grass to go through
that's a great point Matt. I didn't even think of that. Thanks for watching and commenting - Shawn
As far as the videos go I will take anything I can get! Keep up the great work
thank you! More videos are on the way!
I live in an apartment, why am I working my way through all of your videos? 😂😂😂
I hope you're enjoying them Jon!
Meanwhile, I am from overseas and in a city...
keep making these videos Shawn! Love your work and the detail you put into it. Thanks as always!
Keep em coming Shawn. Thank you
I would love to see more of these videos. Please
That corrugated pipe is awful Shawn, it’s great that you give your customers the best quality service and materials.
Thank you Dylan!
I love this channel. Keep up the great work! Hello from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
You boys sure didn't need the levels on this job....... Plenty of fall the whole way 😂😂
Something similar has happened to me, electrical wasn't as deep as it was supposed to be and over the property line a bit. They burred the first part then came just below the surface. I ended up cutting the line. The homeowner was going to go after the people that installed it. I dug the trench and replaced it to the proper depth on their side of the property line too. It sucks but if you hit something fix it right and if your upfront and honest most the time people are understanding.
Great story! I'm glad you got the line fixed! We hit an unmarked internet line yesterday...
Long video or short - your work is always interesting and enjoyable to watch. Great banter between you and your crew, makes it seems like we're part of the action. Your polite and complimentary interaction shows you are a great example of how to run a business.
I really thought that rock was going to be bigger! 😂
Prob just a cheap paver stone...
Must be fun working with lawyers
👍
Yeah, a simple job... 6 hours later though - ha ha! That sounds like my luck. Great work! I'm a big fan of yours, and since I've started watching your channel, a big fan of sched 40 PVC drainage. Small jobs are great, love to see that Harley rake in action also, but I understand... it's all about drainage and foundations. ⛈ Big thanks for the rainy day follow-up!!
This was really interesting. It’s interesting for us seeing the problems that come up.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one Stuart. 👍
living in an apartment and taking notes on any drainage tips from your videos in the likely future instance i eventually had enough of city living and migrate to the suburbs or rural areas
Your channel is so addictive, I especially like the culvert and ‘riprap’ videos!! Interesting to see how drainage works is done in the states. Greetings from the UK!
Thank you! I just received an excavator bucket from the UK. Rhinox makes great stuff
I love the work you guys do. I wish you were on the west coast so you could help me with MY driveway drainage issue. But anyway, please keep sharing your work with us. It’s very educational and inspiring!
One small critique: if the music we hear in this video was coming from YOUR truck, please don’t make a habit of that. It sounded bad and very annoying. Plus, neighbors probably hate contractors who show up and blast their stereos.
Go Sean & Jeremy & Ron! 😊
I doubt... don't hear em playing music on previous videos... plus it's YT, they are on 11 for these copyright BS stuff...
More content is good! This was a good watch
Thank you! I almost didn't film this thinking it was too boring.
@@GCFD seeing how you approach and handle curve balls was the icing on the drainage cake 👌
A nice job well done but I saw the bent and damaged window well and wondered why you didn't replace it while it was already excavated. Cheers from Edmonton Alberta.
Hey Laurie - this was a pretty budget job and they weren't worried about the well. I wondered the same thing. 👍
@@GCFD 👍
Gate City coming in for the SAVE! Nice work, very discrete.
Shawn keep the video coming, I watch you and Letdig18 also the Perkin brother got to support my tar heel bro.👍
Thank you for sharing!
Love your videos Shawn keep em coming! Like to see more shop vids also!
Great project
Beautiful job! 👍
Yeah Sean
I like your content. I was interested throughout. Of course we like the big jobs but small jobs are cool to watch too.
Good luck and thanks
Thank you for the feedback Bob. I'll keep making videos for you! 👍
Good work. I enjoy the videos. Thank you
Thank you Roberto!
More videos is always better
Thank you John!
Thanks for the vid Shawn!
Thank you Ryan 👍
Outstanding work !
Thank you! 👍
I think it's easy to say... you left it looking and functioning much better than you found it...
Nice work Shawn!! See ya on the next one.
Thank you OKman. I got some great rain footage today so there should be more videos soon. 👍
An interesting wee job. I like this content too
Good job. I enjoy your videos. We're basically running the same excavator. Mine's the U17 and I also have a Rhinox ditching bucket which I really like.
I got the rhinox quick connect pretty soon after I got that ex. I just ordered a 9" digging bucket from them on saturday and fedex called today (tues) and said it was here.
Great video👍🏼
Very goog job, 👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
Amazing work as usual. I think that could have been an amazing SDR-35 6-inch setup where you'd have a low-slope to slow that water down as it hits the street. A open 6-inch riser inlet can intake over 580 GPM. IMO all of that bamboo is completely compacted soil in that it's probably always hydrophobic unless there is an older OSSF there with untreated-effluent acting as a surfactant.
Thank you Bob!
Important job !
There is just no way around it you do beautiful work. People are lucky when they contact you. I know there are other very good contracts but look at your video history.
Thank you David! We did a french drain over the weekend where both neighbors split the cost. I really think my channel sold the other neighbor on my design.
Another great job! Keep em coming
Thank you!
15:50 I would have dug the corrugated out a little farther towards that rear door to tie in past the piece of pipe sticking up towards the downspout...
I'd have completely removed that exposed piece of corrugated to eliminate as many entries to the corrugated as I could to reduce the debris infiltration as much as possible...
Nice work!
Thank you Dino!
great quality content.
Nice fix !
Thank you Mac!
I like all your videos.
Thank you! 👍
any and all content is good to me :)
This was a good video. I would have tried to leave that post in the ground for future add ons. That property definitely need to drain the water from the back of the house to the front.
They said the post was from an old fence that was removed. We had to fight to get that corner piece back in place.
YESYES!!!!!! more videos!!!!
26:25 Ooo nawet stara rura działa też.
Chętnie zobaczę filmy z mniejszych prac.
Great video.
Thank you Dan!
@@GCFD I wish you guys were closer to me because I would have so much work for you guys.
Nice job
Thank you Mike!
Rainx on the windshield, will vastly improve visibility, especially at night.
Especially at higher speeds.

@@GCFD bead maker works as will, dont last as long
The drive way appears to belong to your client and the neighboring property has utilized it to their advantage.
What about the gutter line at the front porch? Would that just flow down the concrete step and wash out more gravel to the walkway?
Nice job so far, always great to watch!
👍👍👍
What a mess!
For sure! We got it wrapped up though 👍
You guys need some young bloods working with you.😂
For sure 👍
They ok working very well..
That's hard to find my nephew is 22 and he said people his age don't want to work and I'm grateful he is different the most people his age.
HOW IS THE TRUCK ? ALWAYS WATCH U.
Yup. Small jobs or big jobs. I will watch them all.
Cool
👍
Holy bamboo, Batman!
👍
Yeah, that legal stuff gets messy but in the end you fixed and the lawyers, homeowners and the contractor who screwed things up in the first place can now watch your videos to see what you exactly did to get the correct way to get things done.
This one turned out well for sure 👍
I would run a wire so they can find the line in the future.
that's a great point! We do occasionally run locator wires with our pipe.
Why not cap off that corner piece left in the ground? Or why not dig it up all the way?? Really nice to see how you fix mistakes.
I always wonder its legal to build houses made of wood and furthermore use vinyl sidings witch is not fireproof in any way.In my country we only make houses of bricks and cement and very little wood to the roof.
Very nice job, Shawn & Jeremy. How’s Ron doing, haven’t seen him in your videos in a while?
What about the downpipe at the step, could it not be caught as well ?
That was still flowing well as it was so they didn't want to touch it. Great eye!
That must be the pipe coming out of the corner of the wall, right at the sidewalk.
I would’ve used this square round adaptors.
When we worked together we did alo of work
Thank you for these videos, I've really learned a lot and enjoyed seeing the creative troubleshooting! What size pipe do you like to install for your drains, you may have mentioned it in this video but if so I missed it. Looks like 3" schedule 40?
I wish you had a few jobs with "Comprehensive Drainage Plans" using elevation maps & all b/c at 16:00 your intake is insufficient in that 4 inch corrugated is a 3-inch-smooth-wall worth of flow. In my State Sanitarians are allowed to create the drainage plans & have them submitted to the health department as part of the 'site plan'. I'd have imagined they'd want a CB there to max out that 4-inch in an area that can see 4-in flash-flooding amounts of rain.
As an example my setup has 5 zones draining into two watersheds along the edges of the property totaling over 1044 GPM of flow, 923 GPM of pipe capacity & the rest is swales.
Keep going Greg. We all start out as DIY!
@@GCFD I should probably email you my drainage binder. IMO you should have cookie-cutter plans already laid out. One for 1/8 acre, one for 1/4, 1/2, 1, & one for your 40ft of rock-inlet.. just basic GPM at a set price to help people understand what they should be purchasing. I imagine your State also requires slopes of less that 2% be required to have 'drainage controls' as my State wants. Our water-code here gives us attorney & engineering fees for damages.
Hey Shawn,
Any suggestions on what type of material to use to fill in next to the foundation wall when clay soil is not available? Enjoy your videos.
That vinyl siding corner eeeeekkkkkk. (Not your problem , but should be done right).
For sure Mike. I was stuck trying to get it back in place though. The homeowners helped to place it back in the corner. It needed to be nailed in, which is crazy they didn't do that in the first place.
Any issues with the pipe bell end being on the exit end ? The smooth pipe is better than corrugated pipe for most applications. 👍🇨🇦
