- The Vinyl Den is a channel about record collecting, by record collectors. This week I discuss the adventure I had buying a new turntable. The first one I bought ended up being from a scam website, but I eventually got what I was looking for, a new Fluance RT85.

I own the RT81, 83 and 85 and love all three. Terrific sound reproduction, great looks and all at a reasonable price.
I saw your post on the fb page and I'm glad you're digging this turntable so much. I absolutely love mine. I think it's such a steal for the quality and upgrades you get at the price point
Yeah, I've definitely been loving it so far!
Does it ever stop too soon?
@@joshualieder7524 I haven't had any speed or control issues with mine.
Just wanted to comment and say I love that you've got those live albums for Alice In Chains and John Mayer up on display behind you - those are two of my personal favorites! Great video, rock on.
Both are fantastic albums!!
Just watched your video for fluance rt85.
Was looking to buy a good turntable as was always a vinyl lover and the pioneer I had was not working. Was actually focusing on project as they had one turntable with s shaped tonarm but you had to lift the platter in order to change speed from 33 to 45 rpm. So accidentally I found fluance rt82 and was watching the previous.
When their new reference series came up I wanted rt85. I got to their website but unfortunately didn't sent out of USA and Cyprus where I live was out of their range. I saw rt84 at Amazon so I said ok go for it and you can upgrade later with the acrylic platter. I ordered it through Amazon last christsmas and I got it in 3 days. It's amazing turntable sounds nice with ortofon blue and it's a beautiful turntable ..... Enjoy your records with it.
Curious to hear your comments on rt85.
Regards Marios
I love my RT85! It was definitely a huge upgrade from my UTurn Orbit and my AT LP60. So far I don't have any complaints with the RT85, It's just a great turntable.
Nice review. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on purchasing this turntable to replace my technics SL-D303 but would like to know how slippery that acrylic platter is when the record is placed directly on it and using a record brush with slight pressure be put on the record to clean any dust off before dropping the needle. Also how does the Ortofon 2M blue vs the 2M red handle classic rock albums like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush...etc...
In the time that I’ve had my Fluance I haven’t noticed any slippage on the acrylic platter, and I use an anti static brush quite often on my records while they are spinning on the platter. I’ve never had a red but those bands all sound incredible with the blue.
Thanks for posting this. I also currently have the audio technica lp60 and was thinking of getting a FlunaceRT 85 turntable for awhile. I checked through some of your other topics and you never reviewed how you thought this sounded. I have watched other reviews of this and they have been great. I was curious for your opinion as you also had the LP-60. I am more particular now with pressings i buy more modi, analogue productions or 1st pressings, and analog pressings (not wax time such pressings that are poorly taken from digital sources). I think the LP-60 does a decent job, though sometimes these pressings have a bit of bass, which i figured if I had an amplifier it would fix that. How does fluance compare to lp-60, is it night and day? thanks
It is definitely a night and day difference over my LP60. The only thing that took a little bit to get use to was losing the automatic start and return.
@@TheVinylDen great channel! great channel! I’m starting in vinyl and buying my first turntable, and thought the ATLP60X would a perfect start, but i’m reading everywhere that it has some issues…. Would you say i can tell the difference for sure that the Fluance RT82 (not 85, as i have a limited budget) sounds way better even with the equipment i have? Sony SSCS5 and Aiyima A07 (which is budget but good). Thanks!
that kauai on the wall is a boot right? im assuming you may have gotten it from rollinrecs but im just guessing. would be awesome if you could share where u got it if its still available
Yes it is a boot (I don’t think it was ever officially released). I think I picked it up off of eBay a couple years ago.
Try a Grado Prestige 3 Blue on that TT. Mounted, it costs less than a 2M Blue replacement stylus. Better specs too. 10-50k hz and 27 db channel separation. Had one on my old Technics before buying the RT85. Sounds better to my old ears.
I got the Rega Plus 1 back in December. Sounds great, but I will never buy a belt driven turntable again.
Why not the belt, thanks
I boxed my rt85 and put it on the shelf. The tone arm is cheap! And squeaks when raising or lowering. Fluance is just another “hyped” up audio co.
I've been using it daily for a year and a half now and haven't had any issues with mine. IMO it's easily the best turntable on the market under $500.
I have a RT-82 and I love it I’m glad I went with fluance over u-turn even though I love the design of the u-turns. The only thing I’m not too thrilled with is the tinted dust cover. But I’ve gotten in the habit of leaving the cover up while playing records so not a big deal. I upgraded from a technics SL-B5.
I had an orbit, now I have an rt85. Totally worth the upgrade simply not to have to switch the belt between speeds
@@ganonkenobi that was my main concern and why I didn’t go with the orbit. Too much unnecessary belt wear and tear.
Same here. I've had an RT85 for almost 2 years now and I absolutely love it.
I liked my U-Turn, but it was kind of a pain to go from 33 to 45. Manually moving that belt made me second guess playing some albums, just because I didn't feel like moving it and having to move it back. Other than that it's a great table (especially for the price).
@@ganonkenobi That was definitely the biggest pain with my U-Turn. Other than having to move that belt, I thought it was a really good turntable.
I might get a Pro-Ject Esprit, can't wait!
That was one of the other ones I was looking at, it’s a nice turntable!
@@TheVinylDen Yea! Also, congrats on the new turntable, I'm happy for ya!
I gotta admit that I'm totally regretting my purchase of the UTurn Orbit. I wish their product was as good as their customer service, which is stellar. I will most likely purchase the Fluance RT85N once they are back in stock.
I like my UTurn (I use it as my secondary turntable) but manually moving the belt got to be a real pain and caused me to not listen to my 45rpm albums very often. After almost a year I absolutely love my RT85.
I laughed so hard when you said the domain was registered for a month and you still went with the purchase😅. Thank God for PayPal! 😁 I’ll be getting the same turntable btw, have an AT-LP120XUSB at the moment, it’s ok. Getting a Schiit Mani 2 phono pre amp and will be returning a Goldring E3 cartridge to Amazon that I got for it, not enough definition in the lows and mids compared to Nagaoka mp-110. Just FYI ;)
Yeah, if it wasn't for PayPal's customer protections, I definitely would have never tied it. In hindsight everything about that website screamed scam. lol
I had the same experience with FedEx and PayPal is great for claims and refunding money
The entire tonearm mechanism feels super cheap. The tonearm lever, stand and safety latch actually feels like something you'd find on a cheapo plastic portable record player like a Crosley. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's my honest opinion. There's a lot of slack in the lever, it bounces the arm if you lift it too quickly and the tonearm safety latch feels like its going to break off every time I use it.
Would an average, not too techy person be able to set it up?
Yes, once I actually paid attention to the instructions it was pretty easy to assemble.
