"FOAMER"- what I thought someone would reply with Personally my first big name high price ho scale locomotive was a bachmann es44ac in Pennsylvania railroad paint as it's my favored heritage unit
Cv 114 to 3 or 4 will make the bell on the Bachmann bell much more accurate. I prefer Bachmann over walthers. I’ve had some issues with mainline locos so I’m going to stay away from them. Nice video
@@iatif1995 the super dim ditch lights are an issue caused by the way the loco is made in factory, to make them brighter you’d have to wire individual LED’s to the housings
thank you for making this video, I was on the fence about going for walthers or bachmann since walthers has esu sound now but for the detail and price, Bachmann seems to have all the functions Id want (I am new to DCC just this month). Also can’t find the Walthers NS heritage units anywhere, there is one NYC unit on train world for $150, but all Bachmann units are $90.
Great comparison. Just want to help you out since no one has mentioned these items. On the front and rear, that red cable is a multi unit cable, without these the engineer can only run only one locomomotive. With the m. u. cable in between the units he is in full control. On the cab roof you mentioned the white octagon was an emergency hatch, it's not. It's a cover for antennas / PTC equipment . Walthers does sell a detail upgrade kit. Keep on going with this UP Omaha.... I'll probably binge watch tonight.
upo... nice video !!! here is an important point... walthers mainline out-pulls even the best ho engines in many cases ( kato/athearn/etc) as the have the same drive train and motor as the walthers proto 2000 have, which is your best bet but a bit more costly ! in the long run, imho, i would look at the current intermountain lineup as their prices are only a bit more than mainline and you get a lot more detail.... plus their pulling power is at least equal to the mainlines "parent" proto 2000 engines which are costlier. you will have to look around a bit but the difference in price is not that great... just look around a bit !!!
In my opinion. I like both models and I have a BNSF one similar to this. Okay the Walthers model lacks finesse of the Bachmann and Intermountain models but for a budget entry level model train that is about the same price of the Hornby Railroad range of models that are mostly ex-Lima anyway. This is a good option and I am sure there are detailing kits available to enhance the model to the owners taste. My biggest critic on that model train where it loses to Bachmann on this aspect is the dull ditch lights. Personally I think it might of been better for Walthers to have used nano LED's with either harness cables with plugs or just have metal tabs like the Intermountain models use instead. That would solve the dull lighting issues but for me. Its not a deal breaker and I do like the BNSF livery on my example that I will be covering in a video sometime in August.
Hey @UnionPacific Omaha Great Video!!! But I have a question. Where do you get the locomotives that you used for this video can you put a link for me. PLZ.
excellent comparison. the bachman pops a lot more on the front, but the walthers is a bit better on the sides i think as the molding pops out just a bit more. on the back, the walthers chain looks better but overall the bachman takes it. i'll take the bachman as far as the shell. i agree the walthers sound is better but those dim ditch lights would be a deal breaker for me.
@@unionpacificomaha We can try for my Birthday Weekend While My Birthday is on the 4th on a Thursday we can try to Railfan in Fremont With Owen & Allie on that Saturday
Really nice Comparison! For me I'd probably take Walthers side with sound. Bachmann should have improved the sounds on their ES44s like put a 3rd Gen K5HL instead of 1st Gen K5HL and Working Ditchlights on all 20 of theirs
I have UP 2569 In HO Scale With DCC and SOUND the engine is the same as mine horn same, bell same, light same, smooth movement same, and the looks are the same.
Sweet! IMO, the Bachman wins.
Thanks! I like the mainline for better sounds, but the Bachmann does have better detail
