    My dad worked on the MASH pilot, The property was owned by FOX. there was a road into there, we went there for a FOX company picnic. I don't remember the MASH set but I do remember climbing the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse and seeing the set for the original Planet of the Apes.

    This is really neat. I loved watching MASH beginning when it first aired in 1972. Man, this brings back 1970's memories.

    1. Yes, there was stairs there. Reference Goodbye, Farewell and Amen episode when BJ leaves the first time.
    2. They filmed Goodbye, Farewell and Amen (last broadcast episode) before 'Time Capsule' (the 2nd to last broadcast episode). The fire occurred during filming of GFA and the entire 'Time Capsule' was filmed on the sound stage.

    One of my favorite T.V shows as a kid and its reruns are still playing today , you guys didn't mention Trapper John or Henry Blake from the original cast . Sadly we just lost David Ogden Stiers who passed earlier this year ,I think now the only cast members living today are Radar- Gary Burghoff ,Hotlips -Loretta Swit ,Hawke Eye - Alan Alder and Klinger -Jamie Farr the rest has sadly passed .

    This show was very formative for me, watching it from age 10 to age 21. I was actually watching a syndicated rerun on television on my 21st birthday having my first legal beer. There are many things about the show that ring true today and I never get tired of watching the shows again and again, which is something I haven't done with any other show. (Well, except Red Dwarf.)

  • @wphansen3
    @wphansen3 Před 9 lety +2

    The final movie was shot BEFORE the final half hour episode (the one where the MASH crew buries a time capsule on the site of the camp--which was actually shot on the soundstage at FOX). The wild fire at the FOX ranch hit while the final movie was being filmed so they incorporated it into the story. If I remember correctly, the MASH production team had to get permission to use the location for the final movie since FOX had already donated it or was in the process of turning it over.

    Great video. By the way, the show started in 1972 and ended 2/28/83. Brought back some great memories. Just wish they would make this accessible by Jeep. Maybe there is already. Has anyone driven there in their 4x4? I would assume there has to be a path given the cast and crew had to have access to the site. I would really like to take my Wrangler to this site one day with my wife and sons. That would be so cool.

    Favorite show of all time. The wild fire burned everything up before the end of the show, they filmed the last episode before 3 or 4 of the other episodes (odly enough) and it was burned up and too much cost to rebuild as the show was ending. They rebuilt the sign and brought in the vehicle that was still painted. I wish someone would do a then/now with pics from the show. A bit shakey and fast moving with the cam to really get a good feel of the place.

    I've seen a lot of folks make this walk. But have never seen anyone attempt to drive a Jeep there. Obviously, there were trails wide enough to allow the cast, crew and all the Jeeps, etc to get there. Why hasn't anyone taken the ultimate off road Jeep trip to the M*A*S*H site? If the vegetation has narrowed these trails, why hasn't someone or some off road club cleared a way after all these years? This is a major destination for a lot of people.

    What is shameful is how badly some channels chop up the show now. Metv is the exception. I saw an episode the other day that had a sobplot of Klinger pretending he has a camel. I've seen that episode dozens of time through syndication and never saw any of that. Some of the land used to be owned by Ronald Reagan. He sold some of it to help finance his run for Governor. If you are also a fan of Andy Griffith you would also be interested in knowing that there were quite a few Mash episodes written by some of the same guys who wrote for Andy Griffith: Jim, Fritzell and Everette Greenbaum. It's a shame more people do not know those names because they wrote for quite a few television shows and wrote a few movies as well.
