I nearly spat my tea out when Steve said how much that top spec Trek is. 😐
13K price is insane...
Unfortunately there are still more than enough dentists out there who are willing to fork out this kind of cash for bikes that are simply nowhere close to justifying such a price tag (mainly people who you will never see out riding…). It makes it really crap for the rest of us, and drives prices up through the roof!
C'mon Igor....you're looking at Insane in the rearview mirror! For $13K you can get a High Performance 300cc Two stroke MX bike!
There are cheaper versions..
@@kldstl they may cost less but are just as insanely overpriced for the spec you get.
Trek prices. They're still asking 2600 for a Slash frameset which is equally as nutty.
My idea I believe 😂😂 I did exactly the same today at landegla 17 miles me on the EXE and my younger mate on a trek rail 625 . The exe held its own . The trek rail was in EMTB all day . I changed power modes depending on terrain. . Downs much more fun onEXE slightly lost out on steeper climbs . Exe way better on flatter trails . 15 percent left on exe 35 percent on the trek rail. . I’m 57 so no excuses steve 😂😂😂
Perfect timing, my wife is 95lb and I'm 220lb on a full power 900WH emtb. We've been looking at a Trek fual E and wondering about everything you covered. Thx
Good Video. I good friend of mine is looking at the Trek Rail 9.7 vs Fuel eXE 9.7 as his first emtb. Im about 68 kg and he is about 90 kg. I have the Trek Rail 9.7 and love it. He just watched the video and decided on the Rail 9.7 for his birthday gift next week. Thanks for posting😅
On our club rides, we have riders of all ages, fitness levels and on (e)bikes. Not problem at all.
Personally I often ride my trail hardtail and my way older cousin is always on his full power ebike. Sure he smokes me up and down, if he wishes to, but he needs to pace himself because my stamina can outlast his battery 🤪 so most of the time we are riding at the same speed while chatting 🤟🏾 when climbing.
Best one yet. Love the comparison. Great job.
Thanks Jay, appreciate it
Next put Louis on a non-e-bike and Steve on the Fuel EXE, to see if they can ride together?
100% This!! @embn
E will win hands down. My girlfriend is pretty much untrained and I'm the opposite and she was dropping me in eco
e-bikes are brilliant for this reason. My mate is heavier and less fit while I'm a lot lighter and fitter, but we can ride together at the same pace as he uses trail mode and I stay on eco. On analog bikes I'd be waiting for him a lot so it makes the ride a lot more sociable.
Absolutely correct
Price!!! Think of a number and double it!!
It seems mountain biking isn't for everyone these days
Would love to know the actual build costs. We are being taken for ride.
I think on techy climbs it definitely helps to have a bit more ermmm "rider ballast" to put some weight down through the tyres for grip :)
Hi, considering that the Fuel EXe does not have M/L size available, would you choose the M size instead of the L after this test? Thanks
Interesting thing about the prices, here in Australia the Canyon costs more than the Trek.
Either way, still more than I can afford to pay for a bike.
but are you comparing the same 'versions' as the Trek can be bought as a lower spec for an awful lot less
"I like you to say 'experience' instead of old age" - that's English humor how I love it!
You meant Welsh humour I hope?
Classic Steve! 😅
Oh! The joy hahaa think Steve had a few too many bevvies last night! Well done gives people a insight!
Thanks for the support, Spencer! We're glad you enjoyed! 👍
Only on fridays
Just waiting for my first Ebike and its the Spectral ON CF 9 with SramGX +900W Batt and also my mate is about Louis build and a machine at climbing hills but on a Spectral Mullet, and watching this makes me think Ive made the right choice given Im 106KG 5'9" average fitness but need to loose weight and was starting to not enjoy going for rides anymore given Im always at the back and the mates is always waiting for me, and by the way great video as usual and Im going try the Sgurr Ban on my MTB when Im up visiting friends in September :)
My friend and ride together all the time, I have a 2018 Xduro 7.0 500wh intube with a Bosch cx 75nm and I'm 19 stone and 58yrs.
He has a Levo sl 35nm and he is 45yrs and 12 stone.
On Blue or gravel trail we are even but on reds, I've very slightly got the edge but I run out of battery way before he does.
I think I would need a 625wh batt and 85nm and a large bottle 'fountain of youth' spring water to give me a real unfair advantage.
His SL is a great bike, I have rode it and it's far quicker on single track than my Xduro.
My 10 year old (35Kg) is flying uphill with his E8000 eaven in higher gears
I have a full powered bike. I’m 67kg and ride it in eco mode. The higher modes feel over powered for me and pretty useless as the cut off is so low at 15.5mph. I only ever dip into a higher mode on a really steep incline.
Like the jackets lads what make are they 👍
Steve is wearing a Gore Jacket. 👍
Hi Steve.Did you tested YAMAHA YPJ-MT PRO ?
Almost went with a Rise for my first EBike but ended up getting a full powered Transition!
Did you ride both bikes before deciding?
@@btentusscher yes, not that much weight difference and I could feel the difference with the derated motor on the Rise ,
Both stupid prices but £13.5k for a bike🤯 come on that's just ridiculous. 750 or 1000cc engined motorbike for those prices with change. Mountain bikers are getting ripped off and those who say we aren't obviously have more money than sense. World's gone mad
Would've been nice to compare the non top spec models. Surely this price range is available only to the smallest segment of your audience?
I think 💬 Steve might want to move to a Rocky Mountain 108nm e-bike 🤔
At nearly 43, and having injuries and issues with my body, I can pedal a mtb at 22.5 mph on flat smooth asphalt while sitting.
$13K??? That’s almost the same price as my Triumph Scrambler 1200XE LOL
I just got a fuel exe, ive watched hundreds of mtb videos but dont think ive seen any where the ebike has been tested to the limit against water leading to malfunction, so why not? Must be a concern for new or prospective buyers.
Rode a fuel exe at a testride for 40km at heavy rain. No issues. Did the same once with a levo sl almost the same trail and also heavy rain and had to restart the bike several times since power got off from time to time.
@@halfbrain86 i prob should of pointed out that i meant when washing the bike
Funny you should mention that. I was out the other day and ran into a large 50m wide puddle on the trail. It looked to be 10-20cm but I couldn't see beyond the a few meters. Then it hit me, I now nothing about water issues and in the hundreds of videos I too have watched, it is never discussed! In the end I bailed out and turned back!
I do wash everything with low pressure hose. I don't blast the motor directly but everything else is fair game. Never had an issue. My fear is puddles.
@@GDawg2K2 noticed my power assistance level goin a bit haywire yesterday from like 20w to 150w randomly jumping about on just a slight climb for 2-3 mins. Ive got the axs model so just another thing to avoid with the water.
Tend to find with this youtube channel its only positive stuff they have to bend ur ear about.
simple, Watt per KG, match those up and your set. (all else being equal)
I am 6'3" 100kg. I have no emtb experience. I'm old too. Should I get a full power or low power emtb? I am looking at a turbo levo vs the Trek.
I bought the comp carbon Levo. I weigh 179. I also bought a Genius 910 (no power). Get the full power if you have no experience . I am pretty athletic for 52. The full power is enjoyable and can tackle just about anything. I got a no power bike to do both so I can train and see the difference. The power definitely matters.... It definitely is a big difference and you still get a workout because the bike is heavier (approx 19 lbs).
13K... prices getting out of control..
I like my levo sl better then the levo I had.
I wish they would make a 20NM tq 250 watt batter super super light e bike.
I'm 61 years old, 88kg, happy owner of a Fullpower Rail, but really tented to go fro EXE.
wrong decision?
Just turn yours down , try renting a gutless bike before you swap to one so you don't need to guess
It's completely your preference. If you're looking to burn a few more calories or want more of a lightweight feel going downhill, then a lightweight e-bike could be the right option for you. 👍
what are those monster tires Steve is using?
Pirelli Scorpion 2.6 Peter
So what happens if I die never having riden an ebike. I'm never going to be able to get one,52,I'll use one properly to,not like 90% of ebikes round me using there treks on the promenade,I'll use it to ride my trail I've built to do endless laps up the two cool ways up to get to the top of it,dream set up. I know I moan on every video about not having one and no hope of getting one but its because I need an answer,I need to know how its fair that someone who hasnt been mounting biking like me from the mid 80"s can have a full sus capable ebike just cos they find the magical thing in life of money. Depresses the shit out of me.
The answer you're looking for is .... attitude. It's a self fulfilling prophecy, keep telling yourself that you won't have an emtb and you will probably always be right. However, if you start to look at ways in which you CAN get an emtb then you will undoubtedly find a way. So Instead of me just trying to sound like a guru and patronising twat (that's me, not you), why bot use your vast experience of mountain bikes to buy and sell bikes at a profit? You are probably capable of making relatively cheap upgrades and fixes to bikes to sell on at a profit. Once you have a few quid you can start by doing the same with second hand emtb's. There is a massive opportunity for second sales in emtb's and this just might be for you. Good luck! ❤️
@@Daffy0208 Even if I could save up the money I dont think there is any.moral way I could justify spending 1000's on a bike when the electrics running out, running out of bread etc it would have to be a gift or comp win both of which are unlikely but cheers for the support :-)
@ElvislaD if you're ever in Scotland then give me shout. I'll lend you one and show you some trails .... and I'll bring a loaf. 😉
@@Daffy0208 awesome he he :-) my bro lives in Edinburgh
I've been driving since the 80's and it seems every Teenager has a better car than me. Wtf
I forgot to mention that I don't have a well paid job.
Just not fair.
You can actually get the same trek exe for 6.5k same frame same motor and battery still pricey just not as pricey..
As a fit person with a mid power, I can firmly say there is absolutely no reason to have full power. Keep in mind fit riders still predominantly ride analog bikes and simply don't need all that power when we can produce hundreds of watts on their own. I have a mid-power big suspension and don't even use the stock highest power mode. Rather I choose to use custom profiles that mimic my CC bike in the lower power mode and then something more aggressive on the higher modes to do killer technical climbs. The appeal of the mid power is having tons of suspension with no weight penalty. So the comparison you should be making is fit mid power riders to analog only riders and how can a mid power make you more fit. Hint, I often ride my mid power with the battery turned off, and recovery days are much more fun.
Jesus Christ….. 13 grand! 😳
Nice vid, but obvious. Power to weight ratio (with the bike). I ride full fat at 90 kg and my wife an SL with 30 kg less. She however likes more cardio effort so works perfect. On a mid power would be verry comparable even to her benefit. She hates full fats they feel way to heavy for her , weight of bike to rider ratio also counts in the experience.
Definitely lighter weight beats ..I'm 65kg and my friends much heavier than me struggle on climbs but I really do enjoy full power e-bikes 85nm just awesome even I could go lower power..Most silly thing those lower power e-bikes cost too much money so there is no point buy them unless
Think you fellas are wearing each other's jackets!?
FFS how much do they cost
Can't see paying that kind of scratch for a 'mid' powered eMTB
A price tag of 13.5k totally defeats the whole point of cycling! I wonder how many mugs have actually stumped that up for a bike?
(Licenced credit broker, written details on request.....)
Are u really 78 years old? Wow 😯
I was wondering the same thing? But he said he is actually 58 as well in the audio? Which is he? Im guessing really 58?
One thing you didn’t add was the riders weight. You put a 5kg heavier rider on top of a bike & its majority is high COG that’s terrible for everything. Ide focus on adjusting you body weight & health & then your overall weight (rider & bike) will give you better performance all round 😁👍
Sorry boys. There’s no Magical suspensions. It’s all been done. Lonnng ago.I’d like to see the sales numbers on this on e-bikes have hit a tipping point. Anyone that has one will keep it. Anyone that does t can’t afford it
how can you even ride with no gloves dude?
I keep wondering the same......
The Trek would be rubbish on a big day out in the Alps
Those prices are insane
Funny, they used the same amount of energy from batteries😂
Weight? a bike (23 kilo) at £586 per kg, you can't be serious ! A New Mini Cooper is a steal at around £ 19 per kg.
You do realize it actually costs money to make something lighter?
£13.5k!!!?? Sorry but if anyone's actually paid that for a bicycle you're a fookin fool!!? But like they say - a fool is easily parted from his money.
You don't need to buy it. I made do with a cube reaction hybrid.
13500 Euro for that bike. It´s not worth it, shame that lighter emtb always must be the more expensive models.
There’s no way I’m paying more for a weaker bike😒
You need to go on a loop in the peaks then you will see half fat can’t keep up with the full e-bikes
yes for sure
There's a major impact on people's wallets holyshit.
LOL at calling a Shitmano EP8 a "full power eMTB".
85nm and speed limited is an interesting description of full power.
OK, Berserkski
Sadly, for those of us in the UK and Europe, that’s what we’re stuck with.😊
He's not 78
Steve is 58.
FIRST 😜🤣
🥇🙌
As a 350lb bloke myself it's funny to see 95kg referred to as heavy. I wish we could get some real content featuring an actually fat person and see how some of these popular emtb motors fair on hills.
Why are you guys not talking about the elephant in the room & addressing the reliably of the motors? & which brands value there customers & which don’t? The longer you leave this issue the less credibility as a channel you have.
The lighter person will win.
The price of these bikes and many emtb is insane. Spoiled child toys for adults! Who can afford that?
People with more money than sense, that's who..
@@Alan-75 Yeah, right, thats the only possible reason. 🤦🏼♂🙄 /s
there is zero justification for 13k for any mtb. they are just plucking figures out the air and saying ' yeah, we will rip off, sorry charge' the mugs, sorry customers whatever the hell we want.
There's a 6k version Kevin
Maybe do a couple shows with bikes between 1000 and 3000 pounds please
1000 pound emtb? Does such a thing even exist?
£13,500 for that Trek, Wtf!🫣
