    I just wanted to pop on here to really thank you for making this video. I purchased a 5-month-old puppy about 6 weeks ago and this is my first puppy in my adult portion of my 52 years. I did have three other dogs that I didn't love half as much as I love this little girl and I hate to say that. But, to the point lol, I subscribed to many many dog content creators. So far, all the ones that I joined are really good as well as you. But, I wanted to say that place can be a strange concept to understand. I was wondering why I would want my dog to go sit there in a specific place when I tell them to as opposed to just go sit. The way you explained it and put so much clarity into it and value on it for the dog to have a place to go that makes her safe and free and comfortable and all of those things, no one else has done that. I can't explain to you how good this video made me feel. Thank you once again and keep up the good work.

    I started place training way too late. As in i should have done it from day one of getting him. Hes 1 now and ive started doing place training. And it took 2 days and the excessive obnoxious barking has almost ceased. He hardly barked at the mail man.
    Place training has been the unexpected best tool for improving his manners and behaviour

Works for my11 wk old pup who wants to chew everything. She learned Down today. Did it 30 times, and then did Down in other rooms without the lid and without treats, just my praise. Yay!

    We will be getting our new puppy (she's a Miniature Dachshund) around the beginning of May. I have been watching your training videos regarding marker words. I have been curious as to how you initially teach these words. I was happy to see this one available for viewing. However, regarding words like 'Sit", how do you start training them to understand what you want?

    • @WellOkaythen.
      @WellOkaythen. Před rokem

      Idk if you still want to know this, but you can lure them using food, just hold it above their nose and move back over their head until their butt touches the floor, I'd practice luring without using the word until they can do it pretty consistently or you think they understand the concept, then lure and say the word, you can gradually reduce the lure and then the motion - most dogs get sit pretty easily. Or you can catch sitting on their own and rewarding them then and they'll naturally offer the behaviour after a while.

But during the training process- teaching such things as “stay,”- but they get up quickly and follow. How do you prevent repeating the command but still communicating yo the dog that you expect him to stay, without saying “stay?”

    Hi Rachel! I was wondering what the folding pet cot is called that you have? It doesn't seem to be in your links? Thanks so much!

    Does the place command apply to the area, or the mat? If I move the mat to another part of the room, will my dog go to that new place? Or does it require retraining?

      I'm pretty sure it's the mat he/she will follow. But to be sure try putting it on different places and placing the cue after the relocation. My dog got it after a few tries bit everydog is different.

He’s very obedient he’s been in training since nine weeks so I’m not nervous I’m teaching him please but I’m very interested and eager to learn and teach my pup . I know it won’t happen over night . I’m sure the answer is yes lol GREAT video btw !!! You’re amazing for providing such amazing information!! Thank you !!

    I have the same black and white place mat from Target that you have but the problem I have is that my puppy just chews and shakes it from side to side. 🤦‍♀️ He won’t sit or lay on it. Just plays with it. I even tried a towel but he does the same thing with a towel. He can’t have a dog bed either bc he just chews on it constantly and won’t lay down and relax on it. I hope he grows out of it. He’s almost 6 months.

      You cant just wait for a dog to stop chewing. He wont grow out of it. He thinks its a toy.

    I have a 10 week puppy - shih tzu ....she is tiny...so I tried to use a blanket for the 'Place queue" and even though I am training her to potty on the pad, she peed on the blanket.
    Any suggestion as to how I can change this behaviour? It's happened 3 times already...: -(

    It is hard to train or condition my puppy because she doesn't motive by treat. She doesn't like to take walk only sitting in front of the yard and watch and bark at people and dogs. Meal time is a stressful time for me because she is a picky eater. Help!

    I did this training for my 12 week old Golden Retriever….and now all he does is go to his “place” and sit and look at me. If I don’t constantly give him a treat he starts barking at me. Have I created a monster? Please help.

      Same, I have a 1 year old mixed puppy. She's a little too clever and every trick we have taught her she has started to d by herself and then bark to demand treats🙃

      ignore it 100%. keep doing things around the house, pretend like u don't see her barking.

    • @MiracleTurtle
      @MiracleTurtle Před rokem +7

      yup, ignore the dog if you've already shaped the behavior. he should be rewarded for those things when you ask em to. also may be time to start phasing out treats. extend duration between treats. or have em do 2 or 3 commands before rewarding

      Also everyone consider your boy/girl may be telling you there ready for a new game. They've mastered this challenge & enjoyed the stimulation, now they want you to give them another.
