    Hey, Barry. A 20 minutes infusion is way too long. It's usually 5 minutes for black tea (most of the english teas are black) and 3 minutes for green tea. It gets bitter if you infuse it for too long.

      @CatFurOnMyPyjamas Před 6 lety +2

      There is a drink in Russian prisons called chifir. Basically, you pour huge amount of loose tea (5-8 tablespoons per person) in a metal mug or pan, add water and brew it without boiling for 15 minutes or more, up to several hours. Long brewing makes it toxic, narcotic-like and addictive.

      I just can't believe an Englishman knows so little about tea! 20 minutes.....!! I'd try maybe 2 minutes at first for someone who likes the aroma but not harsher notes. It gets crazy tannic and bitter after 10-15 mins.

    • @ovaltineforlife4778
      @ovaltineforlife4778 Před 5 lety

      It's 2-4 minutes with black tea, 2 minutes if no milk or cold water added, 4 minutes if adding milk or cold water, although some teas don't bitter as much as others (i once left T2 Scots Breakfast tea brewing for 2 and a half hours and it tasted fine).

    First of all, the second tea you opened was in a pouch. You then open that pouch to get the tea bag, which probably had a string on it. Secondly, you're only supposed to steep tea for 3-4 minutes usually. It almost always says the recommended amount of time on the packaging, sometimes on the paper tag on the end of the string.

      The Pukka tea with licorice and peppermint can be brewed for as long as you like without tasting disgusting, you can even leave the tea bag in when you drink it. But that's just licorice root and peppermint leaves, I would never brew real tea for that long or leave the tea bag in the mug.

    One of the main reasons I watch these videos (besides the fact I like kitchen gadget testing videos) is because I, as a disabled person, really appreciate the shoutout to people with disabilities. I'm a chef, and the kitchen I work has a few of those veg choppers on a slightly larger scale, I think they're made by Swan. They get used about 10-50 times every day and I've yet to see any of them break in two years - the one Barry's got must be incredibly low quality if it's falling apart in a domestic kitchen chopping a few carrots and peppers rather than prepping the ingredients for 1000s of litres worth of c.l.o.c as well as other things.

    Tea is only supposed to be brewed for a few minutes. My guess is the company did it to 20 min in case you wanted to time something else. My fruit teas only brew for about 3-4 min. Otherwise they get SUPER bitter and taste like wood.

      I usually leave my teabag in for around 10 minutes as I love a strong peppermint tea. Also if you make your own fresh tea in a bag or ball that takes longer for the flavour to infuse so that probably why it goes up to 20 minutes.

    Perhaps for the tea videos, buy individual serve coffee-bags? Sure, they're instant coffee and vile, but considering your reaction to tea, it would be difficult for them to be less vile than tea for you. And for loose-tea, coarse ground coffee (the stuff you'd use in a french press) should also be quite effective.
    I don't know any tea that wants a 20 minute steep time. (I of course, leave my teabags in all day, but that's because I like bitter tea.) The longer a tea steeps, the more tannins (the bitter stuff) are released. It would be rather depressing and hilarious for you to refer to the ISO standard for tea brewing in your next tea video (ISO 3103) -- since it's designed as a standard for comparing different teas.

    From Google: Peduncle; the stalk bearing a flower or fruit, or the main stalk of an inflorescence. Most people would only leave a tea bag in for 3-4 minutes, so cold drinks aren't an issue. They should stick to coffee! You can also fry eggs in those omelette makers.

    I took universal design at university so some of these devices are really cool assistive design. Like there's a spoon that stabilizes itself so that if you have Parkinson's and your spoon shakes so much you can't eat the spoon head is separate from the grip so nothing falls out. So cool!

    southern style sweet tea!!! I'm pretty confident you'd love it! boil a small pot of water, add 10 original unflavored black tea bags, let seep for 20 minutes, get a gallon pitcher, add 2 cups sugar and the tea (teabags removed) fill it the rest of the way with water and serve chilled or over ice!!

    Black tea brewed for 20 minutes is going to taste so bitter and awful. I couldn't stop cringing every time you drank it! Follow the directions on the package and it should help decrease the awfulness (no promises on whether you'll like it).
    Also, while I'm a fan of tea, I don't like the traditional teas (Earl grey, English breakfast, green tea, etc) for most of the same reasons you dislike them. What got me into tea was the fruity teas from Teavana which many people would argue aren't even real tea since they're 70% fruit, lol.
