    So impressed with Kyle's versatility with off-road vehicle features and the ability for ad hoc commentary. Really coming a long way from his NC days. A reliable source for sure.
    Hats off to the editing team as well for blending the out-of-vehicle views and interior commentary. Super helpful.

    FYI: Ford's marketing term for the mechanical locking feature on the rear differential is "e-locker" (b/c it's electronically, not hydraulically or vacuum actuated, I believe), not to be confused with cross-axle traction control effects, which are all software based and not a mechanical locker...

  • @andrewashmore8000

    Kyle is super impressed with the mechanical rear diff lock , he mentions it alot , and for good reason , it does a good job. But its interesting too that on the front axle there is a virtual differetial lock too , by utilisation of the brakes and software to prevent wheelspin , not as good as a full mechanical lock , but still is effective to bypass the 3 wheel drive problem when one wheel starts spinning.

    This is the first I've heard that is has an actual mechanical locker. That's great! I assumed it was some sort of virtual ABS "locker". Even in the Pro model, that's crazy good value.

    Kyle said it - it needs a dedicated button for locking diff and more ground clearance and you have a killer vehicle. Ram will probably do that. They always take what Ford does, find the stuff it lacks, and then add those features. My Ram will allow you to put on the rear locker even in 2WD. Why? Probably cuz Ford won't. lol.

    That's why Silverado EV is coming next year and redesign Lightning in 2025 on TE1 platform.

    Wait for Ford 2025 redesign.
    The Ford F-150 Lightning is already being promised a redesign for the 2025 model year. Reuters mentioned this when discussing Ford’s production plans for the Lightning.

    I love the Ford BLue! I used to have XLT F-150 Ecoboost that would do Okay in things like that, with a lot of work... so, not so Okay I guess. Butt I wanted a Rivian, gave up on it b/c it will cost clost to $100K, and while I have a Jeep Wrangler RUbicon 4xe (PHEV) now, I miss having the bed and space of the F-150. My F-150 was black, but I ove the Blue! also, WHile I keep wanting to get teh XLT which make sense, I could only if you could add the pano roof to it! (I had that on my XLT, and LOVED IT!. Yeah, think while its not as hard core as the Rivian, I think if they offered a FX4 Lightning! wow! Price makes sense though. I paid like $57K for a 2019 XLT crew w/2.7L Ecoboost 4WD, and what they are asking for the Lightning mkes sense to me. the 4xe Jeep is like $64K as I bought it. Just make sure it has the tow pack, the roof, and a good sound system, and the Lariat sounds good at even $80K! (I'd still try to get XLT if I could add pano roof, tow & sound system).
    THink they may make a Bronco EV? :) I know Jeep is working o0n a Wrangler EV>

  • @delenius1
    @delenius1 Před 2 lety +1

    No locking front to rear -- you wouldn't need to since you have two motors, and there is no center diff or other mechanical connection front/rear to lock. The vehicle could just decide to send the same torque front and rear in off road mode. It would be interesting to know if that's what they do, or some other split, or dynamically adjusted somehow. Thanks for a great video as always.

    • @borisdemelo
      @borisdemelo Před 2 lety +1

      The reason a locking center diff works is because the wheels are physically unable to move at different speeds to each other because the locker prevents it.
      If you have different grip levels front-rear and send the same power/torque to both motors, you’ll get different wheel speeds and might start digging yourself in. So like Kyle said, they have to very precisely measure grip levels to decide the right amount power and brakes to each wheel.

    • @NHTacoma
      @NHTacoma Před 2 lety +1

      @@borisdemelo More specifically a locking center diff forces the front and rear driveshafts to turn at the same rate. With open diffs at the front and rear axles, wheel speeds are able to vary wildly - e.g. a locked center diff with open front and rear differentials will, when placed in a cross-axle situation with one rear wheel in the air and one front wheel in the air, result in the airborne wheels free spinning and the wheels on the ground doing nothing.

    One thing Ford MUST DO is increase driving range even if you have to put a big battery slab in the back bed. I know that much longer lasting Aluminum-Sulfur batteries are coming soon but in the meantime Ford MUST INCREASE driving range to about 600 Miles+ (960 km) by using a slab-type truck-bed battery on any new F150 models.

    • @adriaanduminy2910

      Not hard to calculate, it's hard to match the speeds that it's calculating. Determining how much power is needed to align all four wheels' speed while they are slipping is a very difficult calculation to do. Think that's what Kyle is referring to.

    How many RV parks, Nation/State parks, Campgrounds etc have charging stations? Wonder what those lines will be like and how long it will take to charge up when these are all over the camp grounds? This may bring asphalt and concrete to the last reaming green spaces that mean something in order to provide that infrastructure for all the long time charging that will need to be taking place. I hope a ton of patience is included.

    • @lesstevens2370
      @lesstevens2370 Před 2 lety +1

      Well here in canada lots of rv parks have full hook ups you can plug this into any power source 120v 220v or dcfc 400v it doesn't have to be a specific charger it does come with adapters like most evs do

      @ZenEndurance Před 5 měsíci

      One of the first things I ever saw plugged in the first time I ever RV'd overnight to a campground was a Tesla car plugged in to the pole next to me. So if it's got power for plugging in your RV, there's also power to plug in your truck. May not be lots, but it exists by default.

If you have an old cell phone you'll notice that the older it gets the less it holds a charge, it lasts shorter and shorter every month. I'm wondering to what degree that will happen to these cars. Gasoline engines also decrease in efficiency as they age but not in the same way. Not ripping on electric cars, just curious.
