you know, as disturbing and brutal as this imagery is (and more so annoying because of the flashing lights, like come on, really?), i find it darkly hilarious that the devs seemingly made the conscious choice not to kill the dog.
like, "yes you will rip apart bodies and see sinew tear and flesh ripped and eaten and viscera strewn about everywhere you turn.
but killing the dog? HELL no, what do we look like, monsters?"

What I love about this game is that none of the puzzles are really puzzles, they're just really time consuming, giving you a chance to see the detail in the game's incredibly disturbing visuals.

@Călin Guga I feel as if the game had deeper meaning. It could be that I’m looking too far into it, but it had a some-what cohesive story.

As someone with (thankful mild) photosensitivity, I'd like every instance of flashing lights in games/movies to just be a black screen with Wii music and RT's shocked/exasperated description of what is happening

As a fellow photosensitive person I agree
I agree as well
I agree
holy shit just imagine a movie where every major plot event is done like this, it's just a very brief summary of what happened by RT
This game does a good job of portraying what I call 'dream logic' where only the last five to twenty seconds has any bearing on how the world works and what you have to do, but imagery and objects exist for longer than that.
That's a very good point
i feel this is more like being trapped in a dream that isn't yours
I find my dreams usually have a sort of plot. The plot doesn't really make sense when reflecting on it in the waking world, but things seem to logically follow from one thing to the next. But if at any point I lose the thread, the plot just changes to an extention of the last 5 seconds like you mention. This leads to a weird split between my more cohesive dreams and those with sequence breaks where nothing really makes sense.
Usually for me it's the first few seconds, then everything turns
Fran Bow, Sally Face, Little Misfortune, Never Ending Nightmare, Knock Knock all give the same vibes, and that’s a very particular kind of tone, but it’s amazing when it’s pulled off correctly!

@@thewanderingmistnull2451 Exactly. If it were a dream, it would've been caught. The fact that it wasn't means that this isn't a dream.
If I had to interpret this game's "plot," I'd say it's about someone who's life is in shambles turning to drugs, having a nightmare based on an earlier time in his life, when he was young and _happy._ He's using drugs to _make himself happy,_ which is reflected in a good few events in the game, like the happy head getting stuck.
It also serves to explain why all of this horrible bloody stuff is happening in a kid's dream.
It's not. It's happening in the dreams of an adult who's suffering.
Yeah, the evil ”Happy” entiry is the reality of his addiction, pulling him back over and over again for another hit, and he obeys it because he knows that in between all of the twisted versions of his childhood, he sometimes gets to fall back into his ”real” memories. Even through his bad trips he keps chasing that childhood he once lost, that happiness he wish to find but always seems to slip out of his grasp.
@UC6fOJExpV-287zgFJkIAobA they said its not a kid its an adult and the kid are like the flashbacks/memories of the guy but those get corrupted from drugs-
Does the weird motif of things ripping tie into this? There’s a lot of ripping things in this game.
im watching the vid rn and just got past the scene of the head thing shutting the kids eyes to sleep.
imo, that moment of bliss and moment of recovery is represented there somehow, but the guy relapses into his addiction, repeating the same cycle of chasing that happiness through drug use. the big head dude could represent his addiction and being sucked back into it, that addiction forever looming, even in recovery.
but thats just my interpretation and how ive seen drugs on people i knew and such.
edit: the cult scene with the floating “timmy” could also represent his friends that are also gonna fall to addiction, whether tim tim pulled his friends into it himself or it was just people around him is honestly up to interpretation. the dead timtims could be his friends who had fallen (literally) to addiction, he being the only alive one of his group that is still addicted but is somehow living. the final scene of him breathing on the glass and drawing the smile could be his death through all that hell, or just him forever being under addiction never being able to get out.
nice game metaphorically for perception tbh.
I feel like this is akin to suicide, apparently when you die your brain is filled with happy chemicals (Yes, very scientific term) that's what I think at least, but the melting could also be drug use. Maybe this is a drug overdose

This game actually hit home for me, as I have and currently do suffer from parasomnia, which is a condition that makes me have near continuous nightmares as I sleep, which started around age 3 when I had vivid dreams of Dinosaurs tearing my family apart and a lot of other graphic things as well. It's progressed to more mature and gore filled things, But I've gotten to the point where it doesn't really stop me from doing day to day stuff. I also know that It's near impossible to wake me up unless I wake up naturally, which is why I have a service dog that is trained to wake me if My nightmares begin to affect my physical health. I'm very grateful to my friends and family that still care and take care of me through my life, and the moral of my story is to never take something as simple as a nightmare for granted, as just listening to someone can make a huge difference in their mental health, and in my case, their sanity.
TLDR: Night terrors and the inability to wake from them, is a very real condition and a very real possibility, and this game is a small look into that kind of thing.

Honestly, it feels like it's based on a trauma of having things he liked constantly being taken away from him as a punishment, being sent to his room and forced to go to bed. What I've gathered from the happy mask was perhaps a kind of coping mechanism to appear happy on the surface, but in the end even that is taken away from him. Then there's the not so subtle hint of his family ending themselves leaving him alone, and eventually the dog left him too leaving him completely alone without anything to love, then eventually dying of an overdose during a bad trip as an attempt to cope. This game is interesting, and in my sleep deprived state, it kinda makes sense.

It wasn't Timmy that woke up, but the smile demon(?), it had poked and prodded little timmy's memories (the neuron-like arms in the waking world) looking for ways to break him down and give up, systematically removing anything that gave him hope and a way to resist. after it did and completely robbed him of that, it pushed Timmy into that dream world.
The part where you see a red thing come out of Timmy's body is when Timmy "wakes up" in the dream world, unable to return to his body (hence why he's banging on your screen, and drawing a smile, trying to tell you [the viewer] that the person that woke up isn't him).

I find this game extremely interesting.
In an age where horror games are obsessed with hidden lore and “the hidden story” it’s refreshing to see a horror game that has no story whatsoever and is just surreal and disturbing.
I don't know, I thought it was kinda boring like, it reminded me of Happy Tree Friends where it just kind of relies more on shock value horror than it does on any true horror themes
And you say that, but I feel like you could still derive a lot of meaning from what’s currently going on in the game.
Have you seen how this game ends? It’s surreal and disturbing because of the implications of what’s going on in the game, or from what could be going on. To say it has no story whatsoever is a bit ignorant.
I don’t even know what happened still
I totally disagree with you , being scared because of a story and not disturbing elements is much more interesting than just being disturbing
This game just feels like edge for the sake of it. There's artistic dissonance and there's just throwing weird, frightening visuals at a wall to see what sticks.
Same- I wasn't really all that scared or disturbed, and I don't think anyone used to surrealist horror and mild gore is going to be pressed.

@@Succui You actually bring up a good point: it was REALLY heavily reliant on flashing lights to unnerve the viewer, without giving any context or sense. Seems like some viewers were really, genuinely freaked out while some (myself included) didn't reallyget anything from it.
Just seems a bit salad fingers crossed with don't hug me I'm scared, and salad fingers was basic "ooh edgy scary" fodder back when I was like 14 and of course the game as none of DHMIS's slow, creeping escalation and rising dread. No subtlety, just flinging "creepy" shit at random like it's straight from some over caffeinated teenagers staying up too late or something
Style is substance. Scary and disturbing visuals "for the sake of it" is perfectly valid

Here to share that I did decide to watch this and very much recommend not to if you’re unsure. It’s very disturbing and there’s no fun in having nightmares!
I would like to know that, for people like you, is there a way for you to be able to handle stuff like this without issues or at least to be able to manage it without getting too overwhelmed. I'm very use to stuff like this and very little things really gross me out or make me reconsider my life choices.
Not trying to be mean or anything. Just curious. I know you could just simply exposed yourself to this stuff more and try to force yourself to handle it more. But that's a bit much. I'm always curious if people that don't enjoy or can't handle graphic material, try to find ways to see if they can get better at it or if they just simply ignore it entirely.
@@alphanightmare6664 Some people do what you said (exposure) if they really want to get better at it (or are pressured into it), some just ignore what they know they can't handle as well. Most of the time you have the choice to watch disturbing content or not, so for the most part it's not a big deal. For many people, it helps to watch these kinds of things with someone else because at least they won't be alone afterwards/have someone to hide behind, which makes it easier for many to deal with it.
@@alphanightmare6664 I feel like I fall into this group, graphic material isn't all that scary to me, What scares me is sudden images of scary ghosts and stuff. I got this fear when I was a child (at the time I wasn't scared of ghosts), I was watching TV with my brother and there was something about a ghost being real and stuff like a camera with someone in the jail and then there is like a ghost (It is called a pocong here), I asked if it is real, and he answered yes. From then forward I am not able to stick on my own because of that thing, for me if I really do get jump scared I do just sit there and get cold sweat, the only thing I'd say that would make me be able to handle stuff like jump scares and stuff, is to not have any sounds. The very loud noise and the sudden stop of a music usually means a jumpscare and at that point I'd alt+f4 the game, as I can't handle it most of the time, but even with the music turned off I do still get very scared. But I do not get scared if it is just the music without any visuals

Seriously though, thank you RT for taking care of your audience. This is why you're one of the best creators out there. Take care dude.
Edit: what the fuck are these likes
They're for you! Have a great day
I’ve rewatched the disclaimer multiple times it makes me laugh so much I love it
I'm at home sick and was looking forward to RT cheering me up. Little to say I was not cheered up. I'd rather be sick thank you very much :)
This just shows that when there is a game with the word 'happy' in the title...
There's at least a 60/40% chance that the game isn't a happy game.
Let this be a lesson to us all.
I learned that lesson from happy tree friends
I learned that from happy wheels
Happy world.
We Happy Few
uhh.. does ddlc count?
I haven't seen anything this messed up since that one World of Goo level!
You know, the one where you have to blow up the eyeless robot head...
And the music, too... Please, make the nightmares go away...
Fran Bow, Sally Face, Little Misfortune, Never Ending Nightmare, Knock Knock all give the same vibes as this game, which is so cool, because it’s such a hard aesthetic and tone to set.

Little Timmy : *puts on a yellow happy face*
Somewhere, somehow in the distance :
*"thAt'S whAt tHe mAsK iS !*
*tHaT's wHaT thE p0iNt oF tHe mAsK iS !"*
The developers of this game were definitely on something for sure.
Whatever it was I want some
@@The_Keeper27 I guess they wanted to go dark after there project
Like fuckin Datura or something
I am a very big fan of amanita design, the guys who made this, and i can say from experience that i also have no idea what they were on, some games can make you feel dreadful and weird, but they're never this disturbing.
@@The_Keeper27 itd called alot of ptsd and crack cocaine
Games I’d love to see RT play (but like only if he wants to):
-YIIK. This game is hilariously bad particularly for its writing and I’d love to see English major RT tear into it like he did with Minecraft Story Mode. Only downside is the game costs 20 dollars when you should probably spend that money on something more worthwhile.
-What Remains of Edith Finch. I can easily see this becoming a long term highlight video. It’s super compelling story wise and has a lot of unique gameplay mechanics throughout it. Content warning for it though, I know RT is no stranger to murdering children in video games but Edith Finch portrays subjects like death in a much more serious manner, involving multiple stories of child deaths including the death of a young infant.
-Undertale. I know Dan has been plagued by sans in the past but if he hasn’t played the game already I’d highly recommend it, as aside from the memes, the story itself is really heartwarming and funny and it’s an overall fun experience.
RT YIIK would be my favorite thing ever we need to make it happen
oh god you’re right yiik would be incredible
but like it’s _so fucking long_
@@thatoneguy9582 yep, and you need time to take a break from it after a while too
Put these suggestions in the discord suggest channel!
RT Undertale/deltarune streams would be so good
The studio behind this actually made one of my favorite childhood games! Mechanarium is DEFINITELY not as much of a fever dream as this, but it is a cute game about robots in a similar, but much more steampunk-y style. Also the puzzles are real puzzles, which makes sense because it’s literally a puzzle game.
I saw this stream, it was terrifying up until the point he played Wii Sports Music at the end and turned it into a twisted psychopath's (dan) fantasy.
So I think some people are assuming that this is a bad thing.
same 😭
i think i tuned out of the stream before that and now i’m very upset that i did
That was so funny. It really shows how much sound design makes a difference in the atmosphere of a game 😅
Rt: *This game is horrifying*
Also Rt: _plays upbeat wii sports music_

You guys ever felt like waking up from a sleep, then realizing that you're still dreaming when you realize nobody is around.
Several of my recurring nightmares when I was younger had me 2 or 3 layers deep. I can only wake up when I get killed and sometimes I'll still be in one! :) Not a fun experience
*Looks at thumbnail*
"Why not?"
"The sun is a deadly laser!"
Physcadelic horror is a perfect description for this game
I'm a bit pissed because of the fact I watched a play through of this before Halloween.
I'll share my theory from watching that though:
I reckon due to how we see the monster, which takes the dog (it looks like him) and how relatively unfazed he is by it all, the boy has been imagining the smiling face and dreams about all of this because he's a bit fucked up. Looking at how he draws the face at the end and the ways in which he initially loses the items he has to get makes me think the smiley demon is just a manifestation of something in his mind.
We also see a possibly older version of them lying on a carpet at the end hunting this is all memories.
At first, I thought of this being the case. But eventually I ended up believing these are deep desires from the adult: to go back to his childhood and feel happiness again.
Along the way, these desires got mixed up with disturbing thoughts and feelings due either to trauma or severe depression (or both)
Considering the falling happening often in the game and how his adult self is splattered on the ground, I could only think of him commiting sudoku and before dying, getting stuck in this limbo of freak shows.
@@Vic_Trip nah, I’m pretty sure he’s just doing drugs
This honestly looks, sounds and feels like something I'd make in the throes of a manic episode.
I was able to catch a lot of this on stream!! super fun to see you play this!
Am I the only one who found the horror cheesy? I had a hard time finding myself scared. It's creepy, granted, but nothing that'll give me nightmares.
I found it pretty boring. Just generically creepy imagery thats been oversaturated to give it a "surreal" feel. Glad other people seem to have gotten the intended experience, though
Glad I'm not the only one. I just found the entire thing kind of strange. Not even really creepy or scary.
I know that the reason why it exists is why the same reason why we have fnaf. An earlier game exists with an unintentionally creepy art style and the game devs took criticism in mind and made a creepy game. Its supposed to be creepy and or erie not particularly scary. The og game in this case is specifically a childrens game. So the game kinda makes sense to be based around childhood trauma.
Well I for one, am a wuss. I get scared by non-horror games, so this.. I dunno why I chose to watch this, especially at 3 am
Same. The more/longer the game trying be be as creepy/disturbing as possible, the more of the effect is lost to me.
It was a bit disturbing for me at the start, but as we kept getting bombarded, it quickly became meh
Damn he really just executed big chungus
Best comment on the video
Dude, thank you SO MUCH for uploading this! I saw the art style and remembered a game I saw like 5 years ago, looked up the studio, and found the game. Botanicula!
The most disturbing thing about this for me, is that I was completely unfazed by it.
I unrionically had reoccurring nightmares similar to these. I was diagnosed with childhood depression and PTSD from childhood trauma.
Well that's absolutely horrifying! I'm sorry
i had nightmares like this only ironically.
Jeez, I’m sorry man
@@TheWetOwl ?
@@bezmagica my bad i used to be a hater
This was so fun watching live, Rt just trying to say everything calmly and chat is just freaking out
How fucked up would it be if you watched this video, then went about your usual day, but then the Wii Sports theme abruptly begins to play out of nowhere?
3:21 brings a whole new meaning to "ball is life"
If this is what happiness is supposed to be like, I think I'll just stay sad, thank you very much.
Shout out to all the people in chat saying this reminded them of Omori, because holy crap it's gonna be the best crossover ever
I don't think Omori is anything near this
On that note, he should play omori
this isn't anything like omori (from what ive seen so far) but HEY if it pushes RTGame in the direction of omori then im down
@@aquaabouttogetfunky I wouldn't mind if he even does it off stream, I just want him to play it
It's less of Omori and more of its inspiration, Yume Nikki, but yea
I was thinking “this game is pretty much a dark version of Chuchel” then the incongruent babbling started at 13:22 - confirmed! 🥳
edit : just looked it up, it’s the same guys!!!
This game is like if Salad Fingers met LSD. And Salad Fingers is already on some kind of messed up LSD so adding more to the mix just made it even more demented...
:)
This is the most unexpected game I’ve seen here.
