I got my last "new" job at age 58. Retired at age 62. I saved every dime I made from that last job which allowed me to retire early. It should be noted here that my wife also worked and we set our budget to live off just her salary so we could save every dime of my salary. Unusual move for sure, but it worked out great for us.

Nice! I am glad you were able to do that. Very smart move!

I am 54 and I just did a career switch 3 months ago! I am in sales and switch from selling clothes all my life (which I began to hate as I grow older) to selling electronics. It was bloody scary! I did saved up for at least 3 months to prepare for the worst. I quit end of Sept. I spent Oct jobless while hunting for jobs. I got lucky and got hired in Nov. During Oct though I was super depressed, suicidal, anxious, suffered from anorexia and insomnia thinking I would not get a job so soon but luckily I did. What more I was crazy enough to do it during Covid but I told myself Covid is no excuse - yes people are losing jobs but I see a demand as well - job vacancies advertised everywhere. I took this daring leap of faith (or death?) and I THANK GOD the transition was smooth!

Glad to hear you landed a new job--and pretty quickly I might add. Good luck to you!

I literally hate my job. I want to quit and go to college at 56 years old. I want to use the rule of 55 to live off my 401k, go to school and get a much better job. I dread going to work every day and work an afternoon shift which makes this job worse. I feel I can do this, but hope I can get a job when I get my certification. I have interviewed with much younger applicants and they are the ones getting the jobs. Hate to say, but it may be age related.

I have also worked jobs I hated. The only way I got through that grind was by telling myself the job is a means to an end. Because you mention you are about to get a certification I am guessing you have a plan which is great. I am hoping once you get your certification you can take time off work to job hunt. I am also hoping your certification will be for a job or career that is in high demand. That way you be able to overcome any age bias. (If at all possible don't dip into your 401k)

I went back to school at 52 and got an education degree and a teaching license..... I'm now 64 and I can't get anyone to hire me for a full time teaching position. I've worked long term sub positions and am now working as a teaching assistant, because it's the only thing I could get. I've had my foot in the door in several school districts, and I've been told that I did a great job and that I interview well. I've interviewed for positions that I know I was the best candidate for. So why didn't I get hired?... I'm not going to say it is my age but....

Have you considered finding a way you can do online tutoring? Google the topic. I know you'll find some sites. Also check out Fiverr or similar sites. Good luck. And, thanks for the comment.

Yes, I can see myself in the same position one year from now & even 5 years from now, but my employer (thanks to my rainbow snowflake millennial co-workers) is trying to push me out. I know "constructive dismissal" is illegal but people rarely win battles against their employers. But! great video, very VERY informative!

Thank you for watching the video and thank you for the kind comments. Unfortunately, there are many people in your situation. Those that come out of it on top are the ones who didn't give up and acquired a new skill or built a side hustle that eventually turned into a money-making business. To paraphrase Jimmy Cliff, 'You can do it if you really want, but you must try, try and try, try and try
