    good video Gavin, creative lighting a quite fun thing to do, advanced tutorial for me is you take something complex (like cinematography) and make it sounds very simple (theory wise) good topic and interesting result. Well done.

    Thanks again Gavin. That's a very interesting lens you have, and something new for my want list (You're keeping me poor, but happy).
    I recently used a 10 deg. 7" grid on one of my studio 400 w/s flashes and 7" reflector. At about 5' distance, light to roses, I had a surprisingly narrow beam of light that I used to illuminate 3 roses in a tall slender vase with the light beam about 10" diameter at the roses. I had first tried using a snoot, but it didn't give the small enough beam of light that I was looking for, so I tried the grid. I use the larger versions of these grids often, but I had never used the 10 deg. grid before. It will likely see more use now. There was some light spill that made the vase and table top visible, but it could be stopped out by just reducing the light 1 stop down. I decided to leave the table surface and vase very dark but visible in the shot, so the image had orientation to it, but it highlighted the roses.

    What’s the difference between the projector attachment and using a snoot? Sharper light?

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey Před rokem

      Not just sharper but also focusable, so a projector can be soft or hard edged light. It can slaso accept GoBo's and in this case slides to project pictures and patterns... But that's for another video 😉

      Just use a constant light through a small hole in a dark room. Add a smoke machine and boom

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey Před rokem

      Yes you can. You'll need a projection attachment that's designed for LED lights such as the Nanlite unit I used here czcams.com/video/SrOzAPf1SK4/video.htmlsi=q1CZc9A73zkk54gJ&t=331 but other then that the techniques are the same.

    Interesting. Is there a way to get the AK-R21 to project a narrow beam of light? I am looking for something to simulate a laser type of lighting. Thanks!

    • @BrianHalePhoto
      @BrianHalePhoto Před rokem

      i coincidentally just bought one of these on a whim a few days ago and from what I've read i'd say no, you can't. Gavin is using it more like a snoot than a slide projector which is what it is. But it's not a gobo. It sounds like even if you made a slide that is a dark circle with a tiny hole, the edges would not be sharp like an actual gobo.

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey Před rokem +1

      You can swap the 50mm lens for other lenses for a wide or narrow beam but it's no laser. You can get closer by using a slide (the AK-R21 is designed to project pictures) like I did in this video czcams.com/video/KC1T-2uFRZY/video.htmlsi=V9Qi2oxXUk26iJ5D&t=440 but for a real laser look you really need a laser, even a cheap one like I did here czcams.com/video/eFxqVt4j6gk/video.html

    I think you are a victim of your teaching skills. You are able to simplify complex ideas and some people may wrongly believe you are only presenting topics for beginners.
