My in-laws bought a new KIA minivan. It had less than 200 miles when the dashboard wiring caught fire. That was the second KIA van they owned. The first KIA van's front end was so out of alignment that it kept wearing out the front passenger tire every 500 miles. My in-laws gave up on KIA and bought a GMC SUV. It was newer but still junk. They finally listened to me and bought a Honda SUV, and it has been flawless for 30,000 miles. They are the type of people who buy junk because it costs less, and they end up doing that several times, especially when buying a vehicle. This causes them to spend about twice as much money on everything they buy. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen.
Blurred out because why? Juvenile? If the individual is old enough to take someone's property run in high speed chase putting people's life's at risk then be arrested for a felony then he/she is old enough to have he/she's face shown to the public.

I see no difference at all, that's why 1st degree attempted murder charges should be filed on every vehicle passed, met, gone by, along with every pedestrian another count each. Every conviction ran consecutive.
After 4-5 sent to prison with 250-300 years, you wouldn't be able to force someone to flee by holding a gun to their head.

Usual suspects... Mandatory 5-year sentence to be completed with no plea after any other convictions. Maybe the owners of things stolen get to use them as pinatas for an hour or so before they go to court since obviously they will not be held accountable to pay for damages.

The officers did a really good job of making sure they didn’t endanger other cars during the chase. That’s frequently not the case in high speed chases but these officers stayed composed and cautious. Kudos to them.
And their car didn't caught on fire.

Same thing happened in Columbus, OH but two “Kia boys” were killed in a high speed crash and the young driver survived. A week later, the driver (still wearing a back brace from his previous crash) once again stole another car and crashed head-on with a trash truck.

Driving faster than the next guy doesn't make an interesting pursuit... situational awareness, good communication skills, and consistently "smooth" driving skills do. From a former Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy (that means old and retired), one of the more professional pursuits I've seen in a long time. Well done.
It's really a challenge to muster a drop of sympathy for people like this who put the entire community -- anyone on the sidewalks or driving their kids or crossing the streets, taking groceries out of their car... These kids could have killed or injured anyone. Really seems crazy to charge them with "Driving without owner's permission" when they damn well DESTROYED the thing.
In my state of Connecticut the police are not allowed to chase a stolen vehicle. Once the thief's get into the car they are free. And if they do get caught nothing happens to them.
It was what, twenty years ago or so, that we began the practice of discontinuing motorcycle chases once the speed reached 100mph for "the safety of the bikers?"

A training officer has to be super cautious, if a rookie crashes they can be sent to retraining or not last the probationary period. They don't have full skills yet. By doing everything by the textbook the rookie can then get experience and learn what rules can be flexible.

Tell him to watch intersections, remind him to watch speeds, but don't overload him with extra information for the sake of doing so. It's more stressful to have your FTO barking commands at every damn light than it is to actually maintain a safe pursuit.

The problem is that The Police still have to obey some of the traffic laws, more so, the protection of the public.
One Department requires their Officers, even with their emergency equipment activated, to come to a complete stop at stop signs, and red lights. Some Departments won't let their Officers activate their equipment unless they are given permission to do so. Traffic violations need not permission but their Supervisors can override their decision to stop.
