- Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were sentenced in Spain for committing tax fraud. They were given huge fines and prison sentences initially. Sergio Ramos, Modric, Pepe, Falcao… Why is there so much tax fraud in football? How do players do it? Are they to blame? We try and answer all these questions in the 4th episode of Money Time! Easy because they are rich and it’s probably cheaper for them to pay a fine than pay tax

Thought all these guys had money managers n financial advisers. The IRS will go for the person whose name is on their account. Fines are way more costly than the actual tax. U pay for the assessed taxes n the penalities which are time linked--the longer the time span the greater the fines. Then there is the added expense of legal fees. No, the ones who escape r the accountants, money managers, financial advisers...theirs fees r running concurrent with the fines. It appears to me that the Spanish IRS deliberately undercollects so that the account holders are liable for these punitive fines! More money to the govt. Footballers r the biggest earners in Spain so they become the target, not basketballers, nor cyclists nor volleyballers! Notice they're foreigners so that's another way to "keep ur money at home." Cynical. Of course from the expats, it can expand to the local big earners!!

In my opinion if people donate large amounts to charity that are greater than the amount of taxes paid then they should be exempt from taxes. Another solution is, they pay the tax or they have to do community service or something...
