  • The impeller swap is simple and easy. It is recommended to be changed every annual service on this boat.

    Great video on this, thanks for keeping it so to the point and short. Literally everything you need to know on how to change the impeller. Some people go way too in-depth to explain this. Well done!

    Great video, I thought that impeller would flip to the correct side. Now I know for sure.

    Thanks for the videos, but I did cut my fingers off before you got to the warning. Still saved $100 doing it myself!

    I have a 17.5 foot boat with 4.3 V6. Very little room to work. I removed the rear seats and the middle board for better access. Putting it all back together was awkward. Next time I'll just remove the screws that hold the seats to the middle board and remove it. This will keep the seats attached to the rest of the frame. The screws holding the middle board in place on the engine side are hidden by the seat trim.

    Is there a strainer for broken impellar parts?

    Previous owner of my boat put the impeller in wrong and the fins are s pointing different directions. Several hours of runtime didnt corrwct it. Not sure how important the direction is.

    I attempted this job, the most difficult part is getting the seats out of the way to make room!

    Great video as always,. Do you have somewhere listed with all of the financial spread sheets you've used in videos? I always find those videos most interesting.

      The excel stuff is kind of everywhere on this channel. All of my cars, projects, and work related stuff has been tracked in excel or google sheets. I have a couple finance specific playlists on the home page which have more spreadsheet oriented stuff.

    I watched your Volvo Penta impeller change and overheating videos. I have question I hope you can answer. I have a 2018 Volvo Penta duo prop 6.2L 430 V8 (the new variable timing closed loop cooling engine) with only 45 hours on it. Never have had an issue with it as I bought it new. I also changed my impellers yearly in my older boats. However, I was under the impression that in a "closed loop" system using antifreeze, there was no sea water entering the engine and/or impeller, so I thought the impeller was being protected/lubricated with the antifreeze. I was wrong. Within 5 minutes of launching the boat this year I get a "high exhaust temperature" audible and the engine would go into safe mode. The front of the sea water impeller housing was extremely hot (as you pointed out in your video). I replaced the worn 2 year old impeller, but still get the "high exhaust temperature" warning. After sitting a couple minutes and restarting the engine, the impeller housing is now cool to the touch and the boat runs great all day. It just happens at the launching of the boat. Any ideas? Is there a thermostat in the sea water/impeller side, or is the thermostat in the heat exchanger of the "closed loop" antifreeze side? If there is only one thermostat and it is in the antifreeze side, I don't believe the impeller housing would get hot.

      I would need to see the boat but from your comment, my scientific wild ass guess would be an air leak into the system that is sealing up after things warm up in the engine bay.

    How do you get the impeller out of the housing?

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  Před rokem

      I use my hands but it is a learned technique. I massage it back and forth while pulling but an easier way would be to grab some needle nose pliers to pull it out.

    Please do not simplify a critical maintenance job, which if done incorrectly could cost the owner 10's of thousands of dollars. However, if you can not afford to have it done by a certified mechanic, or are in a critical situation, this could be helpful, very basic, advice.
