  • It's been a while but I have been modelling ! This has probably been my most ambitious project not only did I have a go at scratch building some parts out of plasticard but I also chopped a lot of the kit up to have the flaps in the extended position ! Overall very happy with the result the figures could've been a bit better but they are so small ! Plenty more builds to come !

    Fantastic!! My great uncle flew one of these in Op Tonga on D-Day and in Op Market Garden. This video has definitely made me think I should make one too :-)

    Absolutely wonderful. "...You'll find them all doing the Lambeth walk...." ..."Standby!" ... "Legs up!".... "... Up the Ox and Bucks!..." ... "... Up the Ox and Bucks!..."

    Oh, my goodness. Those figures on the sprue are 1/72 versions of the Airfix 1/32 British Paratroops. One of the big plastic soldier regrets is that Airfix never converted their 1/32 Brit Paras to a 1/72 set but there they are (some of them anyway).

      Yes, Heller and Esci sometimes seemed to do Airfix moulds.

    beautifully done, my grandpa made me this model when I was 9 in 1979 commemorating operation "Market Garden" 35th anniversary. Still have it in storage back in Europe awaiting return to a serviceable airframe status. Next project maybe consider the speeds of the subject more and the type of damage. On the leading edges of the wings and fuselage, etc. I remember from bushflying dirt gets everywhere.

    Very good job! Looks great. The rearsection of the Fuselage where constructed to be disconnect from the glider after Landing by little explosive charges. These allows a faster disembarking an unload of heavy load like a Jeep and a 6 Pdr. Gun. When used as an trooptransporter only the rearend not nessessarily needs to be thrown off. Please excuse my bad english.

    Super job on both the Glider and the diorama, a great scene from 1944, one that my Father In Law was involved with: dropped into Normandy from a C-47 Skytrain on D-Day, he was a 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagle."

      You're welcome mate...give positive praise where it's due! Yes, I do know all his details, I have his kit bag, medals and all the war memorabilia that he brought back from Germany with him when he ended his tour in 1946. I made a video about him in October 2014....here's the link to it: czcams.com/video/Yu8qRtyCJLc/video.html

    • @michaelbenjmitchell1
      @michaelbenjmitchell1 Před 6 lety

      We used the Horsa for Operation Market Garden as the Horsa had the larger carrying capacity for troops and equipment than the Gliders that the US used during D-Day.

    Very good indeed, congrats ! BTW, is it my poor view or the paras' denison smocks look a bit plain ? (And the american para went cautiously along or is he some kind of miracle ? His "chute" is unused ;) )

    • @udorechner6846
      @udorechner6846 Před 5 lety +2

      Weathering makes no sense in this case. These Gliders where made for oneway use only. They didn't become old. A little bit of Dirt on the outside of the fuselage an the canopy, a little dust on the wingfronts (Exhauts smoke from the towing Planes?) that's it..
