Tribal Conflict | Namibia Mud Huts & Remote Roads | XOVERLAND AFRICA S6 EP4

- This film contains footage from a local, Namibian tribe, images have been blurred, however, parental discretion is advised.
Namibia exposes the overland vehicle build weaknesses and stalls the team's progress, but the biggest problem is not mechanical. A new approach to Africa is critical but the team must decide to concede to the environment vs trying to control it.
The mechanical problems are teaching the team new things every day. The Tundra, Sequoia, and the Tacoma all have separate issues to address, but the show must go on. After all, the obstacle is the way and someone is about to celebrate a very important birthday.
With XO embarking on their longest, remote, section they have ever attempted, travel, logistics and fuel become everything and the smallest details must be calculated.

Next africa trip swop out those “trucks” with some 76 and 79 series Land Cruiser bakkies. Would go much smoother. And keep them as stock as possible😂
best review were their guide words : it is heavy and it has no power :-) plus petrol... LOL
Even a standard Hilux would be just fine for this trip
The joy in the kids face when they were doing the fist bump made me tear up 🤧
So happy to see Adrian with your group for this series. I’ve been watching him since he drove the Jimny
Thanks Jesse!
There is one big sin and that is to mix KWV 5 year old brandy with Coke. If you have to mix it mix it with water or drink it on the rocks or neat. Where did you find this amateur? If you want to be a "damduiker" mix Richelieu or Klipdrift with Coke. Also this is Africa you have to slow down and those poor vehicles running at those speeds on the bad roads. To much modifications are also not a good thing. A standard Land Cruiser 76 or 79 can do the job better. Although I hate them. (I drive a Mercedes g wagon in my opinion the best)
@@johanvanzyl5618in the states we are not able to buy 70 series unfortunately. Not road legal in US. We can import as collector vehicles only after they are 25 years old.
@@alabamafbfan1985What about the 2024 Land Cruiser sold in the states? Even better they could have saved all the trouble with the incompetent South African customs by just rent the Land Cruiser 70's in Botswana. Fly to Botswana and rent the Land Cruisers easy.
@@johanvanzyl5618 this channel builds up American market vehicles. The sponsors sell stuff in states like bumpers, rock sliders, lights, lifts etc. and the videos make us like the products to put on our vehicles. They use these 3 vehicles or other similar US vehicles (they seem to build about one Toyota a year). The vehicles they use are available to American consumers. We are supposed to get the Land Cruiser Prado at some point this year 2024 but have not yet. The last Land Cruiser sold in United States was the 200 series in 2021 I think was our final year. We have the “posh” Lexus version of some land cruisers here but they are more equipped for lighter “family features” compared to 70 series that we have never been able to buy new in our country. We also only get gas motor Toyotas. No diesel Toyota drivetrains avail to us new.
An American mindset in Africa means one can miss out on the real African experience...
How does this make any sense?
Xo is missing it
Thank you for joining us for episode 4! This was an amazing part of the trip for all of us.
Guys how much fuel does the trailer take?
What an episode again 👊💖
Spectacular, wow what an amazing episode, the best so far!
Thank you!@@BCooke7788
lol that's funny i was told by .trailed themselves that the spare tire tanks shouldent be used for gas because i was thinking of using them as gas storage ps love the vids
I am from India. I love your content. I see your content from the Alaska series. I don't know that I could go to these places once in my life or not. But, through your videos virtually I am travelling there. I learn many things through your videos, like leadership, bonding, how to be a true companion, how to be a good family member. These videos makes me dream that it may be one day I will travel many places like you..
Just know that you don't need to have the same gear to go there. I have seen people bicycle through whole Africa and have amazing experience. Life is short, set a date, gather some friends or make new and go. I wish you the best of luck.
Seeing the father son moments really warms my heart. I still miss Kurt though.
Thank-you XO for helping swing the pendulum back to Love, Respect, Common Sense and Humanity! Well done!
When we did Khaudum avreage speed was between 15 to 20 km/h and let the vehicle drive it self with min input, we once did stop go stop go and we did 5500km did not see much and it becomes a great spirit killer to keep up with the schedule, Remember this is Africa, African time, my 2 cents, slow down and enjoy,
Management of expectations but also aspirations. No point getting there if you missed everything on the way 👍🏻
XO always finds a way to portray the world as it should be seen, as this beautiful landscape, with so so many different cultures and heritages! The way you describe things is so very well done !
Great job Team XO!
I really enjoyed this one. Seeing the kids interacting with the Chief made chuckle!
i "liked" this episode before it starts playing, because if you know, you know
Thank you!
Rigid schedules are brutal. Old and valuable advice... when you stop for the night, always spend 2 nights in each place. Enjoy the place philosophy. Also, it allows for delays and exploring cool stuff along the way without adding pressure to the trip.
Yes you'll only cover half the distance but it will be a better experience.
My two cents :) The videography is on point!
I fully agree. I've enjoyed this series, but I feel they are moving too fast and covering too much ground. Unless it's truly just a transit day, 2 nights is minimum and some places need 3 or more to fully be appreciated.
I would also agree outside of a film schedule. Part of the hard side of filming what we do. Outside of filming two nights is a must. I’m with ya.
Just found your channel, well done for raising such respectful and capable boys.
A comment for the whole channel: Astonishing production quality video after video.... This is really tough to do iteration after iteration! I can see the work and planning that goes into these episodes as well as the editing and sound production... There is always plenty that goes on with expeditions like this that cannot be planned for yet needs to be shot nonetheless, yet the effort that goes into research, planning and shooting for the edit makes for remarkable story-telling...
And, in the midst of all that is the wonder, joy, and respect for what you are doing and where you are, and who you are meeting that is most engaging and simply awesomely enjoyable to view! It could be said that you have decided to make the world your university - and it shows!
In the domain of overlanding right now there are very few who can approach the production quality you are achieving and this is no criticism of those others since nearly all of them are one-man or one-woman shows and they do awesome work too! Adrian and Christoff you have met and they are not only fantastic individuals, but, just like your crew, really manage to communicate the awe and the wonder and the joy and respect that should be the touchstone of overlanding...
It only remains for me to extend my congratulations and a heartfelt desire to see and view you and the crew on the tracks of the world for decades to come!
Thank you!
Great video as always, really cool to not only have your boys with you but one celebrating his 18th and a father having a ""first drink" with his son is something to remember. I'm enjoying your friends on this trip, just the way south africans (and Brits) talk, it seems so propper compared to us Canadians/Americans, the little "The breakfast Oreo" "I didn't know people did that..." "they don't" haha was great. The fact you stumbled into meeting a tribe and chief is unbelievable, that is such a rare thing to experience. Really looking forward to the next episode. Cheers !
You need a good few months to travel Africa, hope you get to see it all one day.....
Adrian is definitely a good asset to any overland crew, hold on to him as long as you can.
We have a good few overland legends, keep them in mind for your next visit.
Thanks for the share 😎🤙
Paul you’re always so kind 🙏🏻
Awesome video as always XO Crew. Africa has some spectacular places and spectacular wildlife that many people over look but y'all have done a fantastic job showing these places in there most unique and spectacular form. Thanks for letting us ride along with y'all on y'all's adventures.
Okunene okuhepa. Thank you for this episode. The Himba tribe are a very special tribe indeed. Ndangi. I also speak the same language as theirs, Himba and Herero languages are similar
Being South African, now living in New Zealand, and having travelled these areas as well as Western/Eastern and Northern Africa, I love watching your channel. TIA is and will always be in my blood. Well done team!
Hi bush rat where bouts in nz are you
What a gift to experience the life experience of the local tribes and every day challenges. What beautiful people the children are a joy to see. What beautiful smiles and joyful lives they live. Those waterfalls are to beautiful to behold. You and your family are soooooo fortunate
Roam is with you guys ❤.. I've been watching every episode he's made and it's a pleasure to see him with you guys.
That’s so awesome to hear! 🫶🏻
I was genuinely excited to hear Adrian’s voice in the last episode as he caught the other vehicles up. Go Roam 😃!!!
Adrian Is another great Ambassador try to go visit Semakong In Lesotho
As a South African watching this, I am fascinated, entertained and heart warmed as I watch you guys learn what "Africa time" really means and get to take in the vastness and beauty of our continent.
Thanks for the content! 🥳
Luv this place!!
Welcome to Namibia and hope y’all enjoyed the visit 🫡🤝🏾💯
That was amazing. Your kids are so fortunate to be able to experience what you do and we are so fortunate to enjoy the end result of your hard work.
Syndicated TV wishes it had a program like this.
Right it would be full of drama and arguing.
This episode was my favourite so far. What a life experience for you guys.👍
If there is nothing else I would like from this video there is these word “ it makes me really thankful for what I have at home. “ Namibia has shined and thought.
Brilliant episode.
Thank you for sharing.
Looking forward to the Van Zyls Pass in the next episode! 😀
Thank you!
Van Zyl’s in a left hand drive must have been interesting 🤣🤣
@@markyeadon7271 Especially considering how wide their vehicles are and how tight some of the sections get on that pass...
Of all my journeys over my last 20 years in the military I always wanted to see Africa and never did it’s still on the list, awesome show and footage.
The hardship of the demanding conditions is soon rewarded at camp! Another epic series!
Thank you XO team and Roam Overlanding🤝🏼
Thank you for watching! ❤
Liked the learning of their language!
Awesome!
@@ExpeditionOverland You'll always be amazing!
Wow, such great videography! Amazing. This adventure is very daunting... The distance and remoteness lend to great scenes but the planning and support are essential. Great effort for great rewards, thanks for sharing!
Awesome JOURNY despite many challenges.
THX 4 sharing
Stay cool.....
Something out of the world man... This is crazy.... I love every episode 👌🏽 💯 😊
I loved the excitement from the litle village girl after greeting the entourage.
Love ur video best overlander on CZcams good job watching ur video from East Africa
What a treat to be able to learn of that tribes way of life. They are passionate about maintaining their way of existence. It is a good reminder to treasure and maintain our culture while respecting those of others. In the end, when reflecting on our travel memories, it will be the people that we treasure most.
Been travelling Namibia/Mozambique/Botswana/South Africa and Angola for the last 9 years and love to see others doing the same. Love the videos!!!
The pain I am enduring watching this is very addictive
Another great adventure by ExpeditionOverland. I really do enjoy your shows. It's an eye opener as well as informative. I hope you will visit my province of Alberta, Canada. We are actually your Northern neighbor. British Columbia is also another great destination. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and expertise with us. Love and respect from Calgary, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦
AM glad as a Namibian to have Expedition Overland x Roam exploring our beautiful country.
Full of lessons…waterfalls amazing!!! Tribe.. amazing!!! 🤗
can't rush africa , i came for 2 weeks , been here 2 years
This is so true!
So glad you had that Himba experience. It is special in its own way. Not many places left without Coke and Red Bull available.
The last 10 minutes was the best part of this video. We demand more please 😊. Great job.
As a South African I don't understand that Adrian didn't know how to make a simple aircon using a cheap fan that can plug into the cigarette lighter. Attached to it are shreds of shammy that you keep moist with a bottle of water now and again. Works like a dream. I went across Africa with that system.
slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
Another WOW video. You continue to inspire, and we trust this road you are on never stops! We will follow you! The Overlanders quest for experiences on our Globe is never quite over. We are still trying to complete your South American trip... but keep going!
Dude would piss me off! I could tell in this episode nobody wanted to be around Clay. I'm sure behind cameras he's just yelling at everybody.
Not at all 😂
Super cool part of your trip. It’s so interesting to follow your journey.
What a great 18th birthday. What a great family. Repect,
I'm enjoying this series a lot. Well done. Great production, and awesome for the kids to grow up like this. You have to take African overland travel at a slow pace otherswise a lot will frustrate you! I like the fact that the prolems are down to loosening nuts. Slow down... and also use nylock nuts! As they say, problems in Africa are part of the adventure!
Defenitly the best series I have ever Watched 🔥
Love you guys. Thank you for showing us y’all’s adventures in the Toyotas. !!
Absolutely amazing...this tribe is similar to my tribe in Kenya. the Maasai tribe.
You should be so proud of your boys and as parents . have been following you guys right from the start awesome videos fantastic
Thank you! I’m so proud of them.
Another great episode. As if that wasn't gonna be obvious. :-)
Rusks....they are just the best ever :)
There is so much to love about this episode… I have laughed out loud a good few times. Loved the birthday “dop” (drink in South Africa) and I loved the driver swap situation… been there done that too!
So glad I “found” you guys!
I like that "Dankie" from the lady.
That was an amazing experience.
African Massage! TIA!
49:12 Such a beautiful and innocent smile i have seen in my life
Wow. Love to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of an adventure of this scope. The tribal visit was incredible. Well done!
Absolutely stunning to see the tribes are still active in the North of Namibia.
Love the series so far. Makes us wanna plan another trip to Northern Namibia.
i hope you guys enjoyed Namibia. my home its heaven here
WOW!! Loved it Thank you for sharing some less explored places in Africa ❤
An amazing episode once again, thank you XO for sharing your experience and problem solving skills along with the Grace and Humility shown by your expedition Leader 👍
Yet again, another awesome episode. You can tell that Ryder is having so much fun
I really enjoyed this episode, thank you for visiting Africa. Next trip I guess you will include Zimbabwe on the list.
Spectacular!!!!
An amazing video! The wildlife! The waterfalls! Thank you for taking us into the village and meeting the people who live there. Fascinating!
Powerful show👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I can say you guys have a memorable travel expedition. You are going to keep these memories for years. I hope you'll encourage more people to tag along next time.
Never had any issues, driving a Toyota land cruiser, hilux, and Ford ranger doing remote trips. and keep them stock much as possible.
Did Mrs. Croft say "Dankie" at the filling station? Great to throws some the local language words when you are in a foreign place. Genuine smiles from the Tribe Kids.
You all have a lot to be proud of and thankful for. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
If I could not live in Texas, I would live in Namibia. Namibia has some of the best anti-poaching programs in the world. The tusks of Namibian elephants tend to be short and thick unlike East Africa where the tusk are longer but skinner. The official means of determining an elephant’s tusk size is by weight. This means that both East African, Kenya and Tanzania, are the same size as the Namibian elephants. They just have a different shape.
Love the series. I spent a week in South Africa and the people and wildlife and landscapes were fantastic
A dream would be owning such a ride, and travel the entire world. Amazing episode, keeps people like us dreaming. Shout out from Johannesburg South Africa !!!!!!!!!!!
What a way to turn 18! Happy belated birthday my man
