  • No fuel, no food, no help. The team has begun one of Namibia’s longest and most remote offroad routes.
800 km of 4x4, unsupported, rocky wilderness in the far north. Problem-solving is the name of the game, 1 km at a time, and the team must work together to make it out.

I commend you for leaving the comfort of the USA and coming to this remote part of the world to see these vast and beautiful natural zones that exist outside the Western paradigm. Our little friend said he is quickly going to fetch his bag 🛄 remember he said he sleeps at school 🚸, so when he was getting away from the cars he probably saw them moving and thought that we are not going to wait for him, or maybe the experience was too overwhelming for him. but it is what it is. Absolutely loving this series on so many levels, mostly the experiences with locals showing how worlds apart they are from what we are familiar with. Ten hour walk to school and no idea how to put a seat belt on. And the Botswana episode with the no bathing, deodorant from plants and a carved wooden pillow. These are the biggest takeaways for me. The scenery and wildlife (although sparse in Namibia) also is stunning and as diverse as the people. And as always, the XO team do a masterful job of delivering to us consumers. Thank you from Australia.

Something you guy’s should consider if you do another Africa trip, is get a local specialist to buy and build expedition vehicles for you in SA, and you could sell them after your trip. It might actually work out cheaper, and there are some really good people who know how to build vehicles for Africa overlanding. Stood for thought.

That Trailer that you passed have been there since before 2018 when we went past it. on the shot that the video ended, there is now a completely stripped Landcruiser lying there at the bottom who had a small misjudgment and rolled down into the travene.
FYI, we have done that pass in pouring rain in bone stock vehicles, without taking damage. From a overlanders perspective it is a extremely difficult pass. From a more hardcore 4x4 junki perspective it is fairly low level difficulty pass and obstacles. The Remoteness of the pass is amazing.. (Baboons Pass, Letsetele Pass those are difficult passes)

Random thought about the back glass though…any chance there is to much weight on the roof for how bouncy the roads are? Maybe the combination of the roof weight and the compression of the bounce is causing the body to compress or twist just enough to shatter the glass? Just an idea

Love these adventures you guys are on but if you're going to be tackling this kind of terrain you should really be running 37s. It's too bad that 37s are too much for Toyotas ;) since they're pretty much the benchmark these days for overlanding. In any case, keep up the good work.

5:17: Can you comments on what's in the "Truck Book?" Is it maintenance records? Wiring diagrams? I think you all were keeping the gas log separate.
I turned one of those 'alphabetical' accordion binders into the maintenance record keeper for my Frontier. Each 'letter' is now 5,000 miles. In 'letter A' I have the overall maintenance schedule plus the purchase info, as well as some basic info about the truck (nut torque specs, lift points, trailer wiring diagram). I've done the same for my wife's Highlander and my kids Camry.
I have a separate fuel log (a little 'Write in the Rain') book.

    Hi,
II have enjoyed these episodes of your Africa adventure. Sadly, like so many travelers, too little time is taken to appreciate places and surroundings - it's been a "fast" safari (journey) & expeditions I lead focus on the "slow".
Time taken to immerse in the people and places.
If ever you do return to Africa and wish to explore places like Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi in a slower style and are in need of an experienced guide for those places then perhaps making contact is an idea.
    For now, "safari njema".

Really enjoying the series. As a third gen Tacoma owner, I am wondering if we are getting to see the durability difference between the Tacoma and the Hilux in this series? I know it’s only one Tacoma and maybe just bad luck, but it seems it is struggling in the abuse of Africa. The Tacoma seemed to handle North and South America well so maybe it’s just an outlier trip? I get a sense the 4th gen will be a more robust platform.

  • @RoguePlanetStudio

  • @tomahawkshorthaul
    @tomahawkshorthaul Před 2 měsíci

Hi guys. Great series, very cool.
I am struggling with the build quality of your vehicles and the amount of stuff you're hauling around with you and your time frame.
I do not think big Amercan vehicles are built to tackle africa... our diesel Hilux has never had any issues off road in 289 000km.
Over the years we have learnt to take only the necessary.... I learnt a long time ago to adopt the K.I.S.S approach (Keep It Simple Stupid). Less stuff, less to go wrong.
And we try to stick to a maximum travel distance of 300km (or much less depending on the terrain) per day. This allows us more time to enjoy our surroundings, look after our vehicle, truly experience new destinations, cultures etc etc etc!!!
