  • Today, I am bringing you with me on my budgeting journey. We will be going over the paycheck that I received on January 5, 2019.
I have been sharing my real budget for over a year on Instagram, but this will be my first time sharing it on CZcams. By sharing my actual budget, I hope to show you the process and steps behind paycheck budgeting. I also hope it helps you understand the psychological decisions behind money management.

That is great! I used that method two years ago when I was learning what to do with my money. Now,. I use a similar method but use spreadsheets on my computer and only use physical cash for our weekly spending allowance which includes groceries and our "allowance" money. Every other transaction is done online so that I only have to go to the ATM and not spend so much time figuring out the bills. It has been working so far and I hope to continue to pay off my debt.

The paycheque budget rather than monthly is going well so far for this month! I ca;see I’ll be able to squeeze more out of my left over spending categories and transferring it to a savings goal (trip) rather than it somehow getting spent or fading away when I look at money monthly, so far so good! Thank you for the ideas!

I’m a new subscriber here. I’m very impressed with how easy you explained this system. I’m not new to this finance system as I have done a ton of research for many years on different methods. Nevertheless, even though I have my own spreadsheets I splurged on yours. I’m liking the way you are real about it and give us real numbers. So please, if you fail, share so I know I’m not alone. 🤣
You are on point that there isn’t the reality of real numbers out there while doing research on financial planning.

I just found your channel and think I'm going to like your way of explaining financial things because I think you break it down to really easy-to-follow steps. I'm a real visual learner and just several minutes into the video I see how you're using your calendar and also the forms look really helpful. I need to see how I'm making progress, help with long& short-term goals. And like you said, there's a lot of psychology involved in our finances Budgeting & financial planning is so important but so elusive to acquire a method that works... I've almost lost hope in being successful with this, but I'm optimistic as I watch this video, and I'll check out your links. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this recording. :)

@@thebudgetmom What a great idea! I hate having change in my envelopes because I'm afraid they'll fall out. Here in Canada we have coins for $1 and $2. They're big enough to notice if they go missing, but the little ones can get their own spot and go to a sinking fund.

Love your channel. Changed my life. Question. My fiancé & I combine paychecks since he gets paid biweekly & I get paid semi-monthly. Do you recommend starting our month on the day of that month’s first paycheck? For example, the first paycheck of February was 2/9 & the first paycheck in March will be 3/9. Should we date our month of February from 2/9-3/8 for closing our our monthly budget?
Also, we have some regular bills that come every 6, 8, & 12 weeks. Should those go on our fixed expenses for the month? Ir would you recommend them categorized as variable expenses?

That's where I'm stuck. Maybe I missed it. How do you apply online bills with the cash envelopes? Thank you btw! By far the best and most detailed budgeting video I've seen.

So I know you made an insta vid on this, but I tried to find it and can’t! Dilemma that I know you already addressed: I got paid on 12/28/18 and used that to pay for things/bills starting on the 28th. I have paid a few bills on that paycheck since then. I get paid on 1/11/19 and on 1/25/19 - when it comes to the expense tracker do I put all of my expenses for that month on that tracker, even if it’s on a paycheck that will carry through to the next month? This is the one thing I can’t wrap my head around in order to start my dash envelopes. BTW thank you so much for this video! Do you have any recommendations on how to do the cash budget when you are married? We have a joint account, but husband always just uses his debit card. I’m trying to figure out how to use the cash budget for both of us?

Hayley, my husband and I have 2 checking accounts with both of our names on it. One is used to pay bills and the other is used for everyday spending. Maybe try that.

Miko, I have a question- when we go to the movies - that’s considered fun, but we would probably eat popcorn or hotdog - that food we consume is paid with the fun envelope of with the food envelope ? Thank you!

Once you reach your sinking fund goal for the year/special occasion do you stop contributing to that sinking fund until you actually start spending the money?
