    A really fantastic car. Lister Jags are highly respected cars. The most famous Lister driver was Archie Scott Brown who’s legs were both badly malformed and he didn’t have much of a right arm. He was born handicapped like this at birth. He tried for many years to get a driving license which was always refused. Finally he was given a license in 1951 and he immediately went out to win many races. Sadly Archie was killed at Spa Francorchamps in 1958 when he crashed and the car burst into flames. Getting back to Lister, after the Jaguar engined cars
    Lister went on to manufacture Lister Corvettes which was quite an hairy car. In the intervening years Lister also made cars with Maserati and Bristol engines. I have been fortunate to see Archie Scott Brown and all the various Lister cars over the years.

    Interesting factoid. Ferruchio Lamborghini said of the XK straight six engine, 'why do you need a v12 when you have this torquey silky smooth straight 6 from Jaguar'

      @@loucostabile I have another for your delectation! When Enzo Ferrari saw the E Type at the Geneva motor show, he called it the most beautiful car in the world; and lamented,' How the hell are we going to compete with that? Sir William is selling them for less than half the price of our cars!'.

    I learnt many years ago by an ace mechanic never gun or rev an engine then switch it off. Whilst it makes for a nice entrance when he drove the car in, it in fact is introducing unburnt fuel into the engine before it gets a chance to be ignited. The fuel runs down the cylinder bores and keeping up this habit multiplies the the amount of fuel in the bores overtime, some even ending up in the sump. 70% percent of engine wear is on startup... As to the Lister, a magnificent piece of English racing car design, helped by the venerable XK engine. I recommend 'Archie and the Listers' by Robert Edwards, a fantastic account of Archie Scott Brown whose physical handicap didn't stop him becoming a very famous driver at the wheel of these Listers.

    Great video and great topic, I love it! I knew Terry lived in Mesa, AZ but looking at the mountains in the background it looks like he is just a stone throw from me as I live over by the Superstitions. Would really enjoy getting to see his car in person and maybe even shoot a few photos of it besides my Beck Lister Corvette replica. Interesting, I know of a couple more Beck Listers in the area so it seems Phoenix is a magnet for them.

    Lou one of my all time favorite cars. I have been looking for a Beck replica for a few years. All of the ones I find are not up to my standard. You know they are being recreated again in Coventry ? Needed to mention The Lister driver Archie! He was killed racing and Brian Lister lost the want to race after the death of his friend.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  Před 7 lety

      Hi Chris, You have great taste in cars :-) This is an outstanding "real" car, and I love the curves on this car. Not sure where they are recreating the car, however maybe a Viewer can share the answer, Lou

    • @888ViralVideo
      @888ViralVideo Před 7 lety

      Chris, if you find one that Beck himself built to completion - a turn key -- the construction and coachwork is fine. He and his son built ~27 in various forms - kits, rollers, turn keys, and two lightweight racers - and I know where most of them are hidden...one racer, #007 is 10-ft from me as I type this. Beck was not interested in producing museum pieces...his Lister Corvette tribute cars were built strong and fast in honor of the originals that are often too valuable to be driven at 10/10ths today. If you can find one for sale, grab it...they're only going up in value.
