Over the last few weeks this has become my number one tool song of all time. Wasn't sure at first but 100% positive now. The bass is so thick you can bite into it.
I believe this song is THE tool masterpiece. Over time I think it will become recognized as one of the greatest rock/metal songs of all time/top 10 easy.

Every song on this album gets me rocking along with them, but there is something about the build to the climax of this one that gets the hairs of my body standing on end. When Maynard gets to "muster every fiber, mobilize, STAY. ALIVE!" and I'm running or riding my bike, I have no choice but to be drilling it. I nearly start running when I'm listening while walking. There's something really powerful to me in these lyrics.

Descending is epic, the best on the album and one of my favorites from a band who has put on a clinic since the 90s to now. This album had really shown their progression and it's amazing. A metaphoric butterfly sort of speak

I am amazed by your quick dissection of these songs, and what they mean to you, or could potentially mean to the listener. And more importantly, to break down these songs lyrically on the fly to give a first time listener a foothold into these songs so they can later try to break them down themselves. Very smart guy Vin. Sori starts out by giving the very best advice on listening to tool.
I love how one TOOL song can bring out so many conversations and trains of thought. They are truly amazing for everything they do.
In case no one has said it yet.. falling isn't flying is a reference to the book "Ishmael" which covers this same topic. The author compares human civilization to the Wright Brothers' first attempts at flight. You can build a contraption for flight and drive it off a cliff, but no matter how hard you pedal, it *will* hit the ground eventually. He is saying that the current way we live as an "advanced species" is doomed to fail no matter how hard we pedal because it is not designed to sustain itself forever, or in other words, we are still in the beginning phases of the Wright Brothers' quest for flight.
MJK's vocals on the last half of this song are insanely great.

Almost every single song on this album demands multiple listenings over time. My feeling is that's there's so much to digest it simply takes time to get familiar and once that happens a more accurate reaction is displayed. Every time I listen to these songs my love grows stronger. They are just amazing. To concentrate on the lyrics the first time around is ludicrous. Just my opinion and my observations of so many people who have already attempted to react to these songs along with hundreds on the Tool FB pages giving their own opinions. This album is very special.
Around 12 mins in your vid (song reference) feels like a cinematic drama of skydiving (metaphorically) and a minute later when Danny hits splash cymbals and changes the tempo, I immediately pictures a parachute successfully opening (reawakening symbolism).... just a visual I suppose. Just me...?
I like that he vibes in 4/4 while the song is in 7/4 made a little polyrhythm right there danny approves
If you listen really closely, you can hear Danny on the “fire alarm needs a battery” synth

i firmly believe in 2 things regarding new music experiences. 1 - listen to the 'song' first time without trying to analyse anything, just listen and enjoy and immerse... there's plenty of time to revisit and analyse, 2. listen to new albums all the way through in one sitting AND in the order the artists arranged it in i.e. from start to finish without skipping around (to hear a single that was released). an album is designed by artists to flow in a certain way to allow the listener to get and appreciate the full experience... just sayin' respect :)

There is so much to digest in the main tracks of the album, you really need to listen beginning to end. Multiple times. It's all one connected narrative, which just improves on each listen.

All Tool songs are a story. Think of yourself on an ocean journey with this song. The ocean sounds at the beginning and end, are the smooth sailing. So, think of the actual song as a storm you pass through. Life has it's ups and downs. It will end, as it started.
How have you guys not reacted to Korns new album yet???? Also way behind on this album but sheesh Vin it's thelr best album they've had since... 1st album and Issues... Might be my personal number one from them now and that's saying a lot for 13 albums and 25 yrs.
