    I saw this luminescent wood once in my life when I was a lot younger. Maybe 16 years old. I was walking at night in the woods and saw those greenish lights on the ground. Looking closer I discovered that the light was emitting from small chunks of rotten wood laying on the ground. I picked up a couple to bring home and it stayed "lit" for the rest of the night but after that it never produced light again. Wikipedia says it's called Foxfire and it is "the bioluminescence created by some species of fungi present in decaying wood". Rare and beautiful :)

    Nothing is worse than being stuck in a cubicle or office when your heart is yearning for nature and being outdoors! I always had calendars and pictures of islands, the ocean, nature, and forests on all my walls at work. Even windows couldn't satisfy! lol I finally escaped by starting my own business and hiring others to do the work while I "work from home" and now live on 4 acres with my many animals and can take off whenever I want to get away. I'm glad CZcams has offered so many people a way to escape the rat race. Life is short, follow your bliss!

    Hi Lily. This video stands out among 'survival' or 'outdoor' videos. The bit about how you felt like being in a cage working as an accountant strikes a cord in me. I had had a similar experience. Similar because, being a keen hiker all my life, I quit what was then a well paid job which I had tried desperately to hold onto for 20+ years basically for the same reason. It was not easy. I think my 'yearning' for nature gave me strength to do so. This video brings out what I think is a very important message - the outdoor is not just physical or mental. It is also spiritual, if you are able to tune in. Thanks for your video. It tells me I am not alone. Keep up your good work.

I have used it to make :- black bean burritos with cabbage, sweet red pepper and carrots- pasta primavera- pesto pasta with shrimp and veggies- Scalloped potatoes with sausage, peas and carrots - beef stroganoffjust to name a few. Decadent camping menus could be another area for you to explore in your videos. Just a thought.

    Good video Lilly, you like to spend time in the forest sans the frills and convenience of modern objects. I have devoted most of my adult life to spending time in the mountains or woods where I have lived and taking the bare essentials for staying overnight or longer as needed. Sometimes I carried more items for my dog than I did for me.
    Regarding the glowing dead wood, here in N. America that is called "Foxfire" and is generated by a number of fungi of which I know little about. But I have seen this numerous times while guiding in Canada and it always strikes a note of wonder in my mind as to how little we have at our disposal and how much that little bit of nature can supply for us. I always have been fascinated by the flickering of fireflies and the eerie glow of Foxfire and have spent many wondrous hours in the north country watching the everchanging Aurora in the far northern skies during the late summer. I require very little to be entertained, I guess, but I always think that all of the simple little things found in nature add to the overall enjoyment of my life and it is all very reasonable in price for me to enjoy!

    Tarp camping is my favourite. A vertical stone next to your fire will funnel the smoke upwards and reflect heat towards you and you can sleep with it. Burn all food trash or be bait. Clear your camp so a breeze won't spread your camp fire. I love your passion and just want to help. We camp for the same reason. peace

    Really glad to hear the gluten-free diet is providing you with more energy. I hope this means that we get to see more videos! I appreciate the shout out and am very humbled by that. I certainly don't think I am smartest prepper but I try to keep an open mind and think things through although I still do have a lot of videos where I say to myself what the hell was I thinking a year later! Fortunately as I get older goes regrets become fewer and farther in between. As for your shelter construction that's pretty hardcore as usual I can battle the elements but I sure love my fully enclosed tent it's probably a bug thing! Yesterday we had our record temperature honesty ever recorded and forest fires have already begun. Last year it was so dry and some of the surrounding cities that power lines were malfunctioning Underground this was causing all sorts of fires. Well I don't like to be alarmist I think that the weather is clearly getting more extreme we have more fires and hotter days and it's only May. All the more reason to stay prepared.

Last April scored warmest April ever recorded in Austria. This summer is going to be insane I am sure.

      Please be aware that Gluten free diets are used to treat Celiac disease.
      The Mayo clinic recently released a study. Their findings were that if you did not have Celiac disease or any associated conditions. Gluten free diets can potentially be bad for your health and they should only be started after consultation with a medical professional.
      Be careful with your health. What you do today may affect you adversely in the future.

    • @lightotw
      @lightotw Před 6 lety +4

      Shawn R is right on. Gluten Free has been offered as an option to people in restaurants and stores like it is some health trend, and it is not. It is purely for a minority of people whose bodies have trouble with gluten. The symptom appears as becoming very tired after consuming anything made from regular wheat flour. For anyone else, gluten free can be a bad choice, because starch can be replaced by fat in some baked goods for example.

    • @SurvivalLilly
      @SurvivalLilly  Před 6 lety +1

      Shawn R gluten is not necessary for a healthy diet

    • @shawnr771
      @shawnr771 Před 6 lety +3

      You are correct that it is not necessary, however going on a gluten free diet without doing proper research can lead to problems.
      This is a link to the Mayo clinic. These are their opinions and findings NOT mine.
      You should check with your doctor or dietician before starting any diet.
      Also do proper research.
      www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/gluten-free-diet/art-20048530
      A gluten-free diet is essential for managing signs and symptoms of celiac disease and other medical conditions associated with gluten. A gluten-free diet is, however, popular among people without gluten-related medical conditions. The claimed benefits of the diet are improved health, weight loss and increased energy.
      Most clinical studies regarding gluten-free diets have been conducted with people who have celiac disease. Therefore, there is little clinical evidence about the health benefits of a gluten-free diet in the general population.
      Removing gluten from your diet likely changes your overall intake of fiber, vitamins and other nutrients. Therefore, regardless of your reasons for following a gluten-free diet, it's important to know how it can affect your overall nutritional needs.
      Your doctor or a dietitian can help you make appropriate dietary choices to maintain a well-balanced diet.

My son and I have loved your videos and you are partially responsible for our own CZcams channel, which is so small right now we cannot monetize, but we are growing fast and look forward to being successful. Our garden climate is much different than yours but we supplement and save money with our garden, and do not spend loads of money with fad gardening or expensive methods. We simple grow in raised beds and buckets, and consider ourselves mostly sustainable. We are not so much preppers, but would be prepared to be in a better circumstance than those with decorative lawns and swimming pools. Lilly, Great video! Here in the Southeast USA, back in the deep forests and mountains we have similar to what you found on the log. It is a type of fungus which grows on decaying wood in leaf litter on the forest floor. It only gives a very faint bluish/green luminescence, and then only when conditions of temp, moisture, etc, are right for it. The ole time mountain people called it "Fox Fire". I have seen it myself! And that is a little Bushcraft lore from the Georgia woods! Keep up the Good Work! Thanks, Don

    Back when I was in the Army at Fort Lewis in the mid 1990s, I made a shelter with my poncho quite a bit when out in the woods training. I used bungee cords instead of cords to tie down my poncho to a tree and tent spikes. Some of the best sleep I had in those days.

Again I ask who the hell do you think you are judging me.
