  • Heat mapping your Unifi Cameras with Design Center is a great way to visualize your camera coverage. By visualizing, it takes the guess work out of how many cameras you need to get the coverage you want. In this video, I work live on a project for a client and we add cameras to design center and talk about strategies for the process.

The Design Center is a really good service from unifi....

I just saw in EA that you will be able to export your Design Center setup and Import it into InnerSpace. This has been a very requested feature by the end users.

Good planning! I guarantee that the customer will be asking you for additional cameras based on what I see. I started with 5. One in each corner and one on the offset. Now up to 12 and 2 portable UI Wi-Fi cameras for other purposes and my house is only 1000SqFt with a couple offsets.
    Some thoughts:
    - The camera that is on the back of the garage leg facing the back yard, move it to the end of the garage leg facing the deck area. It will increase your area. Clarity will still be good
    - Angle the other one on the back of the house from facing the deck to more of a back yard view.
    - The driveway camera move it to the back end of the garage leg facing the same way. I am looking at my big screen display and my camera that is doing the same thing still has a great view.
    - The other camera on the driveway side, by the front of the house, angle slightly more toward the front yard.
    - I would recommend one additional camera in the front on the right side facing the front yard.
    - The camera that looks like it is on a lamp post, I would move to the front of the house (left side)and angle it toward the front yard.
    Possible issues:
    - Night time - These cameras have their visual distance substantially reduced and are not as clear. I would recommend that you suggest additional High-Intensity IT LED lights (Amazon - not expensive) facing each way from the house. This will extend the night vision and clarity of each camera.
    - Setup camera options for each of the cameras based on location. IE.. Driveway has both detection for "Person and Car" forget "Pets" as being in the country they will drive them crazy at 2AM. I have two camera settings, on regular programmed and a Global setting for night. During the day, I use each camera's program individually, some with person. Then after "SUNSET" I use the GLOBAL camera settings and I have "Person" detection set to "ON" for all the cameras, with "Notifications" activated.
    - One last thing try not to have any cameras facing each other as the IR will blind them.
I based this on my installation. Not perfect, but it is a work in progress.
The owner will fall into the "Unifi Trap" phrase coined by a very good You-tuber in a previous video. Did the customer order the UFP - ViewPort (HDMI) device for displaying on a monitor/TV? Well worth the money!
    Good Luck!

The Unifi Trap...LOL. So True. All good info so thanks for sharing. It sounds like to me that you may need a CZcams channel to talk about your experience. It is funny that you mentioned the ViewPort. I bought one quite a while back and never even unboxed the thing. I may have to mess with that and do a video on it.
Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts and experience.

@@ethernetblueprint LOL, no CZcams channel for me. I am retired, 75 and working on so many projects down here. I figure you are doing a GREAT job no need for me. A video on setting up Protect camera options and the Global option would be a good one. The only problem with being retired is that you do not get the weekends off anymore.

I am working on an 8 part series for Unifi and the last 2 videos in that will be for Unifi Protect... I will be sure to cover some of the global settings that I typically have set...

Do not cut off any excess cable. Just push the excess back into the wall or attic. That way, if you need to move the cable or rematch the end, you will have the cable available.

Good tip... I have had where that is difficult to do with spray foam, but yes, that would be best option #1.

Hey Tim, question for you, can I hire you to remote in and set up my VLANs and firewall rules for my UniFi network? I looked but didn't see a way to contact you directly, outside of CZcams. I have a pretty basic setup: (UCG-Ultra, USW-24-PoE switch & 2 U6 Lite APs). Everything's already installed and up and running. I just need some help and would like to pay you for your time and expertise.
