Wire Wrapping Tutorial - Mini Micro Cab Wraps, One Wire, Beginner

- Learn this easy, one wire, cabochon wire wrap for all your small to tiniest stones without holes! This wrap is designed for cabochons that are 10mm to 6mm in size with a thickness of about 4mm. The wire gauge recommended is 18 gauge, which is large enough to 'tension' or 'pressure' wrap these mini stones and hold them securely. I call these Mini and Micro cab wraps components because they can be used for many things in your jewelry making! Add these to hooks and they become earrings! Add a jump ring and turn these into cute little chocker pendants! Use them as charms for your favorite beaded necklace or bracelet! Enjoy the inspiration!
If you use a larger stone (up to 1 inch round) ... I recommended sizing your wire up to 16 gauge or decide to wire weave the coils. On a larger stone, the coil tension might not be strong enough to securely hold your stone in place.
I sell my wire wrapped and wire weaved jewelry in my Etsy store along with some PDF wire weaving tutorials. Thanks for your continued support! www.etsy.com/shop/PerfectlyTwisted

Great Job
Thank you!
I LOVE this! I make lil tiny, and big, resin gems and cabs and I have been struggling with ways to incorporate a way to be able to attach them onto a chain or something. I've put a tiny loop on an eye pin and cut it so I could stick it into the resin as I cure it as well as free formed wire bezels with a loop and filled with resin. Well this will help my alot. Thank you.
Thank you for your lovely comment, Charley! Enjoy!

Perfectly Twisted Jewelry I am absolutely going to do this I can never get Cabachon wrapped right and I love this
I wish I could share with you guys my first attempt at this😂 You make it look so easy😳...I’m thinking I’d rather do my insane wire weaving than this😂. Absolutely beautiful though! Yours that is!😂 I’m not going to give up though! Ty for these tutorials!
You can do it! You can also find me on FB if you want to share an image? Otherwise, keep trying, it works out after a few times ;) Have fun mostly. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Sweet!
Thanks Ann! Enjoy it!
Super👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing… I am still trying to build up my confidence with wire wrapping😅
You can do it! Thanks for watching!!🙏❤️🙏❤️
Thank you 😊 lovely ❤️🤟
Thank you too! Enjoy Tish!
Very nice demo, thank you! What a creative way to highlight small stones and make them sparkle.
You seem to be wasting a lot of wire though, I'd keep the wire shorter to start with.
I'm thinking if you wrap like a bonbon with a bail on both ends, you can attach them easily for wire beaded necklace. It would add some sparkle to a beaded necklace with copper chain and jump rings and even daisy caps on beads.😍
Thank you! Cheers!
I'm going to give this a try fingers x 🤞
Thank you! Have fun!🙏🌷🌟
Been looking for a way to create a resin keepsake pendant without having to use a bezel. This looks perfect. Wish me good luck
I can't wait to see that! I love the idea of your resin cabs! Best of luck! You got this!💕⚘️
Si beautiful thanks Ms 😘🙏🙏 love ❤️🇨🇴🌹
You are so welcome, thank you too, Sonia!
Fantastic ,thanks.
I have never done anything like this before, but I did 60 and I donated to my granddaughters school, we sold them for $5. I am having so much fun. Thanks again.
That is awesome! Thanks for your comment, enjoy!
Love this.. I’m definitely going to try :) my only question is about the sharp cut ends like do we need to sand them or something
You can always sand the ends to make it clean, yes. Thank you for asking! I hope you enjoy the project!
I may try something like this for a round marble.
Hi Sherrie! This is a good wrap but I'm not sure it will be the best for a marble... what about taking a look at this one, I did a tutorial for a marble, specifically, so maybe this one will help also, enjoy!. czcams.com/video/PtRbcDGp98A/video.html
I Love these.........tried making something this way awhile ago....except.....i thought id have to add thinner wire to join each turn....so yeh never worked eh.......lol......so now I know u don't....Thank you so Much for this....I really Love ur wire Art............Take Care.......Hugssss
Thanks Kim, enjoy!! The 18g wire is strong enough most times if the stone stays small like in my tutorial, if you go larger, you can wrap around one additional time or go bigger wire like 16g. Have fun!
Nice ❤️🇩🇰
Very well done! It’s beautiful and I love it that you used your hands doing most of the forming. Do you think this would work with gemstones that are calibrated but don’t have a hole in the top?
It should, this is a cabochon wrap, none of the stones had holes in them. :D Enjoy!
I love your tutorials and I am definitely going to try these. Question, what would be the biggest cabochon you could use for this design? I have several larger cabs and wondering if the same technique would work. Thank you again for your videos.
This technique works well for larger stones too... this one, maybe up to 15mm... see my tutorial called Quinn if you need a wrap for larger stones. Let me know if this helps or if you have more questions 🙏💞
This is SO CUTE! I'm always trying to think of simple designs for mini pendants and I can't wait to try this one. One question - would you suggest hammering any part of the wire during the process so that it's extra secure? Or maybe adding some half round to connect the wires? I know 18g is pretty sturdy but I'm always worried about stones falling out over time haha. Thank you so much for the tutorial! :)
Hi Briana, these are great questions... the stones I'm showing are very small so the 18g wire is sturdy enough and if you have a deep stone, then you could always do one more coil than I show in the tutorial... if you get the wire over the shoulders of the stone, it will stay in. If you are worried, you can certainly tie them together either by weaving or by half round, but if you intend this then make sure to make the coil a bit looser so you have room for the extra wires. I hope that helps! I can't wait to hear about what you do! If you use a larger stone, then you could consider stepping up to 16g and again, maybe doing 4 coils plus a spiral onto the stone to hold it in... and also a bit of weave if you're going a lot larger. This wrap is intended for super small stones, with no weight, so the wire, turning that tightly will harden enough and should be secure. Have fun! Let me know how it goes. :) Thanks for your comment!
I used a similar design all the time for small stones and I haven't lost any yet ( and I am tough on my jewelry lol). When I'm really concerned about stability I use square wire, I find it's a little more sturdy plus the corners give it some grab.
@@amberm2777 These are great tips, Amber, thank you for your comment!
Special transparent glue, just a bit...
Thank you 😊
Lovely
No hammering ? I’m going to try ! 🤟🏻❤️
Wonderful!
Thank you so much for your video! ❤️ can I use dead soft wire?
Yes, all of my wire is dead soft. Thanks and have fun!
Hello dear, thank you so much for this video I learned alot 😍, which one should I use? The half hard or dead soft?
Thanks again! ❤️
Hi Wejdan! For this small of a stone, I would use the dead soft wire, which is what I'm using in the video. You could use dead soft for stones up to 8mm even. I only use dead soft wires in all of my work. I hope that helps!
Hi I was wondering if do u use diamond gems only I've a diamond cute amethyst that I lost the the ring to how would I secured it in a pendant love ur jewelry
Thanks so much! I am not taking customs right now, but there are several videos that might work for your Amethyst if you're thinking to wrap it yourself.
Wowww😍😘
Thanks!
Great tutorial! I love how the wire shape forms a treble clef :)
🎼
If I want to use sterling silver instead of copper do you recommend using a different gauge or hardness than what you showed here? I have several 5-8mm stones I want to wrap.
Thanks for your comment Andrew! For 5 to 8mm stones, I like to use 18g wire. Since they are small, I also prefer using Dead soft wire because it will shape elegantly but still large enough that the stone should capture just fine. If you feel you need to secure it more, then perhaps weave a few stitches into the sides around the stone, but I haven't needed that for stones up to 8mm at 18g.
The treble clef is a great idea! :) Have fun.
@@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry awesome, thanks for your reply and advice! I’ll see how how it goes :)
We stayed an extra 2 days in WA just to collect all the sea glass we could. And variety of rocks.
What a great time, it sounds! Have fun wrapping those treasures up!
👍👍
I wish you could tell me what size why are you started with being new to this it's hard for me to gauge through what I'm watching a how much why are you start with, please tell me. And thank you in advance
Hi there! Materials and tools are always listed in the first 10 seconds of each video I make.
Timestamp 00:03 ... the sizes are all there, thanks for watching and enjoy!
Can you use this method on raw, asymmetrical stones?
You could probably use the technique to some degree, but it would be hard to say without seeing your stone. For this tutorial, I show it on a calibrated, small round or oval cabochon. Thanks for asking Amelia! I always just go for it and see how some things turn out, it might be a beautiful surprise!
I LOVE this, can this technic be done with a pointed back crystal?.. new subscriber here 😀
Thanks for subscribing, welcome! It can... given that the point isn't too deep, I think that if it's too deep and you coil up... it will 'spin' around on the chain since it will be pointy in the back. Just heads up on that... otherwise, it should! Have fun!
@@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Thank you so much for responding.. I've inherited a ton of faceted gemstones and I just want to make use of them and turn them into something special.. so I'm learning all that I can 😀
Awesome Donna! I hope you enjoy! Let me know when / if you have questions.
