  • I went out for an overnight backpacking trip in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire.
    I hit the 4,000 footer peaks of Willey and Field and spent the night at the Ethan Pond Campsite.
    The side trip to Thoreau Falls was amazing!

    Nice one, I really like the music. Those old RR beds in the Pemi make for great trails. Back in the 60's and 70's the old ties were still there but the steel rails were long gone.

    im so glad I found your chan. I lived in the MWV for over 25 years and just recently moved to mid-coast maine, so seeing those mountains, valleys and the beauty of my old stomping grounds is amazing and nostalgic for me, thank you! ( p.s. Most locals call it "Willie" like when you get the willies - supposedly thats where the saying actually came from due to the sad story of the Willey's and a massive mudslide/landslide in 1826)

    Please keep hiking and making videos. I have learned a lot from you! Thankyou.

    Hiked this area and those hills some years ago, before the ladders on the Willey Range Trail were there. It was kinda sketchy going up that grade and there were few options when I got near the top - had to jump over to a small 'ledge; from the top of that grade. There were also, at that time, some serious 'widow-makers' along that same trail, before the ladders. And, by the way, it's usually pronounced Willey - as in silly. Nice video. Thanks for sharing, but I'm not completely certain what sort of a 'loop' you did(which trails). I'm guessing you went from the Willey Range Trail turning left on the A - Z Trail, turned left on the AT and continued past the junction that leads to the Zealand Falls Hut, hiking below and past Whitewall, ending up at the campsite. Unfortunately, I'm too damned old to hike/backpack any more - sure do miss it.

    I went hiking with my Labrador retriever some years back and getting to the ladder section someone asked me how will your dog get up those ladders? Well, I hadn't thought about that so I had to pick up my 60 lb dog and take her up the ladders. Back down from my pack and return was quite the effort. That day was not a hike smarter not harder day.

    Hmm.. I’m at the point in my hiking life that I prefer to avoid the trails you like.. The shame is that many trails that don’t end at a peak you can post about on Facebook are in danger of going extinct.. there’s even a section of the AT that skirts around Madison that feels like it’s being reclaimed by the krumholtz.

    • @SmithFarmTilton
      @SmithFarmTilton Pƙed 2 lety +1

      At least here in NH, the black bears are generally harmless, and prefer not to be bothered. If you come face to face with one, they will head in the other direction. Two exceptions are a mother with cubs, or if they feel challenged while eating.... then you do your best to avoid them. Most people don't bother with bear spray in these parts, because it generally isn't needed.
