- QT & co. converted several blocks on Hollywood Blvd into 1969 for #onceuponatimeinhollywood and were kind enough to invite us neighborhood folks to watch on. With the movie releasing soon, I thought I'd slap together what footage I gathered for your viewing pleasure. Music by the Daily Pravda.

The best part of this movie is that, for nearly three hours, you're transported to 1969.
I agree. After watching the movie I was like, how did they do that? Every shot was 1969 including wide shots of freeways.
Except to go through all that and flubbed the ending. And get that the Manson family were hippies wrong. They were not. They were just a right-wing racist cult and crooks.
@@bowtie3 I don't think so. Right wingers in 1969 had crew cuts and wore ties. The Manson family were long-haired, tie-dye wearing, dumpster-diving stoners with contempt for authority and affluence. They were the opposite of right wing.
@Joe town It must have been the best time in our nation's history to be a young adult.
@Joe town I couldn't agree any more. Males and females assumed roles more aligned with the actual laws of nature rather than this feminist nonsense encouraging females to have big mouths leaving many men never to marry. Also, look at all the great muscle cars that were produced in 1969. Today, guys think their bad-ass driving in tiny little electric cars. Please, take me back to 1969!!!!
I would LOVE to watch a documentary on the making of this movie.
1MinuteFlipDoc will probably be on the Blue Ray DVD special edition uncut version with deleted scenes and all that
"THE MAKING OF"
Yes !!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
A movie about a movie about making movies
Debora O wtf yessss I forgot
“Because we love making movies!” If only all directors were that way 😥
... Your dad would have produced, right?
The amount of effort that went into this film is mind blowing. I'm going to reward this effort by seeing it over and over again while it's in the theaters and then buying the DVD. I've seen it once so far and can't stop thinking about it, which is always the measure of a film's quality. Tarrantino is a genius and this is his masterpiece.
Into this film? Do you know how much effort was put in Birth of Nation? This movie isn't an exception just because Tarantino is a director.
@@sawrado375 True. It's exceptional because it's a great movie. Not all of Tarantino's films have been exceptional but this one is.
Carl Childers I agree!! I saw it on Sunday and I can’t wait to see it again
Saw it twice and plan to see it again this weekend. So much texture; a great slow burn of a movie.
@@3hooks781 The Spawn Ranch and final scenes are awesome.
QT is smoking Hans Landa's pipe and wearing the crew jacket made for Inglourious Basterds.
Sherlock Holmes pipe
But the question of the hour is
"WHAT" is he "Smoking" in Hans' "PIPE"?
StL Busker good ol’ crack cocaine
i was looking for this comment lol xD
Who’s the cutie?
Someone should make a town to look like this as a holiday destination where you can just sort of mince about in the 60's for a week. Hire an old car and just drive around amongst other people doing the same thing.
@Burleon I wonder how long people could cope without it! xD
@John Fisher True, though cellphones are kind of a lifeline in the event of an emergency. A themed town like this would still work though, even with people carrying around cellphones. I wonder how popular a place like that would be? ..a sort of Disneyland for adults. I'd go!
Great idea not just the 60s but many other eras. Would be even better if there were people willing to live as if they were in the 60s and make a whole town
@@s1050 That's commitment! Though I've no doubt there are no shortage of people that would, I'd even go as far as saying a lot of people would do it for free!
Would it have "whites-only" water fountains and bathrooms? Or will it take place in the North and in the late 60s?
Seen it twice. Going to see it again this weekend. Best movie of the year by far.
Travis McCutchan Hell yeah dude, I seen it 4 times already! Might go for 1 more before they take it out the movies in a few weeks
I'd have to say Parasite is definitely the best film of the year so far. Definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.
Same here, wondering if Scorsese´s The Irishman will take this title :D
This explains why movies could cost $50M, $100M , $150M, etc.
Opening Ceremony dumbass
This movie cost 400 million
I heard it was $90 mil.
James McDonagh Naw, you’re just being a plain and simple dumb shit!!!
@@softbatch1 It was. 400M is fake.
Love the Call Of Duty sign at 3.00..... really takes you back to a different era.
jack reed 😂😂😂
It’s sure does lol
The public doesn’t realize how painstaking it is to make a great film .Every choice and decision is important to the outcome and the possibilities are endless . I Love the length of his films because you can really escape into the characters and story ..
This is real film making no green screen bs
The attention to detail is mind boggling. He's a friggin genius.
@Nice Try really? How come
I think those that don't like the movie just don't get it. And that's OK, but doesn't mean t/movie sucks. You have to use some imagination & think outside of the box & appreciate a director who has done just that! The movie is a masterpiece!
Wow! It's like going to sleep in 2019 and waking up in 1969, you're transported to that era it's mind blowing!
It’s really amazing how much time, resources and effort something like this takes. You literally have to turn the dial back; add and dress extras, bring in cars and props from the era, change the buildings, divert traffic then schedule shooting. Blows my mind. It’s all worth it of course..everyone I’ve met who’s seen this movie praised it.
08:30 everything is 1969 until COD BO 4 came out, lol
Tukang Katuk
Naw bro, that the extra, extra, extra, extra, extra, extra, extra! Early access.
7:19 OMG Quentin is smoking with the same pipe that Hans Landa has in Inglourious Basterds. (and the same as Sherlock Holmes)
I remember being on set as an extra for Malcolm X. 3rd avenue and 122nd street was turned into 1960s era 125th street in Harlem. It was the same level of detail; truly breath taking. I visit LA often and I regret not being around to witness the transformation of the blvd. Great video.
A foreigner once said to me (regarding The Price is Right) "American's are the only people I know you are genuinely happy when some else that they don't even know wins at something"
I grew up in LA and watched Q's coming up. I can remember every job I was on as he dropped each new flick. He has LA closed down dressed up and he is on top doing his thing.
So very proud of you man!
Oh my God this takes me back so much! I grew up in the 60s and everything looks so brand new.
Yes, and not one single car looks like it needs a wash.
This is what makes Tarantino so good, he does almost everything with practical effects instead of CGI.
Thanks for sharing, I was 13yrs old so I do remember a little of Hollywood back in the day, great memories!
This is one of my favorite films of all time, perfectly captures the 1960’s, Tarantino is an absolute mastermind
"BECAUSE, we LOVE making movies!!!"😁🤗👌📽️🎬
Quentin loves movies!
That's why he's damn GENUIS at making EM'!
Well done, who said time travel isn't possible, this is what movie making was meant to be. 1969 was a benchmark year. I plan on buying the DVD to support this movie and to take in all the detail.
I would have loved to be an extra on this movie
Could of been so easy to use green screen/cgi,, and cheaper,,,, however,,the results for the set to look just like 1969 was off the chart. We need more film makers like QT to keep arts and crafts folks,, who are so talented, to be kept in work. My hat off to QT.
One gets a good sense of how much Quentin Tarantino is in control of the set. Outside of the his script, this is probably what makes his movies so consistently good.
As the credits rolled & the tone shifted into a melancholy mood, I took one last drag on my cigarette & collected my coat & hat & hailed a cab. The streets of L.A. were darker than usual with something more than the night.
Cool to see this kind of stuff. One issue I have with films and old cars, is they're always spotless. Nothing has a speck of dirt on it. That's unrealistic.
@@awesomeone2979
Not ever car would be clean, where's the banged up cars?
The filthy cars with different coloured panels etc the absolute shit heaps blowing smoke
It's amazing how much work goes in details you see for less than a second in the movie
Best picture academny award goes to OUATIH. Best director also
This transports me back to when I was 7 years old.
The eye for detail is outstanding.
The amount of detail is insane
I bet being on Quentin’s sets is like a wonderland
2001: A Space Odyssey and Black Ops 4 in one frame. Damn.
This is by far THE BEST behind-the-scenes footage I've seen. I was there for the two October shoots and yes, you are literally put in a time warp just standing around the set. And the amazing thing is after having seen OUATIH four times now, the boulevard set only shows up in about three or four brief, day and night driving scenes. Nonetheless, the QT spared very little and essentially got every period detail exact. And not surprisingly, the finished movie is quite spectacular.
Wow, Thank you so much for this video! Share more if you have it!!
I can understand why this movie was so expensive to make. All those people and all that equipment costs money, plus the payouts to the property owners, city licenses, and police department costs.
$90m is a standard Tarantino price tag, around the same as Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained
@@hasselett Django and IB were made with just $90m? That's surprising, I assumed they were way more expensive, especially Django
@@TobyHonest420 Yeah, I'm also surprised Django wasn't more expensive to make. Then again, 90 million is a fucking fortune haha
It’s amazing how far he’s come from Reservoir Dogs production wise. That movie was shot in one location for the most part and had almost no production budget.
@@s1050 Yeah, that was only like 1.5 mill! And like half of that was lent by Harvey Keitel and others!
Great footage expertly shot.
QT brought back my childhood with the scenes and SOUNDS ("93 KHJ, Golden....") etc
Its so many details. I did not realize certains billboard like 2001 and the doors concert
Wish I had a time machine and get in this movie... this and Wolf of Wall Street... hopefully epic movies like this will continue to be made!
This is great. Love and miss you my friend.
I think this is my new favorite Leonardo DiCaprio movie. I ❤️Ed it . It was amazing!
Nice Try ?
Quentin has Hans Landa's pipe from Inglourious Basterds! I guess that it's his personal pipe?
But the big question is "WHAT'S" he have "IN" that old "PIPE"
Loved every minute of the movie...
One mistake I did discover when I saw the film on Friday AM.... when Sharon (Margot) enters the theatre in Westwood to see her film "The Wrecking Crew", the Ann-Margret film "CC & Company" is playing on the screen. I'm friends with Ann-Margret, and know her films quite well... in fact, this film was written by her husband, Roger Smith. The premiere date for "CC" was October 14, 1970, in New York City. The actual filming of "CC & Company" began on April 13, 1970. However, the time period in "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" was from February, 1969 through August 9, 1969... more than a year before the film was released to the public.
Nice catch! Did u like the movie overall? We are little late with movies out here so I gotta wait till August.
@@Te0dosko ... yes, I really enjoyed it. I would actually see it again. The attention to detail is impeccable, except for the Ann-Margret film error. I can only imagine how pissed Tarantino would be if he knew this!
@@AnnMargretFan Makes me even more hyped, thank you!
@Jimmy Short One "possible" mistakes I noticed, was the advertisement for the Fright Night with Seymour show. I believe that show debuted in 1970, not 1969.
That sounds like MAYBE they figured the young ones would just see “old” & “someone” wanted to pay homage to Ann-Margaret or Roger Smith? Not thinking at all about people actually “fact checking” some of this??
Greatest Tarantino since Pulp Fiction, RIP Sharon Tate
Said no one ever, this movie was dull and boring without any witty dialogue
My number four for me since Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill for me.
Atl Native
Many people says that its one of his best.
Because it appeared dull and boring to you, doesn’t mean it was like that for real.
That’s just your opinion.
Andy T
Well he said that like it was a fact, not an opinion.
So yeah, wouldn’t hurt clarifying
Andy T
Jesus Christ, you must be fun at parties
Two blocks shut down for 4 days. All shops etc. retro fitted to the finest detail, all for Brad Pitt to speed by in his car for 5 seconds of screen time.
That is insane!
Saw it w my wife last night. Big QT fan, and this did not disappoint. Great great movie. Classic QT if you’re a fan and understand what he’s doing. Go see it and support him.
So cool to see behind the scenes. Thank you very much for posting!
The attention to detail is mind blowing. Astounding job by the crew and cast. Even better, no CGI! Once is not enough to truly appreciate it. I can’t wait for the DVD.
I love seeing the behind the scenes work. Helped work on one movie and one documentary. Love how bare bones it looks, but it all comes down to editing and post.
it must be unbelievable cool to make part of this team
Holy mother of production design. Amazing!
Was that the pipe from Inglorious Bastards? 7:19
Yes, I noticed that also. I think you could be correct. Totally cool if so.
Great video. Thanks for uploading!
Nice thanks for posting this 😃
Awesome footage of this great movie,
Watched it twice,
Bravo, well done
Dude i did the whole 60's look for christmas. Real leather jacket from 65 and a flannel from 64. I got hella compliments on my style🔥
Wow great video!!! Amazing experience to be there right in the thick of it! Lucky!
Thanks for posting was fun to watch the process
Film making at it's BEST!!😁
Thx QUENTIN 😎👍
@Nice Try Ya! LIke you can do better ! 🙄
Ain't Social Media great... geeezz🤨
really interesting to watch this, thank you
I Love it! Great Job Quentin Tarantino!! Thank you!
Now I have to look up "Three In The Attic" to remind myself what happens in that movie.
They could have done most of this in CG and it would have looked almost as good. Almost. Thank you QT not faking it and settling for "almost". Bravo.
I heard a car turning over and not starting!!! Totally accurate as this was common!! Lol
incredible work, Salute Tarantino
I love the old RTD buses. Reminds me of riding the RTD with my mom in the 70’s to DTLA.
So much effort went into this my god
Thank you! ✌️
Wow amazing work.
A period piece without CGI
1:14 you are not allowed to use your cellphone on a tarantino set
How much more real was the world then. This was a long movie that could have gone on all afternoon for me.
8:47 Thats the pipe from Inglorious Bastards.
Check out his Jacket too. That was made for the crew on Basterds and it has ‘Inglorious Basterds’ in red across the back.
those rigs they made on the
cars. mad respects to the production team!
Those car mount rigs are pretty much standard gear, it just takes a little grip magic to put the camera exactly where the Director and DP want it and secure it for safety.
So much attention to detail. QT is the greatest.
Quel perfectionnisme! Le film mérite d'être autant réussi
8:33 that laugh, lol
Thank you!
Who knew Rams Player Rosie Greer had his own show?... Not me.
@kevin james Really? How long did it run for?
As I sat in the theater wondering how they made it look like 1969. Lol...I remember the yellow city buses. Very meticulous and well thought out. Good job.
If it wasn't a Tarantino film, they would have done it with cgi. This is real and alive.
This is so cool to see how they make movies.
It's actually really boring, hours of standing around and not much happening for a few seconds of useable footage
QT 👑🙌🏽
Thanks!!!
0:19 - "Go-Go Swinger / $10.95". These wig ads wouldn't have been blown up to poster size for store windows; they would only have appeared small, in magazines. These actually look like they were just reproduced from the cover of the Rolling Stones album, "Some Girls".
Notice that the camera car chassis used to haul around Brad Pitt's blue car is the very popular 1973 -1978 GMC Motorhome chassis - like the one used in Bill Murray's movie Stripes. 455 Chevrolet V8, front wheel drive, 6 wheeler.
That's way cool you could identify that! I know exactly what you're talking about. They had the Toronado front drive set-up. A couple of the cars were a little off, like the '71/2 El Camino, and the '63 Ford cop car.
I don't think you'd see a 6 yr old cop car pretty much ever. Couple other little things too, but wow overall!
I remember last year I saw an old bus stop near Las Palmas, but I didn’t know it would be in a back in time movie.
Never stop making movies!
What a production! 5 star movie BTW!!!
3.03 1971/72 chevy el camino 😅. Great film, great double Lp soundtrack.
Huge production
Look at those sweet classic cars!!
Great ending on this video!
I wonder how long did it took to record everything, so much work put into one scene just amazing
Yes the detail is amazing but they missed the old street lights which were rectangle.
Upon finding this out...Quentin is just pissed!
Whenever i see these time period recreations ; one thing is always missing --Dirt. Things are way to clean and shiny
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.
There was no dirt in 1969
Dirt wasn’t invited yet
True, every car looks like it just returned from the car wash.
In the joker trailer all the scenes look pretty gritty
