Please tell them to have a feature for Uber drivers, where it can record continuous in the cabin, instead of only recording for 10sec and going back to front view.
Hello, the kit 4G is working in UK?
it was the disapproving mouth position the spelt your intention . . . brilliantly executed
A nice change from the traditional dash cams but the 360 degree claim is a bit spurious imho. Yes it can spin around the full 360 but it doesn't capture full 360, only where it happens to be pointing at the time.
Having had dash cams installed over the last 5 years or so I see the biggest problem with this set up is any rear view will be obstructed by any rear passengers/luggage and of course the driver will cause a blind spot. The best option from experience is to have a two camera set-up of which there are various options. We recently had our new car fitted professionally and it is very tidy with no wires flapping about.
Hi Pete, I am a firm believer in high quality dash cams. We now have our sixth installation since 2008. We were driving on the M25 in a Porsche Boxster, all lanes doing 65 mph. Three vehicles ahead of us a truck dropped som aluminium strip that damaged our car. We realised that unless you have a serious accident on the motorway, you have no witnesses. We were deemed got be at fault.
We always have fitted Black Hue, front and rear and feel vulnerable until they are fitted to our car or if we rent a car. I bought a new Porsche and they said that third party cameras would invalidate some warranty, so we bought theirs. We have just bought a BMW for my wife and they now have a clip on system for the car, and a set fee for the BMW camera. There is no point buying a cheap dash cam. They need to be excellent quality in all lighting conditions. It's like buying good insurance. I won't leave home without it. Good review. I hope it makes people think about how important they are.
That nightime video is amazing, love the animation, love the mean looking face, the features seam to be way above most kit available, great one Pete
The night vision really is very good 👍
Thanks Pete, great video. I have been considering getting a dash Cam again as my last one years ago was a bit rubbish, but this looks leaps and bounds better.
Glad I could help 👍
Great video mate I'll show my dad this
When I recently changed my insurance I was asked if I had a dash cam. I’ve always been of the opinion that most people who seemed to have them were exactly the people that end up appearing on these CZcams video clips!!
However - after a very enlightening drive to London a couple of weeks back, I’m now leaning towards having one as a security device against other people’s appalling driving.
👍
I've been using a dash cam for 12 years now, from before they were even called dash cams. One important note when fitting to the windscreen is to ensure that the cameras view is in an area swept by the wipers otherwise the cameras view will be impaired by the rain. The 360 degree feature is a bit of a gimmick really, I suspect that once the novelty wears off the camera will remain in the forward view position.
Great product, i will take one soon, thank you Pete
Enjoy!
Peter…I have had a dash cam for over ten years and now feel quite vulnerable if I drive something without one. Remarkably I recorded an RTA on the second day I had one capturing a young man running away from his mothers Golf which he had stolen, got drunk and then spun taking out three parked cars. The Police were surprised and grateful but as I had never downloaded anything from it before, there was a panic that it had been “wiped” but the Police forensics found it and used it as evidence gaining his conviction. (they kept the SIM for 6 months though!). I use Drive Pro and every one has been faultless…not a failure even once with 4K day and night imaging. Your camera has a lot of clever features but I do wonder about the spinning lens in rear end attacks…mine records front and back simultaneously including the inside/passengers. I’m having a new one fitted to the Puma but will look carefully at yours. Stay safe…give the loonies plenty of room! 😰😀😀😀😀Richard😊
Wow 😯
A very interesting & informative video really enjoyable well done 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Thats a good bit of kit
Very interesting review video I’ve always been unsure of these thought they were more a social media gimmick thing. However, I can see with this particular one a lot of really cool useful features so when I get my new Ford Ranger Wildtrak one of these will be definitely fitted.
Great to hear 👍
Great video.
Thanks!
Great crime face while walking around the car Pete :). I have the latest Nextbase 622GW with an attached rear cam which, in the event of someone running into the back of me, will capture the incident immediately as opposed to this one which would only capture it if it was rear facing at the time. Some insurers will give a discount for dash cam users. Great video as ever.
See me next on Crimewatch 😂
Hi Ped! Thanks for the great review. I'm struggling between using only a camera in the front or going with dual channel system to add a camera in the back as well. Since it's been 3 weeks since you posted this, have you found any new pros or cons to using this device?
A good looking camera.I like the parked up feature a lot.Makes you think.
Sure does 👍
The one safety feature my car is missing is road traffic sign recognition and I would have loved to see that on this unit. Many dash cams have this today and unfortunately, even though I wanted the 360 of this unit, I will be going for something else with RTS as that will be very useful for me as a long distance driver constantly visiting different towns for the very first time.
Well what a very interesting review from your good self & a very good one too & Wow what a dashcam that is hope you will do a more in depth review maybe once you have used it for a while & i like you have never really bothered with a dashcam but this I could be very interested in!! 😁Great review as usual PetrolPed Pete? 👌🏻👍🏻😁
Thanks, will do!
I’m impressed with this, very. 👍👍🇬🇧🤔
Great video and product. The individual options it offer go far beyond basic dashcams. Hard wiring would be best for this dashcams to use all beneficial features. The picture quality is brilliant, especially in the dark. I would agree with other comments for rear facing though. I've had dashcams fitted for years now and had to use as evidence on a few occasions. Like you, after watching dashcams crashes on CZcams, I have fitted seperate rear facing also. You never know when you'll need it and again, like you say, everyone is after a claim these days. Great product and worth the investment, even better if they paired it with a small rear facing camera also 👌
Cheers Rod 👍
Hi Ped
I also shared your initial view on dash cams, but having been forced off road by overtaking car in face if oncoming traffic, I changed my mind, and now have NextBase on both daily drivers. Not hardwired installation as you have done on the Henry car. When I had my 911 I was informed that if I hard wired dash cam the warranty would be invalidated, but no further advice! When I updated my SQ5 had dash cam hard wired by specialist, very neat. Some 8 months on warranty claim on control unit on the car, resulting in side trims being removed to gain access to wiring. Following completion dash cam had intermittent fault. Audi dealer would not accept responsibility, and also claimed specialist fitting dash cam had damaged control unit.🤔 cost me £170 😬
Ouch 😣
See more and more of them around now. That one seems very good quality too! 👍🏻🇨🇦🍻
For sure!
Nextbase has the plug in rear facing camera. Does the 70 Mai have a permanent rear facing camera, otherwise not exactly omni
I need a dash cams for my camaro. Great video sir Pete
Thanks bud 👍
My dash cam has saved me and Mrs ZT and our son in our cars £1000’s over the years…especially in one incident when a driver rolled back on a hill into my sons car and then tried to blame him for rear ending him! Plus has helped others when we have witnessed accidents
Nice to hear 👍
Hi, if the camera is facing forward at the time of of rear bump I don't see how this helps? Yes it is a 360 degree camera but only one direction at a time. The rear view is also could be very restricted. I have a front and rear camera setup on my car. Personally I'm not a great fan of how it looks either .
Hey Wow Pete that is a pretty awesome device , I think i want one. Very clear images and sound too. Is that "Shifty Ped mode" when in surveillance? You looked the shifty sort mate when walking around it 😂😂😂😂
I was putting on my Crimewatch face 😂
For years, I've had a traditional dashcam that provides HD quality images and only cost around £50. The Omni is more than three times that price but actually appears to be worth every penny given its far superior capabilities.
Indeed 👍
Worth there weight in gold. I use a Nextbase unit 👍
My BMW uses its 360 degree built in cameras for the dash cam, its always amazes me that more manufactures don't use the cameras as well. They are permanently on but only record when asked or if you are in an accident and then it's something like 20 seconds before and after the incident.
I had an accident a few years ago in a previous car where the other driver after cutting me up on roundabout failed to stop. It was only the fact I had a dash cam that I got their registration. Mind you in spite of all the evidence the police were completely disinterested and the other parties insurance company hung us out for nearly two years until we established a court date and then they paid my excess and the the repair costs that were over £10k. So make sure you have a dash cam and legal insurance as well.
100%. More and more cars are getting 360 cams for parking as the tech gets cheaper so it just makes so much sense to use them for dash cam duties.
Wow 👍
Interesting film Pete. I'm guessing many cars could offer this functionality using their own surround cameras and a software solution, I bet BMW for instance would love to be able to charge their customers a monthly subscription 😊
Maybe 👍
I believe in some or all of the tesla's you can fit your own usb stick and it uses the cars cameras
Looks a good product. I'm surprised you don't have a dashcam with all the driving you do, but them swapping from car to car would be a challenge. Looks like this could be the answer... Cheers
Exactly 👍
Hello pal, we have a Nextbase in the Shogie, Helga and Rudy. Yes they are a little clumsy to look at, however, the hassle they could save, well, they are invaluable, thus offsetting the looks. 👍👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks for the info!
Just ordered one for my New Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe All Black which I pick up on Friday 3rd March. Thanks for the great video. I was wondering if I should get one.
You must be buzzing. Enjoy the new car 👍
Also, the ‘recording 5sec before collision’ isn’t quite right- dash cams are constantly recording and over recording, but in a collision event it auto stores the 5 seconds before the event.
The Advanced Eye system I got added to my 5 Series was the easiest install ever…….I just got BMW to install the lot, wired into the car electronics and all wires hidden properly. Yes, cost some money, but peace of mind that the system will look perfect and has a guarantee! And aside from that, it has permanent front and rear cameras and works very well! Can thoroughly recommend to other BMW owners!
👍
Hello, the kit 4G hardwire is working in UK?
I’ve just taken delivery of one of these on the back of your review… you do make a very convincing, menacing miscreant 😂
Hope you enjoy it!
Not quite what I was expecting in a 360° camera. As others have said to be a useful camera it really needs to be simultaneously recording both front and rear, but when I read the 360° description I was wondering whether it would have helped in a recent accident where the car I was in was hit just behind the back passenger side door, so neither a front or rear camera would catch it.
Pothole more like sink hole Great camera👍
That was small compared to some on that stretch of road 😂
Hello, if you have 2 cars and want to move the camera to another car and back how does the camera sticky area hold up? Or do they give you more sticky pads? Or is it easier to just buy 2 cameras?
It does come with more than one pad 👍
Where do I start.
Agree with Colin.
If you have to tell it to turn you already know there is a problem and should be avoiding it not thinking about filming it.
If you are rear ended, the front facing camera will prove you haven't stopped too suddenly and if you have its still fault of following vehicle being to close. [ ex traffic cop ]
Far to big, i've got a Nextbase that's smaller and doesn't take up so much room, is slmost invisible and doesn't look like a dogs turd hanging up.
As for the G shock mine is adjustable, believe me you don't want it sounding off on every bump.
You got it for free Pete, that's about the only plus point.
This one is too 👍
I've been using a Nextbase front dash cam for years and last year it paid off when a wagon caught my rear off side as I was stationary in traffic, it showed that it was 100% the wagon drivers fault and my insurance company on seeing the video didn't even ask for my excess as it was so obvious the other party was at fault.
Good video again Pete very interesting 👍 It does look quite bulky is it in real life or is it the video making it look larger than it really is?
It’s not that big. I’m sure there are smaller cameras on the market but this one is fine if you tuck it up near the rear view mirror 👍
It’s an interesting idea for sure but very bulky, all things considered, and as for lane departure warnings, I have a Thinkware cam on my Focus RS since 2016 and it has lane departure warnings - not verbal, beeps and chirps. All decent cams will have it, and camera alerts and mobile camera locations etc. It’s not a new thing on cams!!
That was interesting. Do they have a UK supplier or do you have to import it yourself and do they have a network of installers or is it purely self help videos. It certainly has good features. I for one am happy to watch product videos that are car related that impress you.
Just order via the link and fit yourself. It’s super easy 👍
@@PetrolPed Now you didn't say it was Super!!! easy in the film. That changes the goal posts. I might need to look into it further.
Great camera 📷 is available in OZ 🏁💙🇦🇺
Very cool apps😍😍😍😍
👍
From memory, with my EV, Halfords wouldn’t hard wire a dash cam as it interfered with the electric function of the car. Just for info, worth checking.
Halfords sell screen wash and fluffy dice……. Get your dash cam fitted by an auto electrician who knows what they’re doing. Fitting a dash cam into an EV is no different to any other car.
This is brilliant for loads of stuff, love the dodgy bloke lurking around the car feature, not you Pete hasten to add 👏 😀
😂😂😂
what issues would i run into if it was running permanently in an electric car would there be issues with the 12v battery running flat?
No more so than an ICE car 👍
This is super cool mate, although I’m a bit restricted with my view as I’ve got a GR Yaris. Do you think it would be too big?
Don’t think so. It could go high and to left if the mirror 🤔👍
@@PetrolPed Thankyou 🙏🏻
Hi pad
Have you try to use 4G on your Omni?
I have one with 4G kit but don’t know what network sim supports this dash cam I get 1 month smarty but somehow i can’t remote view.
I’m afraid not 😢
Hi Pete. I passed my advanced driving test last month and I had a gopro mounted next to my rear view mirror. The police traffic cop conducting the test said I should not have anything attached to the windscreen " within the sweep of the wipers". What do you think.
For the MOT that is true for stickers 👍
Pete. I think this looks really cool, though the hard wiring aspect seems daunting to me without professional installation. Side question: you made reference to something like "Claydens Culture " in the video. Don't know I'd I spelled that right (probably not), but could you explain what that is or the origin (or direct me to a Wikipedia page)? Thanks.
Claims Culture…you know…have you had an accident that wasn’t your fault ?!
@@PetrolPed I see! Yes, indeed.
I'm looking to get a camera system in the vRS. I'll be doing some research on this as I want a hard wired system installed professionaly..
Handy for taxi drivers but not sure how much use it will be for regular drivers as view out of side and rear windows is quite poor
Dashcams are great! - I have a MyVue. Rarely check the footage but useful to know its there - also check on where adult son goes when he borrows the car.
But why aren't they factory fitted? You can always disable it and the rear-facing camera is very complex to install...
Some manufacturers do have them as options 👍
Are the memory internal or removable card? Nice video.
Internal 👍
@@PetrolPed not good.
How did you get the motion detection work when in parking surveillance mode?
It only works when hard wired so I cheated a little 😜
@@PetrolPed I did hard wired it.
There seems to be a growing issue with the AI detection not working, mine included. Hard wire kit installed. Camera works in parking mode just fine, but does not use AI parking mode to track people as shown in this video.
How is the camera quality when viewing rear video. I was thinking this was cool - but think have a true rear view camera would be better than trying to get the unit to spin when needed
I'd recommend you to test the Akeeyo 720, that one records 360 degrees all the time, it's perfect to record other cars banging their doors against your car as well
any issues with battery drain with it being on all the time?
Well, it’s connected to my second battery in the camper. To make yourself an idea the 360ah battery can keep the dashcam recording for six and a half days. That means a consumption of around 2.5 amps per hour. If you have a regular 90ah battery that means it will deplete the battery I’d say in 2.5 days
How can it go back and record 5 seconds before the accident if it's not recording in a rear collision impossible 🤔
does anyone know in sentry/park mode if the car is attacked does it send a live message to your phone?
No it doesn’t do that 👎
@@PetrolPed cheers
what about that red ribbon ... should we remove it?
Are there any issues with Apple Car play? I know you stated you had to turn Bluetooth off to connect to the dashcam. but for normal driving car play and the dashcam work well together?
You only need to turn BT off when you want to connect to the camera to download video 👍
@@PetrolPed Thanks. I love your videos. although I do miss the Mini content.
More Mini content coming with Project PP 👍
@@PetrolPed right. Looking forward to that just saw Ep.1.
Sadly, I purchased one of these, but I soon regretted it. The dashcam itself is solid and well constructed.
I hate that you need to sign away your privacy to all and sundry via the "app" you have to download and use to even get it to work. Still, I thought I'd give it a try anyway. The damn thing won't save recordings, yet says it is recording on the screen.
I didn't get the other cable for it as I shouldn't need it, but the app on my phone says it can't find the Omni? What the hell is that about?
I sent a report to the company a few days ago and haven't had a reply from them as yet. I'm guessing this is a learning curve for me, an expensive one. I'm not a happy chappie.
Edit... If you don't purchase the "hardwire" kit, most of the features won't work, so it really is a waste of your hard earned money. This being the case, it should be included in the purchase and NOT an "accessory" item. They need to upgrade their software so that everything works?
If the internal memory card goes wrong for some reason, the dash cam then becomes totally useless. You shouldn't have to open an account with them to get your camera to work, it's yours, not theirs. Just more intrusion into people's privacy, tracking you and data mining.
Email me and I’ll forward it to my contact 👍
ped.greaves@gmail.com
Instead of hard wirning, can I use a USB power bank and leave it plugged in and powered on all the time from that source?
Probably 🤔
I’ve had Nextbase since 2017.
That's like having a Minion stuck to the screen....
😂😂😂
Interesting, but how would it deal with a near vertical Mini windscreen?
No problem. The adhesive pad that stick to the screen is on a hinge 👍
@@PetrolPed aha, cheers good Sir
I've been waiting for a 360 for ages because I worry about leaving my Jack Russell unattended in the car!
Here you go then 👍
Seems impractical to me. By the time you realise you have been rear ended, and ask the camera to record rear the accident has passed. Much better to have the two cameras recording front and rear at all times. Wont miss anything then.
No, that's wrong, when you have impact it records straight away, like when he went over the bump in the road, it records 5 seconds before and after the incident on its own
It is a good idea for a 1 camera setup although I agree with you because the 5 seconds before will only be in the direction the camera is pointing at that time (basically the camera is always recording and just saves 5 seconds before) so if you are rear ended and the camera is not facing backwards then you would not get it.
@@brumsgrub8633 Not if the single camera lens is pointing forward at the time of impact!
Hello! Could you please create a night-time surveillance video? I'm interested in capturing people walking by, getting too close, or even touching the car. Since I can't access on-street parking, I usually park my car at the rear of my house, where the lighting could be more varied. Unfortunately, I've had issues with kids scratching or throwing objects at my car, which led to me having to replace it. I want to avoid a similar situation this time. Knowing the video quality and how much footage could be recorded over 8 hours. Specifically, would it exceed 32GB? Thank you
I would be more interested in a dash cam that records in full 360 degree, so the incident is always captured. I feel that this one may miss the incident if the lens is facing the wrong direction.
Won't ship to the UK when going to the website?
Really ?! That’s weird. That shouldn’t be a problem 🤷♂️
@@PetrolPed did you order it or were you sent it as a sponsor
A bit misleading suggesting it’s a 360 degree camera. The Insta 360 is a 360 degree camera.
Evening All 😊
Hi 👋
For me a dashcam needs 4K so it can pick up number plates much clearer. Looks good though but maybe it needs a wake word like smart speakers.
The challenge with 4K is file size. HD with HDR does a great job and the file sizes are manageable 👍
Cars that have a usb port in the ceiling for dash cams are really starting to make sense.
That camera is huge, my garmin dashcam is about the size of ya thumb.
I'm surprised that manufacturers haven't started installing dash cams on mainstream vehicles as standard or at least as a factory fitted option and not just as an after market accessory.
Some do 👍
Gotta be honest initially had no interest in this video. But very interesting and a very cool device. Will I get one.. No..but still interesting
Thanks. I found it interesting the put the video together too 👍
❤🏁🇦🇺🥇
So many negative comments for something a bit different and innovative. Every single person I know has only one front dash cam except me. Not everyone can afford front and rear dual systems. So if you had the option to have one that you could fit yourself with some extra features then this would be good. Not everyone drives high end cars or can afford to have Porsche, bmw or auto electricians hard wire a front and rear camera. What about all the people on low budgets with small cheap cars? I have used viofo dash cams for years and never had any issues with them in my cheap family hatch. However, I like this camera as it would make a perfect rear camera on my Ford Grand C Max. If and when needed I could use it for reversing help using the phone app to view when reversing, I am aware there will be a bit of WiFi lag but it seems a no brainer to me for the price. Also if someone was to come along side me in a road rage incident I could simply tell it to look left or right? If someone comes to your side window and punches you will your front and rear camera see it? If you have a Tesla your ok though. So finally, let's not forget what this is, a budget camera with extra features. 😉
👍
so budget that, $200 for technology that was out 10yrs ago
@@meanwhilebackonearth7384 I consider it budget in the UK, there is cheap crap, Budget and high end. I've watched many reviews of many cameras and owned quite a few over the last 10yrs. None of my camera's are 4k yet I can clearly see number plates on my 1080p cameras. So if you can point me to a camera that's cheaper, has all the features of this 1080p camera and was available 10yrs ago I will gladly buy it and give it a try.
@@CharlySayz obviously your research on the subject is lacking , because at a price of $200+ , its not budget ,especially when you can get 4 channel (cameras)360 driving and surveillance monitoring for less. and don't tell me about the uk, amazon , ali express, and ebay are everywhere .
@@meanwhilebackonearth7384 Oh well obviously you are an expert in this field of Dash Cams, possibly you could start your own channel showing us all these amazing high quality budget dash cams. The cam is actually $189.44, UK is £151.26, you don't need a memory card as 64gig is built in. A Viofo 3 channel 1080p is £259.99 Currently here, a Nextbase front only 4k camera is £239. Yes there are cheaper cams but they are terrible, I should know, I've bought a few. The sweet spot if you can afford it is a 2k cam with a Sony Starvis sensor as found in most of the Viofo dash cams. Most cheap cams that say 4k are just upscaled 1080p
Me I'll keep doing my amatuer research, watch CZcams channels like this but mostly more detailed reviews and research by Linus Tech Tips. You should possible type in the CZcams search button the words... Linus Tech Tips, Dash cams and learn something. My idea of a budget cam is obviously different to yours, the cams you speak of I call cheap crap, or cheap rubbish. If you are happy with them then I am happy for you, each to their own I guess. 😁
Hi all 👋
Evening Ben! 👋🏻
Hi@@francoisg3500 👍
Hello 👋
Hi
Hi 👋
You can't see the rear view very well, not as good as a dedicated rear camera.
My dad has 3 🙂
You didn't show the installing
You must have watched a different video 🤷♂️
First!! Evening all!! Hope everyone is doing well and has a lovely week.
Good Evening Sir
You too!!
Hello mate
Hi 👋
Meh not a real 360 dashcam. But, I wonder if it would compete w my vava 4k or viofo: I have a dashcam channel and want the highest quality possible and also multi angle
Hello, Pete I sent you an email with an idea for how to make your trip to Spa and the Nurburgring even more exciting. Could you please see if you received my mail? It is an invitation for May 2nd.
Sorry, I have seen it and was going to reply. Sadly that is the day we are heading home. Thanks so much for reaching out though. Sounded fun 😢
@@PetrolPed Bad idea to stay for one more day? :)In any case, feel free to respond to my email, and we can find some other options. BTW we have not seen Ruby for a while!
I don't like the design of the dashcam as it just doesn't look nice in the car (great picture quality and 360 degree feature). Installing the USB cable is easy, you just have to pull the door seals off then you can pull the trim back or off and feed it completely out of the way.
Thanks 🙏🏻
1:27 you aren’t a big fan of the aesthetics???? Can’t say that this 70mai is pleasing to the eye???
Something like the 1S or M300 is better looking. Horizontal slim cylinder shape.
Each to their own. I like the look 👍
Classic, opening statement: ‘I’ve never bought as Dash-cam, as they look aftermarket and I don’t like the aesthetics’ you then installed the least stealth looking OE metal micky coke can humanly possible, oh dear, oh dear, really!
As they say looks are in the eye of the beholder. I like it 👍
