- Marvin Bracy sets a new high school national record with a 6.08 second 55 meter run at the Jimmy Carnes indoor track and field meet held at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, FL. The meet was hosted by University of Florida and held on 01-29-2012.
At first I thought he had false started while I was filming this and just wasn't called on it with the jump he got on the field. After replaying my video at the meet in slow mo and frame by frame it can clearly be seen that Bracy begins to move the 3rd frame after the puff of smoke from the gun. Since my camera shoots at 30 frames a second, I would estimate around a .1 reaction(or anticipation) to the gun.
Upon further examination of the video in my editor I can see that the gun sound hit the camera mic about 5.5 frames after the first flash of the gun, which means that I was sitting about 63 meters away from the gun. Sorry if the video is a little shaky. I hand held the camera.

This version has corrected audio and I also created a full run slow mo where you can clearly see the puff of smoke and then Marvin begin to move afterward.

Also a frame comparison video from the frame before the gun to 7 frames after the gun, a total of 200 ms at the start so you can see how much movement there is.

For anyone who says he false started. Here is a link to my other version of this race where I slowed down the video and you can see the smoke and the movement of the runners.

If you watch closely, you will see the smoke and then see Bracy move 3 frames later. My camera shoots at 30 frames a second which means he took .10 seconds to respond to the gun. Even if he guessed the gun it would not have been a false start in Olympics or a professional track meet because the sensors in the starting blocks for pros are set to trigger anything quicker than .10 as a false start. He did not false start, but he may have guessed perfectly.
That is a legal start. Bracy didn't false start. Pause at 0.29. U see the smoke from the starter gun before the sound and Bracy moved after the smoke.
If you go before 0.1 seconds after the gun fires, it's still a false start because humans can't possibly react that fast. He went 0.6 after the gun fired so yes it was a false start by IAAF rules but he was _extremely_ lucky.
That start was unbelievable.
@kwill328 the sound of the gunb does start the race but if you listen very closely, you can hear a small pop sound which indicates that the gun went off

Ayy I run for USATF, that's a clean start I run the 400m for team USA, this kid has unbelievable instincts, he did the same thing against us at practice when we were working starts earlier this season and coach Johnson could not figure out why he was getting out faster as we broke down film and worked with it, we came to the conclusion, he was jumping the gun, which is LEGAL, cause I do it and so does Tyson!
But this kid sets it to another level, rep that Marvin keep working, god bless you man
theres' a delay b/w the smoke and the sound of the gun. Smoke doesnt mean the sound went off right on that point,
@glaeser90 I was exhausted after I got home from Gainsville and didn't even catch that the audio didn't line up with the video. I will upload a new version with a slow mo start and correct audio so people can see the smoke and not get confused by how far off the gun is.
He either an incredible start or was super lucky on the anticipation. Seeing how he runs a 10.05 I'll assume its the talent

I paused this video frame by frame and he went off after the gun was fired. He plain and simple reacted faster than anyone else did. He was taking his first step before anyone else even flinched to run. Look for yourself at the 27 sec mark pause and unpause until you see the puff of smoke release from the gun. That was quick!!!
Jumping the gun is not illegal in T+F, and this was one of the greatest displays of "jumping the gun" i have ever seen. Not to mention this kid is on another level when put up against these other sprinters.

That was 100 percent clean start. Look at the smoke from the gun. It has nothing to do with the sound on this video with delayed audio.

Not a false start, but definitely jumped the gun. Just barely within legal limit.

An amazing race, but I think he caught a flyer. I looked at it frame frame and the gun flashes at 2.98 seconds and he reacts 0.06 seconds later, which is not humanly possible. At elite championships, they measure the time between the gun and the force on the starting blocks and if it's less than 0.10 seconds, it's a false start. Still, he won by 0.4 seconds which is a crazy margin in a 55M!
im in this race 6.80 not bad for a horrible start. and no bracy didnt jump the gun, it was just an amazing start.

Well, he should stick to track then. He is like a male version of Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce. She gets some unbelievable starts and initial acceleration. Bracy is in the same mold.
I wish someone would break down that 6.08 sec 55m and see what his times was at the 40 yard mark. His 40 yard time is probably sick.
He did not jump. I slowed it down and he did not jump. And even he was the last one off the blocks he still would have won. Great instinct and great reflex! This is how i always won my races because i was always off the blocks faster

nah people didn't jump the gun. You don't go on the smoke but on the sound and he timed that damn near perfectly. If you pause it just right you'll see his hand is clearly on the line as smoke is coming out of the gun. He simply reacted flawlessly
