    Konami needs to revise how the banlist works.
    Maybe ban/limit certain combinations of cards, rather than just one card to kill a specific-combo.
    Banning only devalues the cards that Konami is trying so hard to sell, and angers the people (players and collectors, alike) that buy them.
    I've also heard of a "limit-point"-system brought up in certain alt-rule rings, where each deck gets 5 points to use, forbidden takes 3 points, limited takes 2, semi takes 1.

    • @Crawver
      @Crawver Před 9 lety

      Pretty sure they tried the ban/limit combo with stratos. Because stratos simply existed, About 3-4 other cards were also on the limit list. Cards that didn't need to be in there had it not been for him. Now don't get me wrong, I loved stratos. I'm an avid e-hero player and I always enjoyed using him. But I'm not stupid, he was a broken card that gave the user too much power. He deserved to die. He was holding too many other cards back just to reign in his own strength.
      If we did this for every potential broken combo around, so many non-problem cards will end up limited just to keep the offender out of jail. It's the tail wagging the dog.

    I remember when I first got into yugioh, I was like 15 or 16 years old. I won a regional with an exodia butterfly dagger deck and some kids at my school (it was a middle to high school) thought that was the coolest thing ever. I, being a cocky and arrogant 16 year old went along with it. They worshiped me and I helped them turn their decks from shit that ran ass like Stone Dragon into competitive vampire lord and stuff like that. Then, one of them was like: Hey, fight me. And I was like, okay. First turn I draw double summon, elma, gearfried, and library. Double summon, equip, spam it infinitely. Exodia FTK and the kid called hacks on me.

    One thing that I did with Giant Turnade in some of the older DS games is to use it with Swords of Revealing Light. When SRL is returned to the hand, the timer resets, plus it's a spell card meaning you can use it again in the same main phase, meaning that if you timed it right you can get up to 5 turns of the enemy deadlocked on one card, even more if you could recover Turnade somehow.

    I think one of the more interesting combos I've seen with future fusion is when it gets combined with dragon's mirror. If you were to draw both card's first turn, you could first turn summon a five-headed dragon (or blue eyes ultimate), plus two turns later you would get another five headed dragon. You could also use future fusion to put two red eyes black wyverns and two red eyes black metal dragons in your graveyard and then if you don't summon any monsters that turn you can special summon two red eyes black metal dragons from the graveyard.

    Some nerd cries because he can't counter/doesn't have a certain card so Konami bans it.

      Sure. There's tons of ways to kill it. However it can be summoned in 1 turn in multitudes of ways, and completely flip the tide of battle with the only consequence for you being that your other monsters can't attack.
      It's just a rather silly card, that really doesn't belong in the game.
      Although, I can argue the same thing about a lot of strategies in the game that aren't banned.

    Cold Wave was at 3 for so long because it wasn't actually that strong when it came out - the game was much slower. You couldn't simply turn on the OTK-switch through monster effects until stuff like Lightsworn, Glads, X Sabers and so on appeared. Now, with the spamming more prevalent than ever, Cold Wave is just ridiculously strong. As the game got faster and faster, the effect of Cold Wave got better and better.

    Painful Choice also works very well with Ritual Decks, mainly (Evi)Gishki. I swear it brings their game up a couple of levels (especially if your running Djinn as well). Like, Exchange of Souls (Trap) is a much more dangerous card to have with Lightsworns, like a reverse & evil Fiber Jar. I wish it would get released to 1 (and only 1). Same as Trunade & Cold Wave. I miss these cards... [I play casually btw. Why is Raigeki freed now btw?] Future Fusion as well but...I've actually learned to play without it. CO cleanses your own field when you special summon it, which makes permanent and counter trap cards support virtually impossible.
      Unless you want to use it for something other than pure OTK, that is ; but I doubt anyone in their right mind would attempt that.

  • @ChaosXOtaku
    @ChaosXOtaku Před 9 lety +7

    I think the reason snatch steal was banned was because of another card called bad reaction to simochi basically bad reaction to simochi makes any life points you opponent gains & turns into damage for example let say you have just activated snatch steal & took a monster away from you opponent then you chained bad reaction to simochi to the activation to snatch steal you have now just taken away a monster from you opponent & to add insult to injury they lose a 1000 life points each turn as long as that monster is on your side of the field

    • @RGYGO
      @RGYGO Před 9 lety +2

      The only deck that runs bad reaction is nurse burn, and in that deck you wouldn't need snatch steal because you don't need monsters to attack or even clear their front row. The reason snatch steal was banned was because the game picked up so much speed that it was just as good as brain control, because it doesn't have the 800 cost and unless your opponent has an mst they would lose their monster and not have that monster around long enough to benefit off the lp boost.

For exemple, imagine that you have a card that inflict damage to your live point each time your monster is send to your graveyard. your destroye a monster that return to the field each time you inflict damage and you have another card that send this card to the graveyard. It's a chaine reaction.

      Chercheur de vérité Idk what that has to do with what I was talking about but okay......? I think you're referring to some loops that otk. Yeah, there are a lot of ways to otk out there. Hell, Cyberstein otk is actually a thing again in the OCG but nobody's playing it cuz it's just so inconsistent that an effect negation could stop the otk. There's the primal seed loop too, and primal seed actually got limited cuz konami thought people would run it since bls is legal, but again, nobody did. I don't understand the upvotes. Elma doesn't work with Woodland Sprite. Sprite sends equip cards, it doesn't destroy so Elma won't return to your hand.

    • @PagingDoctorGuy
      @PagingDoctorGuy Před 10 lety

      Woodland Sprite gives you the ability to send Equip Spell Cards equipped to it to the Graveyard. Sending them to the Graveyard for this specific purpose is the only way to activate the effect and inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent.
      Now that was a previous ruling though so Idunno if it would work now

      I know. But Butterfly Dagger Elma needs to be - destroyed - while equipped for it to return to your hand. Woodland Sprite doesn't destroy the card, it sends it to the graveyard without destroying, much like how Dark End Dragon sends monsters without destroying. Elma will not return to your hand if sent to the grave via Woodland Sprite.

    While it's not a high-tier use of it, with a cyber deck, or in fact any machine deck that ran cyber dragon, you could activate Future Fusion, chose Chimeratech Overdragon, send every monster in your deck to the graveyard, and then play overload fusion to bring out Chimeratech Overdragon early without having to worry about Future Fusion's drawback. This would basically give you a huge multi-attacking monster that can attack and kill everything your opponent has on the field (and doesn't care about cards like Mystic Tomato, Nimble Momonga or Peten the Dark Clown) provided that there isn't a D-Prision, Mirror Force or Sakuretsu Armor on the field.

''Why buy newer cards when I got pretty good ones already?" Other than a small handful of cards that are banned from the traditional format list, that is the only reason why any cards get banned at all.

      Because it has no cost and you can use it on any players graveyard. Nowadays there are cards that allow you to special summon specific monsters from the graveyard, such as 'Silver's Cry' that allows you to get a Normal Dragon Type monster from the grave. Or there are cards like 'Soul Charge' which has a huge advantage but a really big cost. Monster Reborn is just a free summon from any graveyard.

    i can really think of only two reasons
    1. It's like a second heavy storm, since you remove the set S/T on the field. So there should be a limit to the number of times you can clear the field like that
    2. Re-use certain continuous cards, like swords of revealing light and premature burial. Note that the equipped monster is NOT destroyed even if premature burial is removed from the field, so you can reborn another monster in the same turn for a very low cost (800 lp)

    I would like to note that Dark World's not the only archetype to benefit from discarding your own cards. Though a lot of Dark World cards require your opponent to discard them to use their effect, the all-purpose discard effects of the Fabled archetype are just as good. Since Fabled cards don't require your opponent at all you don't have to bank on your opponent having a card to help you.
    Though I know one Dark World monster can go onto your opponent's field to make you discard, the Fabled series also has their own (and in my personal opinion, better) card that can make your opponent help you discard: Fabled Dianaira.
    2800 ATK, requires 1 Tribute as long as it's a Fabled monster, and once per turn the first Normal Spell your opponent uses is reworded to make you discard a card instead. This can seriously kill Fusion decks like E-Hero's if Polymerization is their only Spell card in their hand.
    And even if they have another Spell card, they have to use it first if they want to use Polymerization afterwards (though it's risky because the Fabled user could have Catsith and kill any Fusion mat you had on the field). That sound a lot better than giving your opponent something to use against you, right?

    I think you missed the point of Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity.
    What makes them broken is not that they have a good effect for no cost, at least not exclusively, but that they bypass the "40 cards minimum" rule for no cost. Simply putting the cards into your deck reduces the deck size by 1 and actually playing them by another 1 or 2. If all that Pot of Greed did was let you draw one single card, it would still be on ban lists.
    Cards like Pot of Duality are different, because giving up your ability to special summon the turn you play it is a big deal.

Along with being able to abuse it with Gearfried, you can also use it with Rod of Silence - Kay'Est. Just keep on activating it so you gain LP with Spell Absorption/Moral Boost, then Fire Princess burns opponent's LP to 0.

    Seems to me like most bans, particularly of the classics, are due to Konami needlessly coming up with ever more shitloads of ways to return cards from the graveyard (and/or want them to be in it) instead of keeping those effects restricted to a select few. Back in the day there was what, Monster Reborn as the lynchpin of a potential ultimate comeback (or doubling down after a major successful attack since - for plot reasons - you also had access to your enemy's graveyard, which is why it had always been Limited IRL) and, of course, zombie decks, and that was about it? Nowadays, though, there's a plethora of ways - mostly through (usually extra deck) effect monsters, it seems - you can pretty much endlessly bring back cards, albeit only of a specific archetype or two in each case.
