It wasn’t necessarily a dead issue. The judge dismissed it in the trial court but it was headed for an appeal but they settled shortly before the appeal would’ve been heard. But they had a good chance to win their appeal - to dismiss it meant there was no arguable fact that a jury could have ruled in their favor. The context of the argument and how the pay was calculated and how that difference factors in was very likely an argument that a jury should hear. Doesn’t mean they would’ve won but it was still an issue that should’ve been argued. But the PR of just getting a deal done was appealing to settle. Because it wouldn’t have ended there since they would’ve had to them begin to negotiate the next CBA where the issues would’ve still been out in the media. Sometimes you settle just to move on

You are aware that US Soccer has collective bargaining with the men's and women's teams right? The Men negotiated a contract that had NO guaranteed money or benefits in exchange for the CHANCE for huge bonus payments if they performed well. None of the alternates to the men's team got paid, ONLY those who are on the active roster. The women NEGOTIATED a much different contract. They opted for much smaller bonus payments for performance in exchange for guaranteed money up front. Alternates on the women's team get paid just like the women who are on the final roster. They also had benefits like health insurance and other things the men did not have. The women chose SECURITY vs rolling the dice on performing at the highest level and then they want to cry that they are not getting paid on a contract THEY NEGOTIATED. These women are LIARS pushing a false narrative for a political agenda.

At the end of the day it comes down to what you weigh more. Success or attention. Some of the things that are the real issue, the dirty little secret is that women don't really support women's sports. It's still usually upheld by men. I watch the female sports. I support it. My mother doesn't. My aunt doesn't. My neice don't either. My brother does my uncle does. They few women I do know that watch, casually ( she might watch a baseball game here and there) I might not even say that's a dedicated fan. Where is I stream or so whatever I can to watch my teams and the games I like. The uswnt is the better of the teams, but it's still the men's soccer that brings in most of the cash. Even tho they suck. It's less about gender than what really meets the eye. It's so many levels and layers. The one that gets usually left off and left out is the fact that women don't support sports as much as men. It's just how it is. And sorry to say but gotta be said. It's usually women who's not doing the heaviest lifting complaining about the load. Women should support sports more. That would easily help make the be paycheck bigger. I've brought more WNBA jerseys than all the women in my immediate family combined even some connected and extended to family. Just something to think about. Let's also make the games more accessible. Before for all the cable and TV deals and network deals. It was easy to become a fan of sports in general. Regular broadcast tv help creates fans. Everyone can spent money on cable and streaming service not matter the cost of they on a budget and low income. I was lucky to be able to watch the local WNBA games on regular tv and that's how I got into it more. Before that I didn't even think I'd be into it. They got game! 😂 😂 lol

The money and best payments will always be where the most viewers are, biggest sponsors and biggest tv deals. Its really that simple. I completely get that a lot of women want more money and in some cases they probably should get more. And then in these situations they start acting like they really care about equal pay in women sports? How can you claim you are advocating for equal pay when you the biggest sport network in the USA doesn’t give the same publicity to the women sports. Let’s be completely honest , no one prefers to watch women’s sports over men it is absolutely boring and I truly believe that no woman in any sport should be getting paid the same or more as a man because the talent level is so completely different and so is the revenue. Now if you’re a doctor or a lawyer you should definitely be getting the same pay but athletes NAA! no one wants to watch women’s sports except volleyball.

See "Old Guy's" post below. Doesn't surprise me in the least to see a couple of talking heads on ESPN completely misunderstanding not only the issues, but the meaning of the settlement. Perhaps Stephen A and the anchor of this segment would like to invest a few minutes of their time reading the court ruling from last fall. In a nutshell, the court said that: 1) their agreement was a result of collective bargaining and that the members voted in favor of the agreement, 2) the USWNT actually were paid more than the mens team, and 3) the collective bargaining agreement was structured as it was out of the request of the USWNT, who wanted a higher base salary in lieu of higher success compensation. So, the court ruled against them. It should be noted that this "settlement" (which is not related to litigation) results in the women being paid what US Soccer offered to pay them in the first place - that is, before they insisted on higher base salary and lower performance pay. So, again Stephen A, this isn't US Soccer not wanting equal pay. Rather, US Soccer offered the exact same contract the men negotiated, but the women turned it down. Now you can go back to ranting about things you don't understand.

Sure there was a pay gap - and now it's even bigger. The women's team has consistently been paid _more_ than the men's team. In fact, the men's team would have been paid _more_ had _they_ had the same deal as the women. Here's the thing:
Both teams were given the choice between two deals: one risky deal with no guaranteed pay but big bonuses, and one safe deal with guaranteed pay and benefits, but low bonuses. The men's team went for the risky deal, the women's team went for the safe deal. Of course, at the time the women didn't realise just how successful they were going to be, and in retrospect they realised they would have made more money had they picked the men's deal. But it was _their own choice._ And worse still: during Covid, all games were cancelled. This meant that the men didn't get paid at all, while the women, having a deal which contained a safety net of guaranteed pay, still made millions without playing a single game. _And still_ they had the gall to complain about "unequal pay".
