One thing in Watchers of the Throne the high Lords prime minister whatever his in universe title is said emphatically they were never deliberately run down look how institutions decay over 100 years let alone 10,000

Sergeant Agun Soric's story in Gaunt's Ghosts with the Black Ships is truly one of 40k's saddest, grimmest moments.
I remember being upset when he was betrayed, and his last message was him begging for help. Good Man, tragic end.

@@w4rd3n14 No, close, Hark is the one who took him to the black ships. I still haven't read books 10 and up so if he appears I will be pleasantly surprised. He only ever used the note to try and save his troopers from heretics. He got did dirty IMO!

The Custodes abandoning the Sisters of Silence to politics is one of the few bits of grimderp lore attached to the Custodes imho. It's so dumb that they just would neglect something as a vital as the Silent Sisterhood and still be called competent.
Custodes are just written as dipshits honestly. Yeah sure they're cool and all, but you sat and sulked for ten thousand years while the Imperium slowly burned because you felt bad? Jesus man, I'm sure the Emperor would be so proud of the work you've done. Losers.
A lot of bad cases of neglect happened irl too, so it's not unlikely

Man being a sister of silence must suck, you have to be basically in solitude or else you can hurt normal people aside from your sisters, can’t speak, and hunt evil beings forever basically.
Could be worse, could be a underhive serf with no future that works 20hrs a day, covered in chemical burns an toxins induced tumors who eats tasteless food thats in short supply, constant fear of gangs, cultists, an your neighbour Gary eyeing you up like a piece of meat.

Living on a world that isn’t a war ridden shithole and dying a peaceful old age death is also good.
i just finished gaunts ghost only in death last night. the black ship character in that book was heart breaking and almost brought me to tears. black ships arnt "cool grimdark" or "scary gripdark", they are sad/grim grimdark.

That story about the very first psyker plugged in was intense... I was just transfixed as i read it. Have to love the old white dwarf story about the apex twins, even a black ship couldn't stop them.

I feel like all time travel stories in 40k are like that. Someone finds out how to time travel, try to retcon the Horus Heresy, the inquisition finds out about them, and kills them off. Since 40k runs basically on Murphy's Law that's probably for the best.
Except Revanor, dude went 3 or 4 thousand years in the past an bk to the future using his exhausted powers with probably the safest(by 40k standards) most accurate teleporter/ time machine, what did he end up doing with it? used it to blow up a deamon.
Would love it if GW did a story specifically related to the black ships. Particularly the "average" crews.

The lore about the lost black ship from the end of the video is from a short story in the HH book tales of the heresy. Definitely a good read as tales of the heresy also contains the last church which is an incredible read

Hey Majorkill I just wanna say, despite not using geology you talking about skincare and how good it is has gotten me into skincare routines for myself and it has made me feel 10x better than I use to. As much as I tend to prefer old school factions like the Space Marines and Guardsmen, I have been slowly learning to enjoy the Custodes and Sisters of Silence, the more I learn about them. Wild stuff.
I read the story about the time-traveling Sister, as I recall the Future Sister was killed by the other one because the Present Sister had sipped Lorgars Kool-aid and believed the Emperor was a god and therefore if the Heresy had occurred it was because He had willed it to be so.

I've kind of wondered about Blanks since considering how useful they are particularly to one of the Assassin Temples & Inquistion why they wern't shall we say breeding blanks or vat growing them or something. I also have long wondered whether a blank could become a space marine or not ... i suspect not since Geneseed seems to be psychically empowered to some degree.
as i understand the mechanicus has tried that a bit especially to help the culexis temple because blank assassins are very useful but a lot of things with blanks have to be done behind closed doors in the imperium because their very existence disturbs the hell out of people
I think the culexus assassin that was part of the team that took out the black paraiah was a clone. So at least they do it.

I'm sure it mostly comes down to several different matters of scale; something GW can struggle with, anyway, but I find it odd that, at least at times, the majority of the Sisters of Silence could all be on Terra, and no issues, but the even smaller number of Untouchables that could survive, and compromise the Culexus Temple, their anti-souls were strong enough to interfere with the Astronomicon, and they had to be wiped out/ relocated to a distant world? Sisters aren't shooting nega-soul blasts, sure, but even the Culexus, I think, need their Animus Specula to do that, and another thing those arcane helms do is suppress their blank auras, so it's odd, too me.

The strongest get sent to the Astra Militarum as battle psykers, the unstable or disloyal are fed to the throne, but the rest regardless of capability get sent to the astra telepathica until the Astra Militarum needs replacement.

Video explaining the Webway? Is it a pocket dimension that doubles as a Highway with cities? Is it a bunch of pocket dimensions that are connected by highways? It’s never been clear to me, at least.
Theory: Big E actually died and was reborn. He then went on his merry way. The 1000 souls a day are actually powering the throne.
GW internal logic:
Pariah: Some one who's presence shuts down the warp.
Demon: The physical manifestation of a warp entity.
Black Pariah: Pariah squared.
Chaos Marine: Super solder who worships the warp and uses the power of the warp.
Conclusion: Warp worshiper used the power of the warp to control the most powerful anti warp entity and placed a warp entity inside of it to make it more powerful.

I'm assuming the general answer is yes, but can psychers work together to create stronger effects and manifest greater powers? If so, had the imperium ever fielded whole squads of psychers (outside of the thousand suns) to wreck people's shit? Or is it simply too much of a risk with chaos?

I find popculture references to those few with extraordinary abilities to be an allegory on firearms.
Watch anything regarding superheroes: Batman v Superman, the MCUs civil war arc, anything regarding X-Men or mutants, and you'll see fear of uncommon strengths/abilities.
It's all about evolutionary arms races and trying to deny a potential adversary an advantage.
Firearms are about as an extreme in disparity in force as it can get on a commonality scale. A 95 yr old frail woman can conceivably defend herself successfully against multiple large, strong, robust men in their prime if she is armed with a firearm and they aren't. Knights were the epitome of martial prowess before the introduction and proliferation of the firearm. These were wealthy nobles who were capable of affording not just the exceptional armor, weapons, and horses that common foot soldiers were incapable of affording, but they also could spend the time to train to have better physicality and techniques. If you're a billionaire, you can afford to spend all day in either a gym increasing your strength or in martial arts training increasing your skill set. Someone struggling with working 3 jobs to put food on the table and is barely able to keep themselves healthy wouldn't stand much of a chance in hand to hand combat against said hypothetical billionaire. Arm both of them and that ability gap shrinks drastically.

Psykers are still vulnerable to possession, perhaps even more so while dreaming an can still use their powers even when out cold, the especially powerful ones can project their souls like a outer body ghost. stasis will probably stop the Psyker but not deamons or warp shenanigans, trazyn learnt that the hard way.

Also I am pretty sure the ship in the story you mentioned was stuck in some kind of time flux since parts of it were rusting right in front of the eyes of the sisters that boarded it. Cool story too bad its just fluff with no impact on anything, only funny being the face the sister who did not believe made when Horus heresy began.
