- This behind-the-scenes series takes a closer look at our time filming for my latest film "Postcard from San Francisco".
Watch "Postcard from San Francisco" here on Red Bull Bike: • Danny MacAskill’s Post...
Episode 7: Friday the 13th
I did not expect to be going back to Alcatraz again, both my body and bike have been pushed to their limits. I couldn’t leave San Francisco with a feeling of failure, I needed one final crack at landing the front flip at Alcatraz.

I don't think most people know how hard doing something hard really is. Danny's commitment to perfection is awesome and translates to the real world. Doing something right is worth the effort..
And having solid friends by your side is priceless too. Kudos to Danny and crew!🤙
Zero percent half-assery. Hell of a guy.
the original Back of the Postcard segment is made 1000x better by having a insight into what Danny and the team put into these clips. Unreal determination, skill & mindset. A true privilege to see a master in their craft! Thank you so much for the initial segment and for this series that followed!
💯
Wow. Fair play, Danny. Massive respect, to you and the entire team. This whole documentary was incredible.
What a brilliant series,so good to see Danny overcome the fear that we all feel.
Yesssss! Emotional when he landed the front flip and the wheel didn’t explode….. what a professional guy and amazingly talented crew. Great shooting, insane riding and beautiful editing. 10/10. What a great ambassador he is for Red Bull and Adidas 5/10 🤟🏼 and… not an ego in sight. Keep living your dreams guys!
I love watching these "the making of" videos Danny does! It shows the level of commitment and skill that not only Danny has, but his whole crew! Great job as always!!
Just watched the entire series, just epic. Danny your a rock. Brilliant
Owdo lad,it's good seeing how much work goes into an edit, most people don't realise how much work it takes to make a banging edit. Nice work by Danny da'jib master & team
For a guy who's one of the top athletes in the world at his chosen sport, Danny is remarkably calm, low key, and undemanding. I really enjoyed this series.
That slam straight on your back. I felt that.
Absolutely smashed it I’ve loved sitting watching one after another, the stuff you do is mind bending and I’ve been hooked from when I first watched you jumping across the front of the shop, riding a railing fence and back flipping up a tree🤯all these years down the line your are still blowing me away with your magic on a bike, the time and pain you put in shows. You are a true legend 👍🏻
Totally stunning!! And such brilliant work from the whole crew. An amazing behind the scenes series which earns you all a whole new level of respect.
Unbelievable! You all rock sooo much!
Thanks for sharing the BTS!!!
All of these episodes are brilliant! Well done to all involved and thanks for sharing.
Loved it all the way through ! Thanks the team for the BTS work, really appreciated it and, of course, thanks Danny, you really are amazing !
Thanks to all the team for your job, so inspiring!
Wonderful wrap-up to the "making of" series. Thank you again for sharing the process with us. Gives us the false impression that you're human after all!
Cheers! 🚲👍‼
These Back of the Postcard films have been just excellent
The film was awesome, but these videos are really the next level. Thank you so much for sharing the experiences that went into the film with all of us! Can't wait for the next one :)
Just watched all the parts of this what an incredible film from start to finish. Amazing work from everyone involved its good to get a behind the scenes look at some of the work involved in this sort of project.
I'm using Sonny's phone. We're home, he's sleeping. My bag in car so no phone. He's been sick again. I still stink. Hope this works.
Good jobs guys! That was amazing to follow you on this freaking adventure. You make a great team. Thank you Danny, you're definitively the best!
Absolute legend . Brilliant Danny !
This series is criminally underwatched...
Absolutely love these behind the scenes guys 🙌
loved this whole series. congrats to ALL of you. great film. great story telling. thanks for letting us behind the curtain to see all the effort that goes in. Epic.
big love danny, super inspiring as always
Class 👏👏👏
Incredible
Jaysus I felt the pressure watching, and the silence when you got it🤌
Undoubtedly the best bike stunt guy out there! I loved the bit when he said I can't wait to get back to Inverness so I can ride the Ebikes!! 💯Cool Dude!👌.
🤘😎🤘
That was sick! What a fun ride! Lol. Well done to you All!
I knew the moments and tricks were incredibly difficult. I didn't realize the forces involved.
Great work. Truly amazing.
Proper lesson how it's ok to fail, but to keep trying. What a legend.
Relentless man great teamwork
THIS MAN IS A MAGICIAN
I had watched a few of your videos some 7 to 8 years ago, and I thought it was all spotaneous maneuvers! I liked the one with the Band of Horses song. Sometimes the music sounds a bit sad, though! Anyway, I really love the beautiful Scottish landscape where you live. Here you have visited the state I live in. I hope you had a good time in California.🧡
Class.
Great series of videos. Those wheel explosions were scary.
What a great series.
Skill on an other level
Mega, just Mega!
Brave man Danny 👍 well done
Forward somersault is such a BALLER Trick! Real
Never seen a wheel explode like that! Glad you survived to finish the shoot!
I am see you.. few year.. you all time going amazing 🎉🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice my Danny bro ❤❤❤💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Phenomenal stuff mate, some seriously good riding!
Freakin’ legend.
That was spectacular. Thanks for taking us all on this journey. Cheers
Now... Hey Santa Cruz, release that bike and those wheels so we can all try to break them!!
Danny is just build different. 💪
amazing you guys deserve the little sparkles when i smash like
He has been doing a lot of work. I just don’t know what to say he’s so good
to me the documentary was almost better than the finished video. Shows what goes into making something like this! well done!
well done danny
The dokumentation "behind the scenes" is more important than the genious cut 😀
Keep it rolling Danny 🎉 but don’t break your neck!
The respect of what seems like superhuman or insane determination and perseverance to be able to endure so much failure, pain and struggle to get that one good attempt comes equally with a realisation that I can't imagine how it could be fun. When I watched the first Danny Mac video all those years ago it was inspirational and it made me want to learn to ride like that, I kind of wish something like this documentary existed back then so I could realise why I can't ride like that and would never want to.
The other thing this documentary did really well apart from also being very entertaining and enjoyable to watch was increase the WTF factor. The tricks were already obviously huge but I really had no idea how many attempts or the length of training and prep that is involved just for this video and I underestimated the danger before this series. You just think of these professionals as people who do and practice the sport all the time and these videos as a showcase of their best tricks that you think they can nail most of the time with a few controlled spills along the way. I never imagined that these videos were such high risk attempts at bleeding edge stunts that they can barely and rarely land.
Danny, you should have done that front flip at the start of your trip. I think all that San Fran food pushed the Reserve wheels to the limit. Great work guys!!!
Coolest guy ever!
Amazing! When Danny said he went 'Tubeless, with an insert', what was the insert?
My first guess is that perhaps it was a pressure relief valve, allowing some of the air to escape at extreme pressures, dampening some of the shock.
Salto avant ; de cette hauteur ; atterrissage en aveugle et des marches d'escalier dans le dos … il fallait oser. Bravo bravo, surtout après avoir explosé une roue.👍
How much force does it take to break that carbon back wheel. IV hit so hard before and on ledges when you think a wheel would break but The flip to flat ground is impressive. So much force on that poor wheel.
Still the best
Oh and it’s true what they say team work makes the dream work
Seems like Santa Cruz/Reserve has to do some improvements on their rims. Absolutely insane when top of the line material starts becoming the factor holding you back. Incredible riding Danny
Don't think Santa Cruz manufactures the rims. They are usually from a third party. problem may be in the building of them? I wonder if he is running to low a tire pressure for this stunt? Don't know.
I don't think that those were even necessarily rim failures. I think at least one of them was the spokes and/or the hub flange. At that amount of force, you have to start to expect equipment failures once in a while.
Can't believe that this only has 505k subs and 87k views...
Is this new type of bmx? I mean the bike. Looks dope
Danny, when is the next book coming out?
I broke another one! And just walks off. Are you kidding me!
Check Leon Russell and the Shelter People's "Alcatraz" for some music to sample for the final video.
10:43 seagull bait.
Hey Danny, I don't know if you seen my comment on the previous attempt you did when you first shattered your rim, but I made a comment about a friend of mine who works at a bike shop and who does rim work, he does custom rims where he spins the spokes, I believe he either twists them once or twice and then spreads them back out, which I think he said makes it 15% stronger. Do you know about this? Have you ever tried it?
You watch the final product and think "wow this is class", then you watch all these 7 episodes and rewatch the final product and think "this is fucking amazing"
The pressure on Danny to not only perform the stunts but to do it within the time limits for permits and with the cost of a large crew in tow is quite daunting.
I have to think that landing on his back and sliding along the ground took a good amount of skin off!
Should be doing it off the top step as he the top man !
What sort of bike is this
Would they let you ride any of the Golden Gate Bridge, now that would be something !
Wait we weren’t recording can you do it again??!!
Why did I get emotional when he landed it...
I've got bike trial 😊
3 wheels?! Wow
Would love to see that wheel explode close up where's the slowmo guys when you need em
@2:38 Union Made. Plenty Tough.
And how was your morning ? ..Yeah you know coffee , some Jam Toast and 546 Frontflips down the stairs... so nothing special :D ^^
It's very 😱hard
imagined doing another front flip with the broken bike still on the ground in the shot

How did Danny learn how to ride trials? is he self taught, or did he take lessons?
In one of the first episodes, there's video of him riding pallets in what appears to be his back yard, as he practiced for his mum. So I'm guessing he's self-taught.
Why carbon rims?
“Light, strong, cheap; pick two.” Seeing he has a wheels sponsor and miney is not an issue, carbon is lightweight and strong. Beats other alternatives on those 2.
@@RuudK but brittle… doesn’t mean alloy wheels wouldn’t have cracked, though…
See the video Danny made a few years ago where he tried to destroy a carbon rear wheel riding it bare down stairs, into curb edges, the works. It would NOT fail. Carbon rims offer much higher durability than most aluminum alloy.
I'd presume it's more of an issue of the wheels adhering to today's marketing where everything's 28 spoke - or less - and built to keep weight at a minimum. Those wheels are built up to sustain typical trials riding loads, not what Danny was putting them through in that landing. 40 spoke equivalent downhill rim in 20" would have taken the abuse better. But they probably don't make a 40 spoke carbon rim, nor a high spoke-count I9 hub either. Heck, I understand even finding 32 spoke mountain bike rims is getting harder and harder. 36 and 40 hole? No way.
Don't ride without the back guard. You need the neck guard too.
I think you watched the latest Bond Movie and decided to visit the island.
Maybe you wanted to sneak into the layboy mansion.
And second like
Fifth.
I love to watch Danny and think he's the greatest at what he does and shows in his passion but to drink RED BULL? YUCK, it is the nastiest tasting crap I've ever put to my tongue and taste buds. A van was parked outside the Bayliner Marine Corp. property where I worked, giving away Red Bull when it was first presented to the U.S. market and I took one from the Rep. and opened it and took a sip and I was so disgusted at the taste. I was so surprised that I coughed and it started coming out of my nose and I thought I'd never breath again. Just the other day I was at a quick stop (Convenient) store called Lil (Shell Gas Station)Pantry and it was for sale and I couldn't believe how much the stuff cost. I can drink a sprite while eating Pizza but other than water, YUCK! I'm not putting that crap in my body for no amount of money! Sorry Danny!
Who else is here from KienQuanCreates???
Disappointed... I was hoping to see a Sean Connery impersonation from at least on of you lads.

Do red bull professional athletes actually drink that toxic shit? I know they are contractually obliged to raise a can to their lips in their videos but I'd wonder if there is anything but water in it
kind of jerk
