  • The ESAB Volt is the first battery powered welder that is powered by rechargeable power tool batteries. This welder is a 200 Amp Stick Machine and DC TIG with live arc that runs on Dewalt flex Volt Batteries.
But the question that everyone wants to know is how long can you weld with the machine? So I decided to put it to the test in the Big Tire Garage by running it until it shuts down when the batteries die.

I learned to stick weld from my grandpa that only ever used a car battery in his garage. Try it, promise a car battery is way easier to move around and a lot cheaper than all that you have on the table. I admit what he did wasn’t precision welding. But in a pinch it got the job done.

Most of my welding is 100ft from an engine drive. I'm waiting for us to be handed one of these and an extra set of batteries, especially when we're working in an area where they don't want the engine noise/exhaust.
One question is when you're running it on 110V, can it recharge the batteries when you're not welding?

Depending on how the battery pack module is setup, if it is in series, this welder can draw full battery voltage out of the flexvolt batteries at 240 volts. In series parallel, that would be 120 which Milwaukee can't match.

Also what if you dont have tools that take dewalt batteries, do they make adapters for like Milwaukee batteries? Great for offroad use and light repair for sure.
