    The moment I saw our line up I understood Unai's thinking, he knew we were going to lose the match so why risk further injuries to key players for nothing? An excellent opportunity to experiment with others. A lot of positives, Tim wasn't embarrassed in comparison with the best in the world, Duran continues to develop, Diaby looking dangerous again. Not too disheartened.

      I don't think he would ever say or think "I knew we were going to lose", I don't think that is in his DNA, but I definitely agree we've decided to focus on Brentford & Lille games, and I am glad we did. The players were great 1st half, let down by a needless freekick & a weak wall; Individual errors, not down to Unai or the team. The 2nd half was 2 fantastic finishes from Foden. Nothing to be ashamed of. We played well overall, especially when considering the opposition & the players we had out and the players we rested.

    Massive media love for City because they won after resting Haaland and KDB. They have made zero mention of the injuries and squad rotation utilised by Villa. All in all it was a free hit and I would have rested Douglas Luiz from the start also. Of course there is now massive pressure to justify the rotation in the next couple of games but I can't fault Emery's logic at all.

    We HAVE to win our next two games against Brentford and Lille. So I think keeping Torres, Bailey and Tielemans on the bench wasn't a bad decision - we have too many injuries to risk players in a game we are highly unlikely to get anything. It also gives players like Rogers, Duran and Zaniolo chance to get minutes in a competitive game. And if we did get a result (which based on the first half, wasn't impossible) then even better.

    I was delighted emri played the team he did it was a free hit and players knocking on the door to play were given the finest chance to prove why they should be in the 1st team. Also to look at for next season too. Hopefully we win on Saturday and it was totally justified

    We want Champions League football if we get P4 in the Premiership but we haven't got the squad for such rigorous campaigns, the likes of city have, that and PSR & FFP is going to difficult in my book.
    Still a brilliant season for us.

    If win v Brentford, rest players again v arsenal and focus on Europe tie. Utds last 2 results have eased any pressure of them catching. Then, focus on getting 4 points v Bournemouth and Chelsea. Hopefully by then we know 5th is sealed for CL. Can then focus on winning Europa conference and put league on back burner and use them as training sessions and bleeding in the younger players ready for next year

    Aside from the injuries, I think Emery wrote this game off from the start. He was pragmatic about hoping for a tie at best, threw out some B team players to see what they can do but looking ahead to other matches already. But oh well.

    No aggressive tacklers without Kamara and Mcginn .. Hopefully the rest will work for us against Brentford ..

    There were players in that line up who were used as lambs to the slaughter. Out of all the matches certain players could have been given an opportunity Emery chose Man City away where those fringe players got thrashed. Poor man management.

    Nicely done John. Emery was right to put out the “B team”, I think Brentford is going to be a really tough match - they walked all over United (sadly the scoreline didn’t reflect that) - they are starting to get their injured players back and will be wanting to distance themselves from the relegation spots.

    Love Ramsey but to be fair I would replace him in the summer he's just way to injury prone, it's no good having a great player that just never plays unfortunately.

    • @joshuajones1793
      @joshuajones1793 Před měsícem +1

      I have a feeling he might be one of the players sold in the Summer if our hand is forced due to P&S rules! I do like Ramsey a lot but I'd rather sell him than the likes of Emi Martinez and Douglas Luiz! We have to keep hold of them both at all costs in my opinion!

  • @kelvinhill
    @kelvinhill Před měsícem

    I'm in the minority clearly but I don't like the idea of assuming you will lose and resting players 1 week after the international break. It doesn't guarantee anything against Brentford and everyone is talking about city as though they are unbeatable.....hmmm... didn't we beat them earlier in the season. I understand the whole resting players argument.... Martin O'Neil famously underestimated the fans opinion on it..... I hope this is the last time Emery does it

    • @OpenDoorEnglish
      @OpenDoorEnglish Před měsícem +1

      If more players were fit it wouldn't have been so radical but 8 players missing from one of the smallest squads in the league is rough stuff ans honestly it'll be better to go for it against Brentford and Lille.
