    I absolutely loved this two part series! I also caught on to the fact that the plant was very open to the camera. Everyone seemed to be very involved with their task at hand. Thanks for taking the time.👍

    We had a tour of the plant last July and were very impressed with the workers and the construction. We then ordered our Chaparral Lite 30 RLS. Fred and his team made us an excellent 5th wheel. We visited the plant during its construction, and were very happy with the entire process. Thank you Fred and team!

    This is definitely one of the more interesting and fascinating segments you’ve done bud. Very very nice. I never realized just what goes into these. It brings together all of the other points in your other videos of what works what doesn’t work quality etc.

    I enjoyed the video(s). What Coachman might want to think about doing is (and perhaps they do).... get ahold of a 5-7 year old unit and see how their work and materials held up in every day use (i.e. the real world). Just think... for most folks a 5-7 year old unit is not even paid off yet. They might be pleasantly surprised how well everything held up, but maybe not. Call it "Adi"... AFTER delivery inspection. Just sayin !

    I've seen other trailer manufacturer videos and they seem to be in a constant rush and it's no wonder quality varies and ultimately suffers. But after seeing this video I am definitely looking into this company to make my fifth wheel purchase. They seem to be building for quality not quantity.

    Well I learned something new. I thought the aluminum frame was welded altogether I didn't know that the sides were not welded to the front or back. I watched a super customer class C get built and it had a steel frame that was completely welded. Learn something new everyday this was a great video. Thanks for taking your time and doing this. Please keep up the good work.

    Most manufactures only do random PDI checks. However, if something id found, it doesn't mean they go back to check the units produced before it, only that they correct units from that point on. That translates to units being delivered with construction issues. Few companies inspect every unit from tip-to-toe. The ones that do are on the high price of the spectrum.

    Thank you for this series...i see there is at least one more as i scrolled to comments. My next question, if course, is customer service. I bought a trailer about 2 years ago and have gone nuts with this and that breaking or failing, so have not gotten to use it much at all, but customer service has been good. They have been polite and repaired and replaced as needed, but wait time for each problem is long! Glad i got the extended warranty! Still, the cost for me has been considerable, having to drive a 6 hour round trip and this next one, they need it 2 days. We have not actually camped in a year because of all of the repairs and time down. Only one thing was a mess up by those putting it together...even that was a part failure initially. But 3x I asked about it and was assured it was fine.. a gas leak. It finally was so bad, you could see it on hour hand! I was getting ready to put a flame to a stuck valve, and found the leak was much worse when i walked by on the way to try to fix the cable. Boy, that could have been some huge fireworks! And we live in a forest below a socked in community of about 250 people. It would have trapped them. Anyhow, it is mostly parts failures. The RV manufacturer is at the mercy of their parts suppliers. That must be tough, especially now. In our community we have had multiple business failures due to very poor help. They want pay, but do not want to work. Many applicants here cannot pass drug tests. One said 80% could not pass drug tests, so the manufacturer set up his own drug treatment program! So, i get it, just how hard it is to have a dream and then be able to carry it out in a world unfriendly (and often, unprincipled) to manufacturing anything. Blessings ...

    JD, I too have a Chaparral, 345BHS. Love my trailer but I had numerous problems fixed by the dealer just prior to the one year warranty expiration. It was only AFTER the warranty expired that I found my back wall had been leaking water from the clearance lights. And when I upgraded to the MorRyde SRE 4000, that's when I discovered a faulty brake that had NEVER worked from day one. Both factory problems and huge problems in my eyes. Safety and the ability to stop should be at the highest priority level. I have photos to prove it, and I still have the original faulty brake assembly. Suggestions? Do I have any recourse at this point in time?

    So they admit their PDI is used to look for compliance issues and to suggest changes in the next monthly production meeting. There are RV manufactures who put the customer first and have a PDI person at each stage of production. They catch problems before the unit moves on. Guess everything comes down to the production priorities, quality or quality. This tour has been quite illuminating. Thanks

    • @allenklingsporn6993
      @allenklingsporn6993 Před 5 lety

      I definitely agree that their PDI is probably an industry-worst quality standard. Most manufacturers in other industries have even been able to move away from in-process human inspections because they've spent the time and money to plan things right the first time.

    I'm impressed... I wanted to see how an RV was made from my favourite maker but then I found myself needing more info... The things that the President of Couchman goes through from day to day to make ends meet and, the ones under him that that make thoughts into reality along with those who create investments from the public and then those who sale it to those who need it... Is that not awesome...??? I sure think so... just like I told boost Mobile, I'm a customer for life.. might take a maricle from God to get a fifth wheel like that but, if it happens, I'll have the best one... 😁

    real good video series. The wife and myself will be looking to trade in our jayco bunk house fifth wheel soon and will be looking at the coachman series fifth wheel. I like how the sides are not luan plywood like my jayco which had a roof leak and the side swelled before I knew there was a rood leak. Got the leak fixed but it was too late. The side delaminated ans swelled up.
    We just bought a new chevy 2500 work truck with a 6.0 V8 and 410 gearing. I believe it can pull 14,000 pounds total. It pulls our 28 foot jayco no problem. Any suggustions on a coachman fifth wheel for 2 people to snow bird in the winter? Looking to sleep 2 people, maybe 2 more if we have visitors for a night or two. Just need a nice living room with tv and the rest to fit 2 people.

Its like a doctor giving you cholesterol meds without telling you to get in better shape as well.

      OK I understand what they are using their PDI process for. So who makes it work? Who makes sure the customer gets a fully functional unit?

    Are the doors for the outside storage compartments made from the wall cut-outs? If so, there would be no reason to skimp on the doors.

    I have a 2017 Viking 17FQ travel trailer by Coachman - The trailer is total garbage. Mold everywhere under the linoleum and I mean everywhere!!! Roof and cargo doors apparently leaked from day one and waterlogged nearly 2/3 rds of the floor, so I had to tear it all apart and replace the wooden framework. I did a video of the whole process of replacing their garbage. Took apart the front wall only to find the insulation didn't cover the whole cavity and when they ran the wiring for the front lights someone used a hammer to drill a hole that was eventually out of sight to the consumer and found their shotty work upon disassembly. Screws that were supposed to hit the center of 2x2 barely hit the boards of the bed frame. The storage doors at the front bottom of the trailer on both sides leaked like a waterfall, so I don't buy any of this crap of quality construction in this video. As one other person who commented said the narrator is easily impressed and boasts this product and sounds like he's got so much experience with what other manufacturers do that is sub-par to their construction. I ought to post up the video I shot and let the video speak for itself. All of this stuff is overpriced junk.........15 units a day huh? Yah, that's sound like quality control to me!!!

    I disagree with their approach to PDI. They are taking sample coaches, not ALL coaches, through PDI. So, assuming they find a problem in their PDI plant, like staples. Well, the samples are maybe every 1 in 100. That means 99 get shipped out with staple problems. That means 99 coaches are delivered to customers with that problem. In short, the factory accepts less than perfect as their standard. Who bears the brunt of that? THE CUSTOMER!

  • @trishjms

    Their PDI inspection needs some work. I recently bought a brand new Chaparral 373MBRB and the right tail light/blinker didn’t work. It was wired wrong at the factory and you would have thought that should have been caught if they did the PDI! Makes me wonder what other problems will pop up from the lack of quality control at the factory?

      The transport company that pulled your unit from manufacturer to dealer should have caught that and rejected the unit for transport until the issue was resolved.
      I am in the transport industry and I have refused several units both at the manufacturer and in our transport yard because of faulty lights.
      You would be amazed at how much is wrong with most units when they arrive at a dealer, some little scratches/scuffs are to be expected but I have seen wiring hanging out of the walls, fixtures not installed, bunk rooms literally falling apart from lack of support in slide out walls, awning arms installed crooked...

    • @trishjms
      @trishjms Před 5 lety

      I wish it was caught before I noticed it. I bought it 6 hours from my house and it was a pain to find a dealer to do warranty work since I bought it out of state. I called coachman and the guy I spoke to was basically like oh well. I know camping world gets a bad wrap, but they were the only dealer in the Charlotte area that would help me. It took them a couple weeks, but at least they fixed it for me.

    Of cause this tour was sugar coated they knew when you were going to be there the staff would have been told in advance of your arrival and also would have been told to smile when approached.JD if you are in the market for a new fth wheeler then buy one of those that you have just videoed because after you left it would be back to normal routine faster faster faster.

    I see a lot of staples missing their mark. The stair frame build is cheap and using OSB for the steps will fail over time. I wouldn't buy anything made buy Coachmen from what I see. The box frame for the bed in the slide out looks cheap.
