I ran a commercial painting company for 35 years. Had as many as 25 man crew at a time. We were pioneering many of the spray techniques in the early 80's. Today I would require every one of my painters to watch these videos. This guy is good. I'll never forget the first time we field sprayed metal door frames for a big commercial job. As they were pulling them off the truck we lined them up in rows so you could walk through the opening. A three man crew sprayed over 500 door frames that day. No one had seen anything like it. I bid the job at $30 a frame. All we had to do was a little touch up after they were installed. I banked some coin that day boys. Like he says "get an automobile finish". I learned fast to hire guys that had done auto painting. They could switch to airless easy.
What state were you working in at the time?
I used to paint fighter aircraft in the Air Force some years back. I can sling some paint but never used an airless system. I'm now a disabled Combat Vet and on a fixed income. Gotta do stuff myself if I want it done cheap. I gotta finish painting the inside of my home and I'm thinking about buying an airless system. Bit of a learning curve but the techniques are about the same. Looking forward to playing around with one. I've rolled most of the house already...it sucks. I can do it, but if spraying is easier, I'll spend the coin. Might be able to pick up some side money too.
@@sgtrickards5683 dude if you can ude a hvlp gun you can use acirless sprayer. Its not to hard. Go for it buy the lil graco speaywr not the lil gun sprayer its like $350 . Good luck and thanks for you service . Airforce brat and patriot. One love

I usually don’t leave any comments but This video was so great and informative. It Answered every single question I had about painting trim. You guys rock.
Great video Chris. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You have helped so many people. Rock on!
Hey thank you for the video. Currently working on my reputation before i official launch a small painting business for myself. Still have allot to learn and i find watching these videos helpful.
Thank for always making everything so clear an easy !
Your doing well educating people on this skill set. Keep it up.
Love your videos and you are an inspiration I can tell you love what you do. Just got my HEA valve and its awsome.
Chris, you have taught me SO much! But, backatcha, one for you:
I have one of those long reach, angled 3" brushes with the 3' wooden handle. It has never seen paint because it has always been my go-to baseboard duster, allowing me to clean them without ever bending over!
We oldsters need that!
I love when someone has mastered there trade and teaches it in detail with explanation .
I'm A production piece painter. Great explanation of the differences. I use a 515, 517 & 625. 1515 for undercoat and enamel of trim and doors, 517 for most exterior work as well as 515. 625 for ceilings and primering walls. That 311 is awesome wish I could use it with my Titan 8900 plus.👍🏽
Do you cut old caulking out before applying new ?
New subscriber here. I have lots of experience in my own homes, but I am about to offer small interior jobs at great prices to get started on my own. These videos help me to know I am on the right track. Now I just need to figure out how to market myself to get small jobs to start. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
You deserve more recognition man
I am so completely brand new to painting. I recently acquired a position for a company out here in Missouri.
I really enjoy watching your videos, I find you to be extremely helpful in all the things I've pondered since starting my new position here.
Keep putting content out there, your amazing and you really know how to talk, paint. Such passion!
Thank you!!

Congrats on yoir new position
Loved it!! Shared it with my sons..as im also teaching them to paint. I personally love to paint i find it very satisfying, prep work not to fun, but thats all part of the process...thanks again
“Prep work not fun”… amen to that! 😂😂😂
Brother, you're like a father to us. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your support
I just want to say thanks for all your videos. I bought a house and have been painting every room including popcorn ceilings and heavily stained dark trimmed and doors. I bought a magnum X5 sprayer and have been laying down the oil based stain blocker. I also painted all the kitchen cabinets (NIGHTMARE) But I really don't think I could have done it all without your videos. Thanks again.
Very informative, practical: great to sit down with a "soda" with a insightful Teacher....
My new go to guy! just found your website online I'm going to buy the Titan 440 starter kit, in about 2 weeks from now can't wait to see what that bad boy can do.
I just looked up how to bid a job n 3 or 4 videos later back to back... here I am lol. Good job sir you know how to explain very thoroughly.
God bless you all and thank you, I'm getting my house ready to sell and wasn't going to pay $12,000 for someone to paint it for me. So I'm going to buy a Graco airless sprayer and some extensions and tips you recommended. Also a Clean Shot Shut-off valve. I will wipe down and tape off as you demonstrated. I will be watching this several times before everything arrives to make sure I've got it all right and will be checking out more of your videos. Again God bless you for your help.
Great Upload! Learned a ton and ready to spray.
Thanks for the help and for your time.
Thanks for showing your pro tips!!
Thank you for the info!
Love the content. I've learned so many things from these video. Everything is explained really well and it makes sense. Thank You!
Thank you for sharing and watching!
I have to say you are the utmost professional because half the stuff you explained I couldn't say with a straight face . Yep that's me perpetual child lol . I don't wanna grow up , but you sir are a gentleman.
I always support this videos, the other day a saw some haters talking crap on someone else doing this. Because didn't want people to learn what they learn they whole life, time change and this platforms change the world. And Cristiano is the best at painting.
New builds are alot of fun with sprayers
I love when John Cena teaches useful things. Amazing video!
jajaja
I didn't see anyone teaching.
I don't think it was John Cena.
When hes about to come off the cycle 15 years later
Omg I never put that together! I know he looked familiar for some reason!😂😂
Love this guy so easy to learn from I'm just getting into spraying I'm a handy man out here in the Hamptons lol and these folks are perfect they picky but pay you whatever u want.
What are fish eyes?
super pro job! great demo
I appreciate your video, a lot of things to learn !!! could you explain more about which kind of paint (water based or oil based) to apply for wall ( bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, room for kid....) , for cabinets , for inside & outside door, ........etc .
Thanks very much, Sir !
Stayed until the end and saw the toner trim. Thanks for the compilation. Buying a Graco sprayer and this gives me good confidence
This is a fantastic video!! Subscribed!
Great video brother. Keep them up
Subscribed good information very helpful
one of my favorite painters
Hello from Vancouver, Canada. Great teaching videos. Just subscribed your channel. Thanks for your videos my brother in Christ
Your videos are great and very informative
Good stuff brother thanks 👊🏼
What a great video, just in time for me. I never used an airless sprayer before or masked anything, but after watching you teach the girl and then watching her do it, I believe I can do this now. I just landed a job in million dollar home to repaint the entire house inside, I'm a little nervous but if She can do it, so can I. I'm going out a purchasing the same airless sprayer as you have. Wish me luck! Just kidding, I love all of your videos, you are a very good teacher and you teach the right way, no half stepping. God Bless. Keep the vids coming.
Thanks for the video, I just got done a day from hell of learning my new sprayer on Cabinets. You make it look so easy that I am looking forward to getting past the primer now lol. Man I wish I could apprentice for a week with you.
Just takes practice
What do you think about the Avanti AP S1 Airless Sprayer?
Very helpful thank you
Like your work ethic...
Thanks for the "Tips"🙂
I get it
Life is simple. I see a Paint Life video, I click like and watch.
Spraying is important....but I always find the sanding, dusting, vacuuming, tack clothing more critical when ur trying to achieve the butter like finish.
Of course.....Prep is always the key to a professional job!
Learning a lot he is inspiring.
Awesome video Thank you very much .
41:41 BEST MUSIC for video MATCH EVER!!! Nice job!
Ive done auto refinishing for 35 years. A graco airless with a 210 or 310 FF tip lays down urethane trim paint as good as some of the best automotive products I've used..
Great content. Thank you.
Thanks for your tips, you silenced alot of arguments put to me from customers. You made me a lot of money along the way. Paint life TV all the way. :) tx...JOHN san francisco 415 keep um coming brother.
How did you make out spraying oil based? Ready to do a 5500 sq ft house interior and afraid I may be in over my head!
The 3 doors, now maybe you weren't done or due to re spray as opposed to new but to avoid voided warranty on doors all 6 surfaces must be painted, molded doors will wick moisture from edges. love your channel.
So, my guess is you gave her a fresh pair of your painter pants and logo T shirt. You guys are rockin it
Thank you! Amazing. 🚀
One little trick I use when I'm orbital sanding the faces of baseboard to protect the tape that's down just have a 2 or 3 ft section of roll flooring and just kind of keep it moving along with you as you're sanding so you don't burn your tape it's a nice little added layer of protection I knew a guy that would cut the 16th of an inch off of his sanding disc for his orbital and that would keep the edge of the paper disk from ripping the tape that works good too
I have been following and enjoying your channel for a little bit now, was very impressed with your knowledge when it comes to cabinets from your hanging technique and the supplier you are representing. Here is my question; when it comes to airless spray technique and the masking of your floor, why wouldn't you hand sand the faces because there didn't seem to be that many issues from the previous paint job this way you only have to clean once before masking. When you demonstrated on proper technique with the caulking gun, in cutting the tube using the razor equiped with the gun, why didn't you use a razor blade which gives a cleaner cut and does not leave that little ridge at the end of the the tube? My other question is, why would you use an extension on your spray gun that is only 6", isn't it more effective and production oriented to use a 3' spray wand with a knuckle attachment at the end of the pole for the baseboards? This same setup can also be used on most of your ceilings and walls. Its less weight than the attachment you are using when spraying your ceilings. When spraying your doors, you show that same small extension being used. Most journeymen professionals know its all in the wrist...the extension seems to make that technique, which is proper, a little difficult to achieve. Where is the swivel to your whip? I know there is one attached to your gun but most professionals understand that a Silver gun with a swivel attachment to the whip is far more effective. The Silver gun has a more effective way of filtering your paint, ie. Rack-5 with a filter that you put in the tip of the gun is a more cost effective and cleaner way to spray a fine finish. My last question, is why you would use a stir stick on top of the door and spray against the walls that are going to be painted instead of numbering and hanging the doors in a circle using a mounting system provided by Sherwin-Williams? Again, more cost effective and faster and you don't have to worry about a mil thickness issue or sanding your walls.
Thanks
Production sprayer from Arizona having sprayed an excess of 4000+ homes.
One last thing; you know you have to paint the top and bottom of the doors, it seems you have skipped this step.
painting is the most underated time consuming work in finishing a house...I love how people say oh you just need a fresh coat of paint like its just so easy......3-4 coats later your exhausted
you're*
Dude, use the Paint and Primer in one, 4 coats of paint, lol.
@@AJ-ds5gf thanks Einstein I would not survive without you!
@@MSteitz468ify I've been painting 40 years and these days most of the good paints are paint & primer, all in one. But there's many different types of surfaces where that just won't cut it. And you need to put a good thick coating of primer before top coating, otherwise the finish coat will sink in and it'll look awful.
Thanks for sharing your videos, I really like them, thanks to you I got my first Titan Airless sprayer, I haven't used it yet, I'watching videos on ... Now, please I'd like to know where I can get the extention pole, and brand to look for it... Thanks a lot for your help...
Great info. It seems pretty easy for square edge trim but how do you do complicated profiles with small tight groves in the moldings? Keep up the great info.
Helpful video..ty!
You are welcome
New subscriber. Videos are awesome! You have mastered your craft.
Thanks and welcome
I do painting myself and you do make sense to me on your videos
thanks
I’m buying the green hose extension, it’s a real pain the mobility of the spray gun with the regular hose
If you would plz let me know what you think ab it I have problems with mine to swivels that don’t want to turn an such an will it covert from a triton gun to a graco gun
Hi . Thank you for your videos , what would be the advantage of using the 6" extension on the gun ?
When spraying move like a Shaolin monk.. works like a charm 😂
Great video!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love this video thanks...just wondering if you ever done a video from bare wood to final coat?
Nice video I’m using a Wagner sprayer with hea 311 tip for trim but can’t get a good finish without runs, watching you guys you seem to be putting way more paint on how do u avoid runs?
Free learning the best learning 👍 thank you for the video
Glad you enjoyed it
nice work
Man...great info.
I haven't watched the whole video yet. I do have a comment about New Construction which I'm about to get in to. In my construction laborer days we would have to scrape windows cause they mostly all had windows before they get cased then we paint. Maybe it's our way if doing it in Michigan but we always have windows installed as soon as the rough framing gets finished and passed
Good video, thanks. I miss Sun Valley ,
main thing with spraying is don't stop moving while trigger is pressed.....some in their first few times freeze on a spot, never stop moving the gun when paint is coming out.....rest just takes time and experience but its not too bad, obviously some stuff is harder to spray than others (like clear laquer)…..a lot of cabinets and trim out here is primer ( color of your choice) and clear laquer over it ( sheen of your choice)…..primer sticks really well and laquer gives it protection and sheen
Jazz I would love to have these guys paint my house. They are probably real expensive, however they deserve it. I’m currently trying to learn this stuff so I can paint my house correctly. I haven’t been able to find good painters around me. They turds that painted my house did all the stuff that your not supposed to. It looks like they painted right over dirt on my base boards.
Great videos. Question: When spraying lacquer don't you need to shut off all sources of fire? Pilot lights, furnace, water heater, etc. Danger of explosion correct?
The Idaho painter and his crews are so good and so experienced, I've been painting and drywalling for over 22 years now and work for an amazing painting company myself, I live in Washington in kitsap county and work for sablehaus west painting, we use the same tips to, sometimes on our big interiors we'll have doors set up in different areas in rooms with the trim and window wraps in the rooms, I'll use the 310 for my trim and window wraps then will have a 410 in my pocket and just switch my tip for my doors, the orifice is the same, just an 8 inch pattern so don't have to go back to the pump to adjust pressure, I always check my pattern also on a piece of floor paper tacked to the wall, you always want to check your pressure, tip wear, pattern on paper first , never not do these things and just start spraying, if someone just starts spraying and things aren't right you'll see everything underneath your finish and it's a huge mistake. Listen to the Idaho painter, he knows what he's talking about without question.
thanks for your support
@@Idahopainter absolutely✌️!
I just found you. Thanks. For the videos.
This is a great video
Receive my t-shirt, love it, when painting interior should the trim be done first when spraying or brushing?
I'd love to see you do a review on the harbor freight professional avanti max 821 paint sprayer run it through the paces and give a honest review...awesome videos by the way
I want to know how the painted bedliner from 3yrs ago is holding up.
Chris I have 1 other question for you at the end of this video you and your sidekick is doing a stain on trim when spraying any type of stains on wood the over spray that hits walls does that effect paint when you then paint the walls? Mixing the 2 I was wondering if that causes any type of issues there thanks a million bud! Love you guys work and ethics!
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Good job... Thank u
Great video.
I was an apprentice painter in the Bay Area in 1988 thru 91. And we never sprayed baseboards or door casings. In fact we barely sprayed inside a home unless it was a popcorn ceiling. And with exteriors we’d spray and always either back roll or back brush. It’s amazing how things have changed.
I have a handyman business today where I do many different types of trades because I’ve worked construction most of my life, but I’m always battling the internal conflict of masking time and prep for spraying interiors vs just using a bucket and screen and a brush. So many times it seems like a wash when it comes to cost of masking materials and time spent on all the masking vs just rolling out or brushing. It’s just me working out in the field too. I think it would definitely be easier masking if I had an assistant tho.
How say you??
I was a painter in the 70's and 80's in the high end Bay Area. Never did we spray inside. Trained by my pop, an Italian housepainter. Forearms like Rocky Marciano! We were are still are the best!
@@mikevignoli6687 where at in the bay?? I worked in San Mateo, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, San Carlos area.
Bob benson and sons painting was one of the outfits I worked for.
I agree, there is always that internal conflict after 15 years just bought a sprayer and although the finish is finer. What with the dust and having to wear a mask even then the health implications I'm not sure it was worth it. I enjoy brushing and rolling. A day spent rolling and brushing trim is way less stressful and more enjoyable than spraying. We'll see if I change my tune as I get faster in masking but I've already easily doubled maybe tripled my tape, plastic and paper cost.
@@RyanRickles yeah I’m still not sold on spraying being the end all, be all..
I have a question on the section where you’re dialling in tips at about 10 minutes.. do those gauges come with a standard purchase of the titan 440 impact or is that something you need to purchase seperately?
Love the content I’m learning so much.
Bought me one of those whips just now, I hope it really works like you say! Sole proprietor here and have about 1,500 gallons to blast thru this summer! It could help me so much. Thanks! New sub too!
Thank you for your support🤙
@@Idahopainter I got my whip early and got to use it yesterday. Helped me so much in the hallways and closets. Now I'm buying a paintlife shirt 😁✌️
Great channel.
You have a lot of tips in this video!
Thanks
How would be best way to patch painted wood surface like base board dents and nicks or painted cabinet doors? Also filling cabinet handle holes that are worn, so I can re-drill holes for handles?
I liked the idea with the paint stick to hold door off the wall.
Thanks for the video. I don't get how sash windows can be sprayed like that when closed without missing the overlapped portions. Please advise how that problem is dealt with.
Noticed a problem when you were shooting doors against the walls. Had a problem years ago where the paint contractor sprayed all the doors in the house in the laundry room, against one wall. That ended up with a major snafu. The wall was a mess of lacquer build up. Entire wall had to be floated and re-textured. Don't suggest spraying against existing walls without protection before you start shooting multiple coats of new finish.
Chris your videos are great. I been a painter for a long time. What is you opinion on what is the best material to give a new rough sawn wood patio a white was look? It must be able to withstand the elements outside. I look forward to future vidios
Also, on the wood trim that's stained. If I was to be painting it, what product would you use first? I usually use an oil based primer instead of latex cause it stops bleeding. I also use Bin, too, cause it covers the stain but drys quickly. Is that good or is there a better product or better way?
Nice, liked and followed
Good job guys 👏👏👏
Thanks🤙
