- With so many car shops in the world that sell parts and restore vehicles it is hard to stand out. Detroit Speed located in North Carolina is one of the most impressive shops I've ever gotten to visit. Their C3 Corvette development car is an autocross masterpiece. Driving this 1972 C3 feels like you are driving a modern car but in a retro time capsule. Detriot Speed does research and development for all of their products and it truly shows. So what's it like driving the perfect C3? Let's go for a drive and find out! Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday!

What’s your dream restoration?
Sunbeam Tiger. My grandpa had one when I was a kid and it was beautiful.
dream resto would have to be a 1968 - 70 dodge charger R/T I'd love to build one of those into a wicked street strip car!
supra mk4...
66 GTO in burgundy, with a 4 on the floor. My dad has wanted one for as long as I can remember, and I have always wanted to make it happen for him.
I’m restoring and modifying a 1990 isuzu amigo right now! Lowered, turbo with a bikini top 🔥
I hate how people let the 180hp C3 ruin the generation so much that they forget there was a 460hp C3
And two different 560 HP engines.
Those stock 180hp c3s are asking to be turned into of period greenwood Corvettes....that's what I would do at least......
I'll be honest I'll take an 180hp c3 because it's my favorite generation Corvette and I know I can't afford the better C3s lol
@@Murica_gaming I would love one as well just to experience a C3
@@Cyberdeamon I'm on the market for a c3 or c4 rn they're not the best Vettes but at the end of the day it's still a Corvette lol
I already wanted one but now I want one even more. This is a C3 restomod done right!
Yea. It’s perfect
That exhaust wow
matt farah drove this vette years ago on his one takes
You should review Bladed Angels Corvette Z06! That sound it makes is unforgettable!
I want him to re-rice first 😂😂
Yessir indeed
Yes and “sound” is everything. Forget handling. Forget power and torque. Stopping? Who cares. JuSt GiVe Me ThAt SoUnD.

Well if you want to be a buzzkill…
Great to see gen 3 vett and Camaro getting love recently
He is one of the few guys when someone else is driving his car he’s not constantly looking at the tach and speedometer! Just sitting back and enjoying the ride!
Why the surprise? The C3 has to be the best looking Corvette. Followed by the C4
now THAT is what stance should be
You could spend a month reviewing Detroit Speed's garage and I'd be in heaven 😍 they do some amazing work
I saw the Corvette in Mooresville yesterday. It's a driver, it's all business and I just couldn't stop snapping pictures. I'd social class this car with a less desirable bit purpose built Ferrari Mondial or a 308. Stars and stripes are quite subtle compared to the way they look in the video. This car was freaking awesome, solid, wild and amongst some very meticulously maintained show cars, this one stood out with all it little track chips and a small peel on the bumper wrap. I'd pay to drive this car for 10 minutes.
c3 is actually my favorite corvette ever since i was a baby. its the first car i ever drew with my dad lol.
I love the c3 body lines, really all the corvettes are great to me, i've liked them ever since i can remember, i promised my grandpa i would get a blue 2002 vette and i will hold to it
Why 2002?
TrashBandit 24 c5
@@tylerf6528 I know, just wondering why specifically that year
I would love to see you do reviews of old muscle cars and just more old and classic cars in general
Really miss the House of Muscle uploads. Mike reviewed this car and another from them awhile back. Wicked builds !
I saw this car years ago, still in love
If this is one of those "I went to a shop and drove a few of their cars" situations, I hope you got to drive their flat plane crank Camaro, that thing is the nastiest sounding V8 on earth.
It’s not flat plane crank tho. It’s just a 4.8 crank in an ls7 block
@@zerohourdrift Huh, I didn't know that, I had seen someone mention that it was flat plane somewhere in the past and didn't really question it. All I know is, Mast builds some ansolutely fantastic engines
Spencer Vance yup it’s a mast motorsports destroked engine. I do agree tho, it’s an amazing sound and I want one bad af😂
C3 Corvettes are beautiful! & This one is Amazing!
I've seen this one many times at my local autocross. It sounds so nice. and handles amazing
You guys should be in Savannah, GA because there are tons of these! 😂
Yep literally saw a white c3 on bay street last weekend
I’m building a 1978 camaro with full dse front suspension and mini tubs, love how nice the products look
These guys put out masterpieces.
I think that particular body shape C3 with the rear window is the best looking corvette there ever was! I had no idea it was a decisive model, whats wrong with people!
With some cars it seems people like to judge the entire generation based on the worst years. The C3, C4, and 3rd gen F bodies suffer gearly from that nonsense while Fox body Mustangs and 2nd gen F bodies seem to have the opposite effect.
I on a c6 zO6 but I crave the C3 I lost as a kid
Sat in a room full of my friends, I was the only person that likes the look. Some think c5 looks better despite that gen looking like a plastic car scaled up.
I'm glad that guy and I pronounce "Livery" the same way.
315 square. Wow!!!! Awesome car to review
Oh my god, I rode in this car 3 years ago at Goodguys Autocross and it was WILD. I then proceeded to burn my leg on the exhaust when I got out.
I saw this car race at the Goodguys Duel In The Desert autocross event for a few years in a row, cool to see it being reviewed on this channel
Love the Detroit Speed Deca-link, just hope my frame can handle it
Love that people are taking these old cars and reworking them to make them perform way better than the original! So cool!
As a UK guy, we don't get much V8, and I don't think it's that popular here, but DAYUMNNNNNNNN this thing sounds and looks awesome.
Cool C3 Love the Wrap
I love this so much. I want one bro.
Classic Protouring actually looks age appropriate on David...🏁👍
So this is what Cyrus meant when he said he had work to do...
I LOVE 💘💗 THIS CAR!!!!
I saw this car in person!!! I saw it at the Ocean City Cruisin in 2018.
Review CZcamsrs cars. Make that a series
This is dope
Looking forward to seeing more of the rides! Sorry about your voice, lol.
Old men: Oh yeah the C3 looks horrible. Its so slow. They messed up in the design! Nobody want's these and their dirt cheap!
Youth/Young adults: Hey that car looks good! I want one to lower it, make it faster and track it or have a nice car for every now n then,
Also C3: Clapped out, rusted, horrible paint, not even running. $13k OBO I know what I have.
Yeah most rollers should cost more than 3k imo
The older generation loves the pre-smog C3. Those are some of the most collectable Corvettes. They're actually able to understand the difference between them and the less desireable malaise years unlike a lot of the younger guys.
Nicholas Rodrigues most of them are stored as a collectors car and never see the light of day which imo is sad and should be driven. That’s what their meant for. On top of that, even if their driven daily, they are kept stock with almost everything outdated as in suspension, bushings, stock ride height, etc. As a younger car enthusiast, this is where I start to dislike the older car community. Drive your cars hard like they should be and don’t be afraid to modify them
Sebastian b old people are dying to hold on to the past baa dum tss
@@sebastianb5997 the point of owning an old car is the experiance of owning an old car. If you want modern, you're better off buying modern. And you don't buy a desierable car and then make major changes to it. You do that to less desireable versions.
Also, daily driving anything cool is grossly over rated.
I really hope you got to drive the DSE Z!!!
Its a DogBox, David, No-Clutch It !!
C3 with a modern engine done up all purty? Yes please!
hi David. nice vid. liked b4 watching b/c I knew it was going to be good
Hey man I love my C4 ok
C4 is my favorite gen. Specificly 89-91. Nice, simple TPI engines with the ZF 6 speed.
I've come here before I watch but please review DSE-Z
I’ve seen this C3 before🤔 was it in matts one take?
It's been reviewed a lot lately
Great video. It would be cool if you reviewed their Blue IROC Camaro. That thing is sick.
RS, not IROC
Nicholas Rodrigues I know it stared life as a red RS donor car. But they clearly modeled it to resemble an IROC. They even call it the “DSE-Z”
@@Deez30224 still not an IROC
Nicholas Rodrigues I know it’s not an IROC. But it was made to look exactly like an IROC. I know what an IROC is. I’ve had 2 of them. They started off with a base model RS donor car and put the IROC ground effects and stripes on it. So it looks exactly like one. They even named it the “DSE-Z” (Detroit Speed Engineering Z-28 instead of “IROC-Z” (International Race Of Champions Z-28). It started life as a RS but looks like nothing like one now. It looks like an IROC. If you didn’t know the history of that car you would have now idea what it stated life as.
Wow
cool
Wow that's a crazy C3
ikr
Looking to get a c3 as my first car and I can't wait ❤️
don't mod it to the point where u can't handle it
Theyre fun but theyre raw. Avoid the autos. Check the birdcage! I owned a 77 4 speed and it was a wonderful car.
@@BobThe9534 I was thinking modern brakes, modern suspension, and an l59 vortec with a carb to start. That's not too much for a start, right?
DOUGI FRESH I wouldn't say so, I would think that's a great start! Good luck!
@@dougifresh4422 that sounds like a great place to start. also, look into getting an dual 12" spal electric fans. huge overheating issues with these cars. there's a forum group on facebook called "budget C3 builds" and it's the most helpful one I've been in
I can understand but at the same time hate the classic car enthusiasts who MUST keep the car original as possible even if it means crappy outdated components
I can understand that people like it all oem, but it's so cool to see a "remaster" of a platform with modern tech and passion behind it.
See I understand why some people want their cars to be all original, but to me the car isn’t treated like a car unless if they have modded it or driven it hard. Like if you build a classic muscle car a lot of people will do headers, exhaust, and upgrade the air pan and carburetor. This will make the car more responsive and powerful, but most importantly more valuable. Like I get why people might buy a 10 mile LaFerrari and let it sit, just because it’s gonna appreciate in value, but it is a shame for a car not to be driven.
@@davidkelley751 same I know in the future I'd definitely hold on to my old ass 90s/2000s car, but I'd definitely want it upgraded and customized to keep up with new stuff
Jdm Zibby fair point, but like the 60s muscle cars they are cool to keep mostly stock, because even though they aren’t lighting fast they are still feel raw and untamed, which is why people like them mostly original.
However I prefer the reliable modified version where you fast, but still worthy of daily driving.
You must be pretty fucken dense.... The whole point of owning a vintage car is to experience the time capsule effect....... You hop in a 1969 Alfa gulia GTA, your back at 1969...they are perfectly imperfect. And in some cars there's no greater feeling then the factory feel. Aircooled 911s are known to drive better factory then modded.... Even the ones that are factory restored don't feel as good.... And in most cases the driving experience is very rewarding.......and real driving is analog driving; Manuel steering, double clutching, heel and toe, left foot braking, the smell of fuel, the rattle and shaking from the drivetrain nothing feels like vintage.......... And lastly your preserving history........
bro my heart hurts i want to do this to my c3 soooooo bad i just cant afford it
SO CURVYYYYY
What does L88 mean? Is that a package like Z51 or is that a motor reference ?
That's an engine option code
@@lb9gta307 So what is the option? More spark plugs?
@@Motleymick it was Chevy's baddest street engine in the late 60s untill they came out with the ZL1 which was basicly the same engine but with an aluminum block.

Chevy Bel air 1955. Nothing to ¨crazy¨. keeping it stock.
David Lescarbeau there’s no such thing as an all stock 1955 bel air they all have crate motors turbo 350 transmissions american racing wheels and restored interiors

why does everyone dunk on the c4?
C4 my fav
Because, in general, boomers were scared off by the EFI and the younger generations seem to be scared off by the SBC.

LS swap? Didn’t they come with a LS?
Not in the 70's, they came with alot of engine configurations, last one i saw had the L-82 engine.
Layton LeMay lol why do you see them swapped at car shows so much you can’t tell the difference?
mr.namehere I think it was a joke. If not I’m horrified

Some came with an LS5, some came with an LS6 (both 454ci big block Chevys), and some came with an LS9 (350ci small block Chevy)
6 minutes ago, never been this early
just turn on notifications and u can come within a minute or it being uploaded
C3 and fox body mustang's the worst parts of late 70's and the 80's along with tarded American flag paint jobs smh these are things 80 year old men love lol
First comment!!!
Hey David I've got a car I think you'd love BTW
not quite!
Congrats!
So close. You'll get it next time!
guys, he got 1st comment, just sort newest first and go all the way to the bottom
Would have been significantly cooler with a SBC rather than that cookie cutter LS
Aluminum big block would of been sweet !
Review fat daddys EVO III
Y'all are so out of sync with each other it's almost funny. Asking questions that have been answered, going on about the C3 being the least appreciated Vette when they clearly appreciate them. Can't take this channel serious.
Shut up
Why put all that money into a c3? 🤮
Because stock it’s a rather good handling classic car that looks awesome, why not make it handle better and look cooler?
Because people can put money into anything they want.....I mean you should know that seeing as how you have 2 valve in your name 🤣
Cars like this one make me hope Trump wins. The Green New Deal will take
performance cars back to the late 70s early 80s and you will not be
able to modify them at all :(
Ugly paint job.. it takes a coordination of effort to visually screw one up that badly.
