    Great to save an old friend and part of the family. Great job on the build. I'm looking at something similar with a 53 flat fender power wagon. It's my dads truck. Thanks for sharing all the work.

    Sir, I applaud you for taking the photos as you did the work. I also applaud you for the reasoning for doing the build..... Before I read the comments, I was going to ask why the Caprice frame/chassis was chosen (as it is such a different style than the original). However I read your comment on the topic that you gave to a previous comment. Regardless of what you ultimately chose, I am glad to hear that you did the research. Many people seem to not do that.........I can definitely relate to the backstory for your desire to do the build........ When I got out of school, my grandpa gave me a '54 3100 that he had. It hadn't run in years. Bed was a complete mess. Frame was broken on the passenger side just ahead of the rear end. But the cab and front sheet metal was fairly straight, with just a single fist size rust hole where the firewall and floor met in the corner of the passenger side. Anyway, sorry to ramble.😁 I had that truck from '83-'03, working on it through the '80s. Loved that old friend. I put it on a mid-'70s C10 frame/chassis, modifying what I needed to. Replaced the original 235 inline six and 4-spd with a 1966 283 & 4-spd. Didn't build it to be fast, not a show vehicle. Just a dependable driver. Wish I still had it. But that's life....... Again, congrats!😎👍

    Hi Dan I'm an April model 62. In Australia GM came over and drew up plans for our first production car. It was called a Holden 48-215 FX-FJ manufactured from 48-53 if you type these numbers in you will see the resemblance to your beloved Chevy 3100. I wish I had my dads cars we had a sedan and a panel van. It was a great era and time went a lot slower. Love your work and your country I'm keen to visit do some hunting, fishing and a fleet side 53.

      Hi Alf, I took a look at the Holden pics. I think I've seen them in some older movies from Down under. I've often thought it would be great to visit your country but will probably never get the chance. Just finished a little hunting here, came home empty handed this year. Good luck with your restoration.

    Great job Daniel. Way to save an old friend. To know you've owned it your whole life is something. I'm saving a 47 Chevy truck at the moment as well. If you want to check it out you can see it at SWRNC. My buddy Pete is making videos of my build.I'm honored to have a featured build on his channel. So check it out if you want. Your Caprice chassis seams to work really well. Can't wait to see it with the rinning boards on. At first I thought you didn't have much rust, but then there it was. Good job on your repairs. Very nice PCM box as well. I was impressed. Anyway your rock in it out dude. Can't wait for the next rocking update!!! Keep Rocking!!!

      Hi Pat, I'm a fan of Pete and a subscriber to his channel. I'm enjoying your videos right now, Haven't watched them all yet but am working on them. with any luck I'll see them all by the end of this weekend. I think your doors are off a 53. I'm not a body guy or even a car guy but I learned as I went made shit up along the way and it turned out well. I need to lift the bed off the change the fuel sending unit and add a trailer hitch while I'm in there. I've taken mine on a few road trips and drive it almost every day. Oh yeah, I used to play a mean bass but it's been a few years. Take care and keep rockin.

    All those kids in the back of a 1 sided flatbed / pick-up? Today DCF would have your father in jail and the kids in foster homes. My God, how did we ever survive?

      I use to load all my nieces and nephews in the back of my 50 Chevy Pick Up and tap on and off the gas while in 1st gear. The granny gear would make my truck really jerk forward and everyone got a thrill out of it. You're right.. probably would get arrested these days.

    Well, it's your truck, so do what you want with it. But it's too bad you couldn't appreciate it for what it was.

    • @Ltdan62

      Hello Mr Viking, Thanks for your thoughts. I spent two years with this in my garage as I considered all my options. To restore or rebuild, different frames swaps, engines, automatic or stick, and driving convenience. I wanted a truck I could jump in and drive anywhere and that's what I built. It's been on two long distance road trips and does 85 on the highway all day long. I've lived with this truck since 1962 and appreciated it for what it was, and since 2010 I appreciate it for what is is. A great ride.

    What steering column did you use. And the pictures a little hard to tell did you cut the floor panel and fab a new piece to for the new column and pedals? I'm purchasing a 48 3600 and I would like to do this swap but I'm having issues finding a good write up

      @Ltdan62  Před 4 lety +1

      There is no information on using a caprice frame. The key is placing the cab the correct distance from the front wheels and everything else is measured off the cab.

    • @Ltdan62
      @Ltdan62  Před 3 lety +1

      I used the column out of the caprice I was able to use the caprice mounting hardware to the dash. and I cut the fire wall from the caprice for the brake booster and the steering column mounts.

    Why a caprice frame?

    • @Ltdan62
      @Ltdan62  Před 7 lety +4

      I spent two years researching frames and conversion, kits and options. If I went with an s10 frame I would have to change the rear axle ad spacers to the front, drive shaft motor mounts, so on and so forth. I found the caprice had a 119" wheel base and a 59" wheel track. all I had to do was measure center of the front wheels to the front cab mounts and reproduce this distance on the caprice. the rest just fell into place after that. For instance all I had to do was mount the front bumper brackets upside down and they fit perfectly on the front of the frame. I did remove about 10 inches from the front and back of the frame.

      Did you shorten the Middle of the frame? Or did the wheels match the fenders perfectly?

    Great Video! You have one of the most unique back story's on this truck. I'm subscribed. I also have a 1951 3100 that I'm putting on a 1994 S10 Chassis and using a 1984 Camaro drive train. Would be great if you stop by my channel and check out " s10 chassis swap". Thanks and have a great day!
