I feel like it will be a lot easier to change minds about puppets than food or even clothing. People have less attachment to how puppets are made. Of course some people will get upset if Big Bird gets a makeover, but the show addresses that through the dog character and the song It Still Looks Good. That's the brilliance of Kindness Town.

26:05 thyme has the most iron of any food period. Heme iron is preferred - because the body absorbs what it needs without short-circuiting the brain - according to dr barnard. I have my top 5 iron sources on my personal website. Most vegan foods that're high in iron are also high in vitamin c. You can also do white mulberries.

6:05 sometimes summer might last into january! It depends on the year, but october and even november can be hot - it's like you wait for summer to end - and it just doesn't. But it's unpredictable - and that's why you'll see californians freezing at relatively warm temperatures - caught off guard by the cold when they expect warmth.

I don't have kids but if I did I would make sure they grew up with the story The Emperor's New Clothes. It's a great example of how a majority of people can be mistaken.

28:53 afaik - neither nuts nor meat nor mushrooms are high in iron - a misconception that I feel leads to low iron in humans in the first place (from what I remember, there's a few exceptions - but even the 'exceptions' are meager).

I've been to new haven - it was funny - so parked up - that there was no space for a car and then a police car crashed into another car just trying to park. Good times. You're in connecticut? I'm from there - was born there. Hey - maybe that's why you're familiar? Even though uconn has a dairy space and equestrian activities are big, I do feel connecticut is extremely vegan for the rest of it - or at least it used to be (it's slid in recent years).

  • @extropiantranshuman

38:40 me too - while I'm fine with the 2nd hand - if it's the last of the transition - making the most of the last wearings, I don't believe 2nd hand leather is vegan - especially since if someone looks at it - it'll encourage buying leather. It only makes sense if no one's allowed to buy more - the the last wearings is fine to me - but it's not vegan. I don't believe in buying 2nd hand leather - since there's so many vegan options to thrift, but I'm not a vegan - because I do believe in freeganism - where if someone's going to throw out a leather jacket - then it's important to take it - to make use of it - so the cow didn't die in vain. That said - I do understand joey carbstrong's sentiments of just letting the cow be in peace and respecting them - so that's acceptable too - if it weren't for the idea that you still would need to buy something after that takes from a potentially living being - even if it's a plant! Plastic takes from animals long gone too at times. Look - I'm going to try to keep the leather jacket out of the trash can - so I can give it to someone who's thinking of buying real leather - so that they just don't have to. I'll keep it around, I might wear it if needed or use it - but in places where I don't show others - so I don't encourage that behavior. I feel there's certain behaviors that're better for animals than veganism, because no matter what you decide - it's not going to be a vegan choice - throwing it out makes the trash can, pickup person's job, and landfill not vegan, so I'm about what I call (my made up word) 'helpism' to help out the animals as best as possible. That means elevating their value - by not being treated like trash - but someone we hold dear. No one way is going to be perfect and ideal - I feel everyone's is right and wrong in their own way - but that's my stance. I'm going to preserve it as much as possible to keep other lives from dying and keeping the trash from being non-vegan than going the vegan route. I just don't believe veganism does enough for animals, so I feel like there's more out there to it - and that's my thoughts. Maybe we can even give the leather back to the animals in some way - like skin grafts for cows that're burn victims or something. I just think keeping the leather around allows for that - but that's me - right or wrong.

42:49 something else I've suggested to people is to give back the clothing to the manufacturers. Unfortunately donating it just puts one non-veganness on someone else - so I don't agree with earthling ed on his donating - because it's just a status play that is net neutral for moving veganism forward (you'd just give you non-vegan clothes to someone else and then yell at them about why they're not vegan - when you personally make them that way). So I feel your method's better than his - where you're carrying your non-vegan burden with you - instead of placing it on others.

27:56 I try to post on reddit - but the vegan debate thread put my account at -500 points by trolls who just wanted to talk me down just for the sake of it, because they did that to everyone - so it's near impossible to bring it up, because when you get downvotes like that - your posts don't go through anymore to bounce it back up.

16:19 I was going to say - there's a vegan online store I order at - called 'the vegetarian site' (I can't give the link lest youtube deletes my comment). It's in my fully vegan online stores database - if you'd like me to send that to you too. A lot of vegan companies are in connecticut - like lesser evil, etc. - if I am not buying from my own state to support it - I try to buy from connecticut if possible to support the veganism there. That's probably why you see pops ups there lol.

Regarding California Forever: they own the land, but local laws limit development. In November Solano County voters will get a chance to vote whether to allow the developers to proceed. California Forever is doing lots of outreach, and they have a good chance of winning. It won't be a vegan city of course, but it's planned to be walkable. Whether they win or not, California and probably the rest of the country needs more housing.
Edit: I totally get peoples' skepticism. If I were in Solano County I would have to take a long hard look before deciding how to vote. As it is, all I can do is watch and hope it goes well.

    • @extropiantranshuman

I don't believe the world needs more housing - plenty of vacant buildings - people just need to be realistic and avoid living in crowded, unaffordable places and go to where we fit in. Affordable housing just doesn't fix it - just wishful thinking with no bearing on reality. Say you get affordable housing - the prices of everything else would rise to compensate - and guess what? The area will still be unaffordable - so it's not going to be 'affordable' housing at all - it's a misnomer. A spoof.

35:15 see this is why I question what peta's actually doing investing in non-vegan companies - if it's just for profiting off carnism, because they just aren't really pushing veganism forward there. I say to leave the carnist companies fend for themselves and just work on growing veganism - to support those who're already vegan - bring people there, and to enact laws that limit carnist companies from going on the stock market instead of perpetuating their measly existence out of measly pity. I'm with nikki on this - that peta should put their mouth where their money is lol

45:11 I don't believe food is black and white just like clothes aren't. On one hand - if you thrift non-vegan items - you're relieving the consequences of someone else's carnist's responsibility - to face their own problems. Same with second-hand food! There's discount food stores - where if they don't sell non-vegan food - it goes into the trash. Now if you buy it - then you support that industry to not have to worry as much about overproducing animal products. But if someone buys food and couldn't finish it and you can tell them not to overbuy anymore and just eat the non-vegan food that one time - I don't see the issue in keeping that food from going into the trash as much - although it's still alleviating the consequences of their own burdens - it's about the animals in the end too.

41:24 there's no one universal method of applying veganism in reality as far as I'm aware - so that's why you'd get different answers from different people. Until a universal answer comes - we're all going to have our own answers that're all right and might be wrong at the same time! So who's someone else to tell you what your doing is or isn't vegan - when no one really knows for sure? I don't believe anyone should tell anyone else what to do for veganism - because no one has any real answers tbh.

30:48 while I like and support their idea in theory, it's poor implementation - I'd much rather them put their money into vegan stocks. It's a shame that all the money goes to non-vegan companies - simply to reward them the more they do wrong! I haven't heard any great out of it - and I feel this behavior is what's leading to less veganism - because people see vegan money going to 'helping' out bad behavior - that likely people form non-vegan companies just to get 'vegan correcting' money. It's blatantly fake veganism to me. I only invest in vegan only companies and encourage everyone else to do the same. Same with ETF's, especially the VEGN one - just because it says vegan, doesn't make it so - they invest in plenty of non-vegan companies unfortunately. I made a vegan only (and if it has non-vegan parts - I add a note) investment database for anyone who wants to check it out! If these entities just invested in vegan companies - I bet veganism would grow much quicker. But not just investing in veganism only - the demand has to be there too for the impact to happen! You can't just invest in a vegan company or transition a non-vegan one if no one supports it! That's the main issue in vegan investing!
